Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
The entire site I have is now done, target pages tested, the slider issue solved (thanks, T!) and thanks all for the assistance and great advise on this forum. Never would have been able to finish it.
But here is something that may need a ticket.
Off and on I have had an issue where in Opera, the mobile Home page (landing page) will not display when the browser is minimized, but will display all other mobile pages in the root (about, staff, issue, articles, contact) without an issue. The home (landing page) Mobile displays the "Tablet" variant.
Tested the last .xar build today in Chrome and Firefox, mobile Home (landing page) displays as expected as well as tested links and test pages.
Tried the same new build of the Home (landing page) in Opera, after clearing browser cache, checking the mobile Home page (landing page) for hang over assets off the borders, outside the canvas, and so on. Nothing seen.
The Opera browser displayed the same Home (landing page) issue, showing "Tablet" variant instead of the Mobile variant. All other root pages displayed as expected.
Any ideas what it would be? 2 out of 3, but sometimes it is 3 of 3, as the Opera mobile Home variant will display as normal in previous builds, then not on the next one. Hmmm.
Here are screencaps.

Is Opera even supported anymore? I have not heard much lately. Also what phone or tablet?

I am using the 'drag the index page' method into an open browser after I have exported the target pages of my website to my hard drive.
Then I minimize and maximize the browser to check Mobile, Tablet and Browser versions by sliding it back and forth.
I am not opening the files on any other devices than my PC, at the moment.
I liked the Browser check utility that was in previous Xara versions (before 18) where you could pick a browser to test your website in, and the variants using the same method, but I now just have Chrome and Firefox installed on my system as well.
IE vulnerability issues caused this utility to be discarded for XWD v18, if I read right.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
Not sure what the reason was for discontinuing the installed browsers option. But you can test a page or site with the included Xara.Hosting publish then try it in real time on a mobile device. You can delete the test site when you are done.

I'll check into this. Thanks.
New info...
Good grief! I have a year Website M coupon free for a year to Dec 2022 for Magix hosting since I purchased the Premium 18 version.
Tops for the tip! No FTP needed. I'll test there. :)

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
imo that is what it is there for - it's not much good for anything else these days as it does not support https [unless you host a personal site with no financial/security implications and don't care too much about ratings]

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
@Steve - My jaw is on the floor. I had no idea Chrome had that much market share and Firefox and Edge so little.
I removed Chrome from my system a long time ago.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
firefox is no longer flavour of the month with me since they introduced the proton UI; the default tabbing is now naff and not well suited to lots of tab open at once.. had to delve in CSS to fix it to my liking; but I need to stick with FFox because my security software only sandboxes three browsers : edge, chrome, firefox... :(

Here is the Edge mobile variant test.
Like Opera, it is displaying the 'Tablet" variant and not the mobile home landing page.
About Us, Staff, Issue, Articles, World and Contact will all display as expected in the same root document pages (they all display these mobile pages).
These change as I said if check for items outside the mobile variant canvas, reset assets inside if they look too close to the canvas edge, etc. I cannot find a reason why Opera would show, then not show the mobile variant home landing page.
Ticket needed? Any ideas?

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
OK, because of a previous post I did a 'mouse over-make visible-" click on the page and layer gallery and this came up. It is on the variant home landing page.
Could this be the issue?
One is a record document made by the previous builder (link to file log.xara Change. Remove.) for record keeping, the 2nd is a text Heading info. I doubt the log.xara has anything to do with the issue as the About Us page has the same item and the mobile page displays normally. However, these are not visible until the "mouse over" make visible is clicked.
Can the Heading info be the culprit, or not?

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
have you got your test site up and running on your xara hosting yet ? a link to that would make things a whole lot easier to determine

I am going to put the root index set of pages only. The articles have all tested and look good on all variants in browser checks. They are pretty much identical in format.
I want to find the reason for this issue. I noted a few others in past posts have had a version of this same issue, one with assets on the pasteboard, and a few undetermined.
I will post when I get it up. I'll also reduce the index pages to the Home landing page and post the .xar here for review.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
I thought you were having lots of xar files? are you going to post them all up?
I'm not a website builder - I used to dabble back in the days of notebook and cute HTML but never really took to it; I can do a given theme wordpress if the CSS is kept to the absolute minimum
but time and time again the web guys here ask for the xar file[s] and or a live site because you cannot fix properly what you have not been given to examine first hand
an I know from what i do that no matter how well you prepare, it isn't until the dress rehersal that the obvious becomes obvious....

