Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Hi,
Xara DPX19.0.1.65946 - desktop version.
Is is just me or is Download All fron the Online Content Catalog no longer working.
I have tried the Download All in the recent past and again today. It doesn't work anymore. For testing, I used Tables. I have 17 in my Local Design Gallery, but there are 22. I tried Download All twice, to no avail.
Under Local Designs Gallery, I also tried More, Update now. Nothing.
Thanks,
-
Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
In my case it's working but yesterday there seemed to be a server problem.
To see if a download is proces, I click one of the categories, right-click and select download all. Then I select another category and now the text "...downloading" appears next to the Local Designs Gallery label.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
@Boy
Yes, "....downloading" normally appeared but no longer does.
Access to the OCC has been extraordinarily good today. I got in first time and every time, over a dozen times, but the download does not work.
A user on the Magix.info forum has complained today about not being able to get in and gets the timeout 502 error.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Elsewhere, it was reported Magix was having server issues.
If you used v19.0.0 and its Download All previously then it will still be all there in your local cache.
Separately but potentially affecting forthcoming Magix updates, Xara chose to remove Download All from XPro+.
I raised this with Xara quite a time back and the response was it wasn't on its Technical Road Map but it might be reconsidered.
This removal now forces you to pick one item at a time for new entries and updates.
(@John, five new tables, one at a time is workable but for XPro+, Xara recently added hundreds of Overlays)
It is a clear horlicks of a situation.
You may find you have to jump through hoops should be be a v20 as it will be considered to be a fresh install.
The other naff aspect is Xara imposes the download location of the cache to be under the /AppData/Local/ folder with no means of altering this.
Xara will states you can always use the Disc designs button.
What I find ironic is Xara's positional statements in https://www.xara.com/compare-plusplans/:
Quote:
User-inspired roadmap & product delivery
Beta features, feedback collection and feature requests available.
TGers should raise this with Xara directly: https://www.xara.com/contact-us/.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Hi Acorn,
Yes, I have done Download All several times over the last year, but it has not worked for me for a few months now. John E. Baker on the Magix.info forum noted that he managed to get a download of a missing item and " it took ages to download measured in single figure B/s."
I still have problems getting to the OCC, so I finally, just now, programmed CTRL+Alt+Shift+K to a button on my ShuttlePro.
I have imported a few of the missing tables, but how does one add these to the Local Designs Gallery?

John, I didn't realise that Magix had mangled the OCC service that much.
The simplest method would be to put your items into \ local folder and use Disc designs button to add this local folder to the Local Designs gallery.
When you do this a file and a folder are created.
The file is catindex.txt with a commented first line identifying its path.
The folder is xarinfo and is blank but should hold PNG thumbs of your XAR files.
To get these thumbs, you right-click on the blue folder and pick Generate thumbs > Standard sizes or what ever you need.
If you want to get the XARs into the correct Xara folder, you need to identify the path from the OCC.
You might then have to add to the current catindex.txt file, the detail you created earlier and cross-load in the PNGs to the existing xarinfo folder if Generate thumbs is not available.
I hope this covers the issues you may face.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Hi - I have Xara Web Designer Premium 19.0.0.64291 and have had to reinstall the program due to SSD failure...I had previously downloaded all the content to page & gallery layout but didn't realise the reinstall would overwrite the files in local user files...
Like everyone else I am unable to renew update (expired 27th July) and this website is a community project (neapoli-crete.com) and we cannot afford to subscribe on yearly basis at this time. I have now lost all the templates, photo frames, components etc. etc.
Is there any way of downloading the content from somewhere?
Many Thanks
Stewart

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
I think the best option is to ask Xara if they can help you, via the chat on xara.com

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Hi - messaged Xara and had good offer of subscription as non-profit site but need to see if I can get some funding for project...
I have done a search for catindex.txt and windows explorer found 398 files in total...I found the templates for my websites and the one I use is the non-profit one (see screenshot) and one is named OLD and this catindex :-
# @PREVIEW
# Folder Revision:58550
non-profit_about_page.xar, About Page, , P,,,,,,2049572856
non-profit_blank_page.xar, Blank Page, , P,,,,,,3768031280
non-profit_contact_page.xar, Contact Page, , P,,,,,,23930594
non-profit_gallery_page.xar, Gallery Page, , P,,,,,,1548940434
non-profit_index_page.xar, Index Page, , P,,,,,,339414610
non-profit_news_page.xar, News Page, , P,,,,,,3437109315
non-profit_teams_page.xar, Teams Page, , P,,,,,,428910800
non-profit_website.xar, Website, , P,,,,,,594592152
The template does not show up when I load the site or any other files I had downloaded before SSD failed?
Many Thanks

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Stewart, my catindex.txt is the same apart from the '# @PREVIEW' statement, which is probably saying Xara needs you to access the Online Content Catalogue.
You need to search for your Cache files, the path would be C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Xara\XtremeProSu b\Sub\Cache\designs\eng\websites\businesswebsites\ nonprofit\ to find the text file.
If you have the design files, they will be in the same folder.
if you had other version back to v17, you could look there as the design has not changed since March 2020.

Stewart, I'm interested in the link for 20 euros. Check if they provide a Magix serial number and only install from Magix when registering. If genuine, you should also be able to upgrade to v19.
Remember to Download All and additionally save to other media.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
20 eu sounds a bit low to me; maybe for the basic web designer, but not for the premium version, or designer pro....
-
Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Unable to find the text files as you suggested....just downloaded premium 15 Web designer (7 euros) but it is unable to download web content. My guess is that as Magix have now parted company with Xara that any new installs will have the same issues...just kicking myself for not copying all the downloaded content before my ssd failed...

