Re: Animation in Xara
I think part of it is trying to learn how to use the Artweaver tool. I have to experiment with it more so I can learn how to draw with it :-)
I have not yet figured out how you draw something like the "waves" with the tool but all I have messed around with so far is the pencil tool and I have not found the right combination to draw crisp edges and make things blend together like your images do. I like the samples you passed along before but do not fully understand how you create them. I can see many uses for them, just need to better understand how to do it.
I think I am going to drag out th Official Guide book again but this time, take the time to go through it. I think that would probably open my eyes a lot.
Like I said once before, the "Drawing from the right side of the brain" book showed me a lot. I just have trouble capturing on paper or the screen what I see (or at least what I think I see).
BTW: On your tutorials, have you ever considered having a link that would put the tutorial in a format that could be printed easily? Since I am working on a 14" laptop without an external monitor, it becomes a chore to read, switch screens and do, then go back to the next step or see what I did wrong. Printing for reference would be a big help.

Re: Animation in Xara
How did we get from Xara animation to Artweaver???
-
Re: Animation in Xara
It was a tool Gary suggested for developing the Displacement Maps.

Re: Animation in Xara
Um, we went off-topic is how we got there, Frank, sorry.
David seems to have questions that not only relate specifically to the flag animation, but also to displacement. If you read back a few, I recommended that ArtWeaver can be fairly easily used to create a displacement map, as long as you have enough experience to anticipate what the map will do to a drawing.
Do the three question marks after your post mean you're impatient to get back on-topic?

Re: Animation in Xara
Ah, must have missed that, sorry.
However, rather than try some of the fairly advanced stuff you've been talking about, why not just get stuck in to creating a bunch of animations? So far what we've seen is works in progress or experiments. I'd love to see some completed work - not just from you of course, the floor is open to all comers, there's no such thing as a newbie here.
How about a challenge? Let's see a windmill turning in the moonlight! The animation can be any output format you like as long as it (and the majority of the components) was created in Xara.
I'm starting mine in 3 - 2 - 1 - ....

Re: Animation in Xara
Great challenge, Frank!
I wish I had time. I've got to get September Xara Xone put together.
Count me in if there's still an opening in a few days.
I love windmills! Here's a starter shape for anyone else up to this.
