Crop Photo to a Specific Size
Hello,
I have many iphone photos that need to be cropped to 1024x768 for the client. It seems that my only option is to create a rectangle of that size, make it somewhat transparent, position the photo behind the image and when ready, select both rectangle and photo and click Ctrl-3 (Arrange - Combine Shapes - Intersect Shapes).
It works but it is very tedious. Is there a better way?
Thanks,
tom
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
if they are all the same size and you want to crop in the same place for each - use the align tool to align them all on top of each other, select them all and group - then do the intesect on the grroup, then ungroup
when I do this I copy the rectangle to clipboard then I can paste for each crop, saves having to make it every time
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
handrawn's method is a good way to go. You can also make a page 1024 x 764 and add a same size rectangle. Duplicate the page for as many photos as you need and drag and drop the photos onto the page. Hold down the Shift key when you drop the photo.
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
Hi Tom, welcome to TG. What size are the original photos?
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
Egg - The photos on my iPhone X are 4032 x 2024px
I see where you are going but I am not sure of the math. The reduction is close to 25% but not exactly. At least not at the default size of my images.
Ah, but at this size if you change the size in the Width of Selection box to 1024 and hit Enter, the photo does scale down to 768 Height.
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
You had me doubting my math there Gary. I think you mean 4032 x 3024?
25.39% does it.

Better still you can set up the import width in Options/View
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
Yes, my bad, 3024. Genius using the Import Large Photo setting.
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
Thanks everyone!
It would seem that my method may be the best. I was really hoping someone would say "Duh. Why wouldn't you do x?" As for applying math or a specific page, the crops are quite variable. The crop takes place at different places and at various magnifications (reductions, actually) of the original. Sometimes orientation is switched.

Not sure why you even thought that there may be a quick way to do that.
Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
That wasn't stated in your original post Tom ;)

that is why I said 'if' as the first word in my reply, knowing it was probably a big if... cropping out photo's is something I do as reference for drawing... and as Keith said there is no 'quick' way to do this if 'every one is different' that's just a fact of life
@EGG and GARY call me a pedant if you will, but since when has resizing been the same as cropping... or am I missing something... ?

c'est moi [or should that be: c'est je ]
When I was at school [quite a while ago] resizing was something you did with canvas and crop had something to do with horses... you just never know in this world.... :D

In that case I would create a bunch of rectangles to your final size. Then drag and drop the photos onto the rectangle (I think I already said this?). You can still resize as necessary with the Fill Tool or the Photo Tool smart resize.
I am not a pendent.

No one is.
What fun,

Re: Crop Photo to a Specific Size
If the images are in the right aspect ratio, you can use the Crop tool with the Lock aspect ticked and Current selected. Otherwise pick from ratios 3:2, 4:3 and 16:9.
Crop to the need. Then resize each to the first you sized as 1024px wide.
Artistic and mechanistic combined,
Acorn

oh I'm sure you've been seen to hang out in your time Gary ;)
Acorn on the other hand appears pedantic ...
I guess the crop tool on fixed aspect and ratio 4:3 sounds like it might do the job except I find the opaquing [is that a word?] of the image area outside the crop more of a nuisance than doing it with intersect - and still have to resize afterwards...
and another reason I don't use crop tool is it does not crop groups in toto [as in latin that is, not rock]
