I have imported an object in the shape of a tree. When I chose the repel option under your object nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

I have imported an object in the shape of a tree. When I chose the repel option under your object nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
1) are you sure the tree is in front of the text?
2) does the text itself have Repel Text Under applied? If so, remove it.
It will not work if it is a Text Line.