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
as far as I can see the path acorn gave in post #10 is for pro+ not for the version you had
Quote:
\XtremeProSu b\Sub\
being program specific, you may need to look for a variant path that covers your old program

handrawn, all true.
I should have typed:
Quote:
C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Xara\(XDA)\19\Ca che\designs\eng\
or similar, where each users adds in their Windows logon name and the product type (of which there are so many). so you need to navigate to C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Xara\ to find your XDA folder name.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Morning
Still no luck finding the content....can find folders but there is nothing in them apart from a Xara preview image of one item. Download Buyer on Ebay has now informed me that they are in the process of removing Magix products because of the split between Magix & Xara - so no luck there then...

Stewart, thank you for the update. I have never understood Xara's need to put most of its functionality behind a paywall and then make things so flaky.
You could trawl TG and download its XAR and WEB files and painstakingly rebuild components from those used.
You could grad a couple od Xaratemplates.com free templates, images and components or even buy XBuilder.
A SPECULATION
I have always wondered what Xara could do if someone simply published all their assets into the Cloud.
The EULA has a Restrictions section that covers:
Quote:
1. The templates, graphics, textures, photos and fonts supplied with the Software cannot be redistributed, sold or published as an image collection or part of an image collection, specifically but not exclusively they cannot be included in template, clip-art, font, texture or photo collections whether on websites or distributed on electronic media such as CDs or disks, nor can they be included as part of another product, in any form whether commercial or otherwise. Notwithstanding the foregoing you may include the template, graphic, photo or font as part of your project which may be used for your own or your customer's purposes, subject to Clause 3 below.
If one has to download the Components, they are not part of the 'Software'. Equally, one could set up a project for a customer where you supply its components. I would argue that any MagiXara customer should expect reasonable access to templates or components as the use of the 'Software' is perpetual.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
you know, I don't see in the EULA anything that prohibits a user with a valid license supplying another user with a valid license any of this asset; the question is would this be 'redistribution' in the legal sense...

+1
For all my licensed Xara products I now have 304k objects taking up 25.8GB, all in my AppData folder. Double that for a second machine.
I find that for Xara to force this into my speedy C:\ SSD is a very precarious and fragile and unwanted location.
I would appreciate any Xara assistance, or any expert, to advise us on the creation of Directory Junction so I could park these objects on a slower and bigger data drive (actually, mine is still SSD) but the point is I don't need 'instant' access to these just have them exist. Ideally, I would want a NAS or Cloud storage. I have never done this as I do not know how Xara manages updates and downloads from the OCC or or mechanisms it might use. Too much to lose.
The OCC might be better implemented if only is didn't die when a licence expired.
More components should be part of the software build into C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara Designer Pro+\basefiles.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Thanks for all the info and I totally agree with having these components available as downloads
From repository. When I purchased the wb designer it was never my plan to subscribe to monthly payments! My objective was to find a programme I could continue to use for all projects and it does seem very petty that having purchased this software and not being able to access these components due my failure to download them while the "lincence"was valid and before my ssd failed...a very frustrating situation....

Is this the site we are talking about: https://www.neapoli-crete.com/index.htm? It looks like your site started life as a Not-for-Profit template but moved on significantly from that template with the addition of a mobile variant and new page formats. Other than the colour theme and some minor elements, you could, if you had to, start from scratch. The NfP template (with a modified Navbar to show a submenu as per your current site) is here:
Attachment 133986
Other than being a time-consuming exercise you could likely rebuild / reverse engineer your published site via access to the source code objects. Did your reinstall overwrite the backups in App Data/Local /Xara/ XtremePro/19/Backups?
In terms of other components, your site has a couple of Accordion sliders, but they can be replicated too.
Not a help to you right now, but I save all my design files and the Designs cache to OneDrive.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Hello Initiostar, Thanks for the advice and link to NFP file...
The NFP template that came with the web site designer v19 I purchased already had the mobile variant configured - that was one big reason I chose to use this website template as the basis for the site. The xar file you kindly linked to does not include the mobile variant. There were other website templates that I also downloaded in case other people wanted designs making - although TBH as a novice user this site took me a lot longer than I thought! It is just so frustrating that I am unable to gain access to these components that were downloaded and included in my purchase from Xara via Magix...I have all these listed but there is no content and as you suggested using a backup file I had hoped that these dependencies would have installed when I opened the backup - but no such luck! I have tried to attached screenshots of the trees but only to upload the one?

[1] Relatively easy to provide you with a updated template that has a mobile variant if that helps?
[2] Do you have digital access to the original photos and videos? If not, and assuming you have FTP access to your site, you can download the folder "index_htm_files". This will have the photos and videos on your site - you would need to give them meaning names, but they should all be there.
[3] The site is working right now, so you have time to reconstruct it in the background if you need to; you have a Facebook page you can use to supplement the current website content.
I agree it is disappointing to lose access to the online catalogue, but there is not much on your site that cannot be reconstructed without it; there are alternatives where necessary too.
The challenge is that all this is time-intensive.

Re: Xara DPX19 cannot Download All or anything into Local Design Gallery
Hello -
The site is all okay when I load the pages, including the mobile variant...my bugbear is losing all the other components that I had downloaded
and to be able to use these as and when I wanted them...As you say the site is up and running and I will have to continue with what I have and see how it goes...
