1. Have you uploaded all the files associated with your navbar?. If your navbar has sub menus then there will be 2 javascript files. One named xaramenu.js and another bearing the same name as the set of graphics exported. There will be 2 graphics for each button upon your navbar along with an additional graphic.
2. Is the folder in which you saved your graphics and JavaScript file(s), at the same location relative to the web page upon your web server, as the folder in which you saved your graphics and JavaScript file(s) is to your web page on your local drive?
Assume you save your navbar (the graphic files and javascript file(s)) in the same location as where your web page is saved.
However when you uploaded your web page and all associated files, you decide to place the files for the navbar in a separate folder to your web page named graphics. The navbar will not be displayed when viewing the web page. This is because the script references inserted in the web page are looking for the javascript files in the same directory as the web page and not in the graphics directory.

I can see my navbar, and I have the files in order, I want to link one of the sub-menus to another page on my site. I upload the layout in webstyle, and edit the menu/url, but this is where Im confused. Is this the only place that I can make that link..? if so, then what is an example of a path that I put there so I can accomplish this. JD

Thanks for the great info.. Just to be sure I understand clearly, In your first paragraph, you mention 2 graphic files and one additional file.. this I take being one a mouse over file, one a seperate button file and then the main graphic itself... correct? Then, all of the files uploaded in the same folder such as index_files... so, if I have just a two page website, then what I would upload is my index.html
page2.html
index_files + xaramenu.js
-
forgot to add page2_files.. I guess what this does is retrieves the correct files for the correct page that you upload.. is this correct?

Thats correct. You will upload a) the graphic files exported by webstyle b) the javascript files exported by webstyle c) your 2 web pages which have code inserted referencing the location of the Javascript files

I also have a similar problem. If i view the webpage directly from the disk the menus etc work 100% but if I use the web address for the page it gives me syntax errors in the page, i have traced this to syntax errors in the javascript files.. can you help.

Hi can you direct me to an example. I will be suprised if the error is caused due to errors in the JavaScript files
Thank you

I have the same problem with my web site.

Audrey,
I have just experienced the same problem with my own site, as shown at the address you provided. After discussion with a colleague we concluded that for some reason (unknown) the navbar info was being read from my hard drive, which I still do not understand, but we cleared all the Temp Files on my harddrive and my Xara Script work first time.
Worth a try http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I am having the same problem. When you export the webpage, it puts a local path in the code that looks for the images and the .js file.
What do I do now that I have a client expecting updates and I cannot provide her with them.
Very Frustrated!!!
-
What I did was to re-upload all of the .js files (even though the date was not new).
It started working then

I am having issues using a WebStyle 4 template within a dreamweaver MX template (.dwt) file.
When I import the WebStyle template into dreamweaver everything looks great. However when I then save the file as a dreamweaver template the navbars no longer work.
I know this is a path issue, I just dont know how to fix it.
Can anyone help?
Thanx.
Joe.

I started a whole site for my son HERE, but I started with a website template that has multiple navbars and some highlighted text boxes.
I saved the whole project and published it without a hitch. Problem is I lost a navbar on the left side of the page when I did one little change. I overcame the missing navbar thing before, but it was the only navbar I inserted into an existing page. I saw a post about naming the .js to xaramenu1 etc, but I don't know if it's the problem. I saved everything, and the changes into the same folder within the site both times.
Really bummed out and I'm normally quite patient troubleshooting .
Update:
Don't really know what I did, but it shows up now, but it is on the top of my site when it dispays correctly in frontpage in the left column.
I uploaded every file that had to do with this program to get it to display on the page, but why would it show up in a different spot?

The following appears to be the code in question:-
<!--webbot CLIENTSIDE
bot="Ws4FpEx" MODULEID="'Default (Project)\PBSA_Company_off.xws'" PREVIEW="<img src='../../My Documents/My Web Graphics/PBSA_Company.gif?054E5CCE' editor='Webstyle4' border='0'>" startspan --><script src="xaramenu.js"></script><script Webstyle4 src="../../My Documents/My Web Graphics/pbsa_company.js"></script><noscript><img src="../../My Documents/My Web Graphics/PBSA_Company.gif?054E5CCE" editor="Webstyle4"></noscript><!--webbot
bot="Ws4FpEx" endspan i-checksum="60083" --></td>
You therefore need to ensure that the files on the web are in the correct directories:-
1. The Xaramenu.js file is in the Top Directory.
2. The PBSA_Company.gif?054E5CCE is in the Top Directory/Sub Directory/My Documents/My Web Graphics/
Has this helped?

I am new to this web site designing lark (and this site so forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place). I am using Dreamweaver and Webstyle 4. When I am creating a template the navbars created via the insert webstyle icon are displayed. However, when I come to create a new html page based on the template the nav bars are not displayed. Where am I going wrong?
-
1. open the web page in FrontPage.
2. click on the navbar and select to delete it.
3. Select insert\xara webstyle 4\navbars and menus
4. From the navbar selection page, click upon the saved radio button. select PBSA_Company_off from the saved templates files.
5. Edit the navbar if necessary then click on save.
6. Select the appropriate project folder for edited navbar template to be saved to. At present, you are saving the edited templates in the default(Project)
7. Select save Graphic. The location displayed for the files being saved will be the last location that the files were exported to. Click on the graphics folder button and navigate to the location of the images folder where all your other files associated with the web page are saved. At present you are saving the graphics to a completely separate location
8.Ensure the save in folder ( the left side of the save screen) is set to the location where your web page index.html is saved
9. Click on save to be directed to FrontPage.
10. Save the web page and upload the web page, the xaramenu.js file stored in the same folder as your web page, the images folder its contents to your web server
The key is to ensure that the files are being exported to the location you require.

