Has anyone ever used Ulead's Menu Applet and if so, could they help me achieve a thumbnail menu?

Thanks for your advice and, please forgive me as I'm obviously missing something but I still don't understand where my pictures come into it!
I tried placing a tiny jpg thumbnail, maybe at the wrong stage or place, but I got a message about wrong file format or something!
Where do I put my thumbnail pics (and big pics?)
I'm really sorry for sounding so dumb but I'm determined to get my web page to look similar to the example I quoted!