No, I'm just publishing the front root set of pages for the index (Home, About Us, Staff, Articles, Issue, World, Contact) since the home page is the one I am having the mobile variant/tablet variant issue with.
All the other pages have tested well and no issues were seen on any of them.
For the .xar, I was going to reduce the front root to just one page, the Home or landing page, since maybe someone can see something I am not. There is something there on that variant I can not see.
Maybe in the code script.
I even reduced the Mobile variant size to keep it small.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
So, I am here at Xara Online signed up for my 1 year free hosting. I'm a little unexperienced in this here, so can someone tell me if I can, instead of creating a new subdomain name, just use this web address to test publish too?
I am not going to create a new Magix domain for this here, I have Bluehost waiting.
Not much quick help file info here for this thing.
Certainly GWPriester could answer this one.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
Here is the Opera view again after another rebuild and export to local.
Home (landing page) displays properly, clicking in and out to the other pages and the mobile Home remains.
The 2nd image is the Edge recheck with browser sliding. The mobile Home (landing) displays properly.
Neither Opera or Edge displayed the mobile Home the last round. Now here it is.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
The root Home pages (Home, About, Staff, Articles, Issue, Contact) are now up on....
http://dzuwr5.xara.hosting
THERE IS NO ARTICLES SUBFOLDER ON THIS SITE AS OF YET. I AM TESTING THE TROUBLE HOME LANDING PAGE ONLY.
Please click around the Menu links if you like to test back and forth. Issue reporting is appreciated.
Thank you. On my laptop and Android mobile phone, the site looks good. Tablet on rotation RCA Viking 10.1 inch Tablet good. On landscape shows Main variant, on rotate to portrait shows Tablet version. Very good. All is working.
I will admit Acorn knew his stuff. I did redesign the Home page a bit, but all looks good.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
NOTE:
Looking at the mobile version on the Android phone I discovered a text box that appeared to be protruding across the edge of the mobile Home (landing page) variant canvas.
It appears the issue was solved.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
Hi Arch,
Looking good. Just some observations re the Desktop site:
I'd suggest your home page needs to load fast. At present it's full of image links to Articles. This should be the focus of the Articles page, not the Home page IMHO. There are 187 html requests to your server.
Your About page text has been converted to an image, so not available to SEO. Probably accidentally grouped.
Just commentating on the Articles page:
Your images are of a poor quality especially when resized via scale to Fit to Width publish option.
There are a great number of images to load, nearly 100. Try creating one image from numerous images thus reducing the html requests to your server.
Use image names! Combining images makes this less of a task and easier to search for within a browser as well as avoiding Xara creating new image names on each publish update.
Create rectangles with 99% transparency above parts of the image to act as links. Better still if you make these links a named colour 'link' , then you can select them all within the Name gallery.
The long page titles are fairly useless as with several tabs open I only see 'What can you' on the Articles page title tab.
Don't use lines, use rectangles instead. Xara's lines are exported as images.

Re: Mobile Home Page not displaying in Opera, but Chrome and Firefox Yes?
Here's a .xar of my combined image site:
EDIT: Can't attach xar file as it keeps retaining the publish settings

Thanks, Egg for the critique.
I was noticing the load times as well and I'll take a look here with these notices for the next .xar correction.
It's a tough shot with the image laden reference headlines. It's just the way I had to present the landing page with as much punch as possible.
Lines converted to images? I had no idea. I thought it treated it like a text object.
I was aware of the Articles pages reference images. I'll see about replacing the photos with slightly larger weight for a better result for Desktop.
Safari (Iphone, I am looking at getting an IPad with Safari now perm for testing, loan one for this here) looks good on landing page, and all else looks and loads reasonably. I'm pretty happy.

Re your page speed tests. Here's one from Pingdom of your current INDEX page. I wouldn't go a great deal on the Performance Grade, I prefer Lighthouse for this but the Page size, Load time and Requests are relevant.
Also your current articles page details and finally my reduced image site at HERE

I was not aware of this tool, Egg. Thanks for enlightening me on this....
I read a load time of not more than 2 seconds is optimal for a website via Google recommendation for what is called 'website acceptability'.
1.52 seconds not bad and still under threshold.
Fortunately, the most photo laden image pages is the Landing Home and Articles page, which I thought of as a previsioned need when I cut some articles down to Part 1/Part 2 pages. Most of the articles have not more than 4 (some 5) optimized photos, which will help with those load times.

Attention!
The test site on http://dzuwr5.xara.hosting has been deleted from the Magix online server.
Thanks all for checking it out and giving feedback.