HELP! I am a well meaning amateur apologies in advance for any dummy-like statements!!
I am using Webstyle 4 with Frontpage 2000. I am trying frames for the first time (and probably the last!). I have a 3 frame web page and am placing a webstyle navabar in the left contents frame.
I have inserted a navbar into my contents frame in Frontpage with no problems. Everything works fine in both preview modes, the target links open up in the "main" frame. However, on uploading to my server the nav bar links now open the link page in the whole window rather than the "main" frame as it did in preview mode.
Any suggestions as to what causes this and how to solve it?
Can anyone clarify if target frame in xara webstyle should be set to main, _main or something else?
All help much appreciated..
-
The target frame should be set to the name of the frame in which the linked pages should be retrieved.
Assume the frame in which you wish the pages to be retrieved in is named angel ( 1st random name that came to my head!)
Select to edit your navbar in webstyle and enter angel within the target fields for each button and sub menu. This will allow each button/menu to retrieve the page it is linked to in the frame named angel.
If you still having problems please include the url where it can be viewed
-
Thanks for the speedy reply Bb2!
My frames are set to contents, banner and main.
I have tried setting the target in xara to main, _main and leaving it blank it just keeps opening the pages to fill the full page and ignores the frames layout. I have tried a simpler menu with no sub menus without any luck.
Home is the only button workling as its target is the main frames page index.html.
www.waleswoodcricketclub.org.uk
It makes no sense to me!
-
i viewed the page in ie6 and the pages are being retrieved in the main frame and not in a new window
-
I didnt say it opened in a new frame...
The thing is only spose to open the new content page in the right hand frame (main) leaving the banner and contents frames the same. Instead it opens up like _parent or something just ignoring my xara target frame settings and I lose banner and contents frames completely.
Its doing my head in!
-
apologies! You are right
It seems that the page is working fine on everyones PC except mine!! Apart from the pictures in the header which i can esasily sort out.
Must be to do with my IE6 settings??

Hi...Is anyone on this site from support. Tried this questions two days ago and still no reply. Help will be appreciated.

I'm not from support. But where is your question.

Check out this other post, it explains why my nav bars didn't show up, and how I fixed it.
Look around the forum, this problem happens to a lot of new users. I had another post yesterday, discussing a new flavor and yet another fix for this problem.
Click on my name on the left and then look at all my posts, you will find some that fit your problem.

I think there is a problem with the "loc" variable used in Webstyle's code.
I've tried to link three different web albums from another Webstyle web page, and I find that Webstyle is using literal rather than relative file names, meaning that links only work in their original location.
-
I have been unable to get the photo album/web page created with WS4 to display properly when on a live web site. The background graphics, left column text and graphics, and text all appear correctly, but the navbar is missing, and the album images don't show up. All I get is the default image for one slot. It would appear that the section of the page code where the album is supposed to be doesn't contain a reference to the album that was created, or something like that.
Obviously I got the file directory structure correct or I wouldn't get the default image, and proper background images. I tried moving the index page to the graphics directory, and then everything was missing, so it would appear that the file references are in the right spot. The page is just not bringing up the album or the navbar for whatever reason, although it works fine on my local drive.
The page created does bring up two javascript object errors in IE6 and Netscape 7
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
<script ID="Webstyle_Template_Init">
xara_templatesetup(2, 8);
Location of error is at first character of "xara_templatesetup"
and the second error is:
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
<script ID="Webstyle_Album_Script">
xara_albumsetup("gbaaronr_files/Photos/", "gbaaronr", "gbaaronr_files/");
Location of error is at first character of "xara_albumsetup"
There has to be another explanation other than "wrong relative file location." I cannot proceed with creating any more web photo albums until this problem is solved obviously.
Javascript is enabled in my browser, and the page works in preview mode, just not when uploaded to the web server.
Thanks,
==Paul>

1. You should start your own new thread.
2. You should tell people where they can view your site and the page with the problem.
3. I don't have any answers for you sorry.

Regarding my previous post about the javascript object error. With a response telling me to blame my ISP from a conversation with Xara support (it took two weeks to get that), I was able to try an experiment because their comment gave me an idea.
I uploaded the same set of files to another web server running the same web server software. The same page that was broken on my web server worked on the alternate web server.
I checked the "content-type" listing on the server where my album was functioning for .js files. Document mapping was set to application/x-javascript
I checked the "content-type" listing on the server where my album was not functioning for .js files. It was set to wwwserver/shellcgi
I changed my server to application/x-javascript and restarted the web server service. The album immediately started functioning properly.
Just in case someone else runs into a similar error, I thought it was important to share my solution.
