Change Color of a part of the picture. How?
Hi
I really looking for a solution how can I change the color of a part of a picture.
In my case it's a pharmacy sign (see attachment). I want to change the color of the white Part (snake&scale) into a sort of brown (#bcb29d).
The green cross I want to change into red.
I only managed (not even that perfectly) with hue. But I cannot choose exactly the colors I want. I manage with the color/select tool to select the region I want to change but then
I don't know how to move on.
Please I'd appreciate any help.
Ernst

Redraw the symbol altogether. Then you can color it at will and can be resized without degradation for various purposes.

WD7 does not offer many options and Mike's suggest is best.
But attached is a simple if not as effective way to do this.

Ernst, here is a vector you can play with: Attachment 100284

Thank you all for your help. If I get it right, than I have to make this kind of color change in future with an another programm (e.g. Photoshop, gimp)? Unless I want to redraw my graphics.
Have a nice weekend.

The later versions of Xara let you select individual colors.
You could use this technique http://xaraxone.magix.net/PGD9/page%203.htm to mask the area then replace the color.
This is a very powerful tool.
Two steps. Select some of the green color with the Mask Painter Tool. Then Select the background color or colors with the Erase Tool. Press Erase Background.

Hi gwpriester
That's exactly what I was looking for :-) I have xara designer pro 9. I will try this on monday.
Thank you.

Great.
In the case of the white background, I added a + shape behind the caduceus part to add the color.

Despite my best, heartless, attempt at encouraging you to redraw so it is vector and can be recolored at will, did any of you notice that Acorn did and provided a vector file?

NO, not with the vector version. It's as easy as picking each shape and recoloring by picking a color in the color line or using the color mixer for your own color variations. In the case of Acorn's sample, you would also need to set the line color to the same color used for the scales/snake shape. But...see the attached...

And it is a great tut when one cannot easily redraw a vector version.
This icon is ripe for redrawing it as a vector. I have no idea why y'all are using the bitmap and jumping through the select/recolor bitmap hoop.
I cleaned up Acorn's great redraw. The snake/scales are a single vector shape now. All you have to do is pick a color for the cross, pick a color for the snake/scales. No bitmap hoop to jump through.
