I watched it and although I can see what is happening, it is not occurring with my v17.0.
I have the same behaviour in v16.3: the images are cropped, never stretched.
Perhaps you need a reset by choosing Run as administrator, just the once, to align any DLLs.

Try this. Hold down the Shift key when you drop the image onto the existing image. And be sure Lock Aspect Ratio (the little lock icon) is enabled.

Earned! The culprit - XaReg. I use XaReg to adjust the size of some elements. But I did not change any options associated with the proportions of the image. And there are no such settings. In any case, I reset the settings to default and the images are no longer distorted proportions.
