Re: How to export Art brushes as vector NOT bitmap?
Helle - My point is that Illustrator can do what you want and Xara cannot. So make the brush as you want it in Illustrator.
And I cannot tell you how many times I have had to rebuild my custom toolbar. I have been using Xara since 1996 and it has been at least two or three times a year. Or more depending on the number of updates.
I am going to move this topic to Dear Xara as a feature request. There will still be a link to the topic from this forum.
Re: How to export Art brushes as vector NOT bitmap?
ernie-f: Yes, that is precisely the problem. Which Xara would correct this...
gwpriester: Please tell me if there is an idea with your comment: "create the brush in Illustrator" ?

Hi, I recomend to copy the brushconstruct from Xara (only the brush) to Illy and then create the brush in Illy new.
In Illy You can then draw what You need.

Re: How to export Art brushes as vector NOT bitmap?
Hi Helle,
In example 1, the line with a small bend can be exploded and will still be vector.
But at right, with moderate curve a it makes a bitmap.
In example 2 I've tried starting with very simple straight shapes and it still won't convert to vector at right.
It seems the brush engine is quite finicky about what it will tolerate.

Re: How to export Art brushes as vector NOT bitmap?
MarcT: you are so right, I wish Xara would keep focus on vector functions and test it properly before releasing software
ernis-f: I was trying to avoid Illustrator, but it seems to be the only solution :-
Ps: btw nice drawings on both your website :-)

Re: How to export Art brushes as vector NOT bitmap?
The fact it's possible at all to convert art brushes into vector was quite a revelation to me, I previously always assumed they were bitmaps.
After some testing I ran into the same issue as everyone else, for example, heavily curved lines no longer convert vectors but become clipped bitmaps. I wonder if there's a maximum number of nodes before it decides to make it a bitmap?

Thank you Jono, this is a useful analysis.
Pity Xara is not around to chip in.

Jonopen: spot on....
(if any guys from Xara see this - PLEASE fix it)
