you really do need to do something about this, it could be dangerous
listening to dvorack's 9th on headphones whilst working I accidently clicked the top right X that closes the program and, not wanting to close I automatically clicked cancel, and was 'deafened' by the almight loud and shrill beep that serves no useful purpose [to the user anyway] which you get in pro+ when you do this; it made me jump; I knocked over my coffee; it is only by good luck i did not do any damage to work/equipment on my desk; my ears hurt
you have no call to be pushing loud audio through the computers audio channel like this, especially when it is of no use and is undocumented; one of these days someone will be taken completely by surprise and have an accident, and you have a duty of care

Hi HD, I don't think this is a Xara issue (if I understand you correctly) but a Windows update issue.
In Computer Active magazine this month the lead article was about wailing sounds from PC's.
It wouldn't be right to copy the whole article but this may give you a clue ....

thank's egg but I'm pretty sure that is the MS issue with 5.1 sound; I'm not using 5.1 just good old fashioned stereo
what I am not using is xara's auto-backup which may be a factor...
