I wanted to share this with you guys
Mike has been a long time friend.
He was best man at my wedding we went to art school together, painted together and worked together.
it was Mike that got me in the delineation business, he wanted to be a fine artist and I just wanted to be a delineator.
So I guess we both got what we wanted.
We called each other Hot Dog.

Re: I wanted to share this with you guys
Congratulations to Michael Young.
Larry thank you for posting this; it is a wonderful story about art and how it records (and maybe shapes) our understanding of history.
And also thank you for your description of your friendship - you didn't use many words but you painted a lasting picture with them.
What is the delineation business?
Re: I wanted to share this with you guys
That's pretty terrific Larry.
Re: I wanted to share this with you guys
Thank you both.
@Barbara, "What is the delineation business?" When I say that or delineator, I mean architectural delineation or if you prefer (architectural illustrator). Basically what I did was work closely with architects and draw a perspective of the design and when the drawing was approved I would do a full color painting, this was then given to the client so he could understand the architects proposal. It was a great selling tool, the client used those paintings in all sorts of ways, sometimes I would see them on a coffee cup, or large signs of what was being built, all sorts if ways not only was it a selling tool for the architect but also an advertising tool for the client. I used to go out of my way to show the site the building was setting on as accurately as I could.
Mike spoke of working for a shady company, what they did was buy paintings and reproduce them. He told me about one he was doing and couldn't match the green on the original so he changed the original and got a compliment on how well he matched the green. Funny huh.

Re: I wanted to share this with you guys
Larry, I never knew you did that.
I love architectural drawings. They are always so hopeful. A lot can happen between the drawings and the ribbon cutting. It is interesting when you can compare the illustrations with the finished buildings or settings.
Do you have any photos or copies of your work you could share? I'm sure everyone would love to see your work.
Re: I wanted to share this with you guys
Hi Larry, that's a great story and and wonderful painting by your buddy.
Thanks for taking the time to share this,
I also like architectural drawings, I didn't know they call them like this.
In French we would just say "perspectives"..

The first one was a magic marker rendering, the other two were done in gouache. Sometimes I would be asked to design a part such as the glass partition in the first marker one or a sign.
I remember designing a sign and the client took my painting and had the sign made as I had painted it.
Thought I'd include these aslo as a matter or interest

This was an oil painting triptych done for my sister

These two oil paintings, the portrait was a commission, the other was just because I wanted to.
Re: I wanted to share this with you guys
Those are quite amazing Larry!!
There must have been many hours of work in those gouache renderings, gorgeous!
I used to do renderings of commercial furniture and interiors in a previous work, a bit like your marker ones.
The paintings are great, I especially like the landscape.
