since you have mentioned PDF errors, there is more...
if I export a PDF commercial printing option, I cannot open it again in XP&GD16; it does open in XDP15.1
X&DP 16 gives this error:

I have so far just shrugged my shoulders, what did I expect :banghead: - at least I can use the other version for this work
My v.16 pdfs reopen in my "Xara." ;))
I think I remember the white rectangles thing from a few versions back and thought it was taken care of...but maybe I'm mis-remembering.
thanks
can you try this one [ignore meaningless title :)]
if it does then it's my system I guess
Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 16.3.0.57723 DL x64 Oct 25 2019
I have done the run as admin....

Same version.
Doesn't like the indexed color space of the bitmap, does it?
That should be converted during import/opening. But it's not. I can get it to import, though. Just gotta know the secret handshake...

With your doc, I received the same {PNnV error with Xara Pro X v16.3, but it opened with v17.0. Copied the objects, pasted into a v16.3 document, commercial PDF export, document reopened in v16.3 as expected (attached). I have not had any problems with PDFs; I have no idea what {PNnV means either.
ok thanks again - to you both
so it's an issue - because in XDP15.1 it imports no problem - hey ho
However, now that V17.0 of PRO is out, the chances of a BUG fix for P&GD 16 are exactly ZERO. You will be told to upgrade ... or renew your "subscription".
hence the 'hey ho' ;)
well the 30 GBP I spent on this, yet again half baked release, is but a taxi fare in real life and I am saving on those right now big time, however it pushes me ever closer to affinity [@mike serif]...
Doesn't bother me. I'll upgrade.
Same happens with other software. That said, Quark will bug fix more critical bugs one version back. But something this may or may not end up in a patch in the previous version.
;))
Reality is that the Affinity applications are full of bugs and, when a new dot release comes out, it may/does have regressions. Recent point in fact, the initial 1.8 release when bugs were still being found right and left--and then a quick patch for those and, well, not so smooth either. Like it or not, Adobe applications are the most bug-less I use. For the most part. An exception is the latest release of ID CC. It was the worst in recent memory.
I blame the current status of buggy software on the release cycles that companies these days have gone to coupled with customer expectations.
But as you (often) say, hey ho. My typical saying is, it is what it is.
