Font size after upload
Hi everyone.
Can anyone tell me if there are any bugs in regards to publishing websites where the text shows differently when published, but is showing as fine when viewed in web designer premium, and the test browsers published locally on the PC.
Tried a number of browsers but no change, and had to upload a temporary old website for now that seems OK.
What ever I tried made no difference, tried wiping server and reinstalling website, uploaded another website but that also became corrupted.
Asking just before reinstalling the program.

Re: Font size after upload
Could you post your .web file (or a part thereof) for the folks here to see what's happening?

Re: Font size after upload
Thanks for the idea, I just added the index file to the attachments, only the one page just in case the whole file is a bit big.
I also reinstalled the program, but no change.
Hope it helps.

Re: Font size after upload
I guess the site that's online (https://onlinetherapyservice.com/) is the old one, right? Do you have a link to the new site you're working on, so there's something to compare with when publishing your .web file locally?

Re: Font size after upload
The site up now is the old site, it works, main one just looks very bad so I had to take it down.
I included an image of what the site looks like when I try to upload it
Thinking maybe best to start all over again, just in case the files corrupt?
-
Re: Font size after upload
Clearly something is off there. Somehow the font got exchanged with another. Starting all over seems a bit premature. Hopefully some of the web experts here at TG will chime in, even though it's weekend.

Re: Font size after upload
Thank you for taking the time to have a look, it is appreciated.
I still have hope :D

I published your test file to my server and it looked OK.

When you uploaded the new file did you clear the cache on your browser?
Whatever the issue is, I doubt it requires starting over again; it might be a server-side issue, but I cannot tell from here.

Re: Font size after upload
Thanks for looking at the file, I did refresh and used 3 different browsers, the temp site I have up now seems to work OK, but if I upload that index file it goes all screwy.
Could it be server? I have no real understanding of how it could be affected by the server settings, no experience on that.
The other site I put up seems to work okay, so that tells me logically it must be the file, or the issues would be there if it was just the server, maybe?

Did you do a Hard Refresh. Ctrl + F5 ?

Re: Font size after upload
I think it is fixed, used a back up to reinstall the server to an earlier date before the problem started, then re-uploaded the website and it looks OK. don't know what that fixed? But not complaining :D

Re: Font size after upload
When I test published your test XAR, it had the file name 'index' which correctly previewed and correctly published on my server.
Is the test XAR the same index page (and filename index) on your new site? Does your new site preview correctly? If yes to both questions, export your new site to a new local folder and try republishing to your server again. Let us know the outcome.
Gary
Good news that you sorted it out =D>

Re: Font size after upload
Now not so sure now about it being fixed? Did I speak to soon, :) the mobile pages are not looking good, the fonts are not correct and the spacing is a bit all over the place, but I need to test on another device to be sure.
I think I need to recheck my stuff before celebrating any further, need to go to the shop get more coffee so my eyes keep working

Re: Font size after upload
Well the website is up, but has issues, you can see for yourself that some of the H1 headings are missing on the none mobile pages, I can fix that by reverting from H1+ to H1 and it shows on the main site, just seen that I need to adjust some of the pages for length due to me messing about trying to fix things before.
The mobile pages still look bad, not sure why it looks good in the program but very bad on the phone?
This planed update has been a nightmare, still there is always coffee =D>

Re: Font size after upload
UPDATE
Not looking good, things are messing up on the website, have to do some work for a while so can't do more right now.
May need to rethink and restart

Re: Font size after upload
I can see the issue is with the mobile variant (from my phone) and not the desktop version (at least that's what I'm seeing).
If you are still stuck this afternoon post a new test XAR (index page and second page) and I'll take a look for you.

Thank you for taking a look, I removed all but two pages, the main index and the Anxiety page before adding the attachment.
I can add more pages if that helps.

Re: Font size after upload
Ore, when i try to Preview website I get a complaing set of pop-ups around the Segoe font. "@font-face {font-family: 'Segoe UI Semibold';font-weight:600;font-style:normal;src: url("XaraWDGeneratedHTMLfont5.woff") format("woff"), url("XaraWDEmbeddedHTMLfont5.eot?") format("embedded-opentype"), local('Segoe UI Semibold'), local('SegoeUISemibold');}"
when i check where it is used, it has not hits at all.
I do not, however, think this is the problem.
It will be caching on the server.
I always end up asking if you have Cloudflare?
If so, there is a Dev mode that purges the server cache.
Service Providers may offer similar so you need to check with them how to purge.
I suggest you publish you design to a fresh (sub-folder0 location and check that it is all OK.
If so, it is definitely server caching.

Re: Font size after upload
OK I've uploaded your test doc to my server and it works on the desktop and mobile (for the pages you included) https://initiostar.co.uk/demo/ztest/
I re-looked at what you have on your server (assuming it started life with the same doc as you sent me) https://onlinetherapyservice.com/ - your new doc would appear not to be correctly overwriting the previous version.
The problem could be the Xara upload process has gone AWOL or you are not uploading to the target directory. For starters, I would export the doc to a new local folder; from there use an FTP programme of your choice and directly upload your doc to your server, test on both desktop and mobile. Alternatively, you could try saving the doc under a different name, exporting it to new local folder and try publishing it in the usual way.
A side-issue, unrelated, on the index page you have 3 rectangles on the Pasteboard - I reset this to 1 and moved your top-of-page link (it was sitting underneath the menu on my screen).
@Acorn - very good point about Cloudflare

Re: Font size after upload
Thank you for the ideas, and checking the site, indeed your test sever shows up on my phone fine.
Yes I do have Cloudflare and I will try what you said, may take a little while as I have more work to do, but I will get to it asap
Thanks again for taking the time.

Re: Font size after upload
Hi Ore. I have had the same problem and am following the post to hear from the experts. The problem usually shows up if I have a non web safe font. I checked and your font seems to be websafe verdana. From what I have found it has to do with cache in the browser. Refresh won't help, I go to settings in the browser, privacy and security and clear the cache. The browser I use most is edge, and since I view the site with it so much, clearing doesn't seem to work so well, takes a day or two and it clears up. I don't use firefox or chrome much, so usually if I view it on them, and they view correctly, and I know it is ok. (If not usually clearing the cache on those browsers works.) The first time it happened to me I went through extreme measures like you, even to the extent of using the host file manager to delete all the files and repost it from scratch - which I believe worked at the time. It has been mentioned that the files are not being overwritten, have you tried unchecking the fast publish box when you publish? I know the cache in the browser is an issue, experts have posted cache from the host server can be an issue, and I have had instances where my internet service provider (not the host) also had caching that had to resolve. For me in general, it happens more if I republish the site a short time after I last published it. I don't get too excited anymore if I can get it to render correctly in a different browser, or call up a friend or relative and see if it views correctly for them. Usually straightens out in about a day on my browser.

Re: Font size after upload
Thanks for your insights, I have stopped the fast upload option, and I will take into account what has been your experience with the web browsers,

Re: Font size after upload
Sorry it’s been a while longer than I had hoped, work and life stuff to take care of.
I tried the suggestions that you kindly offered.
Tried renaming the file and saving to a new folder on the PC, before publishing, no change noticed.
I uploaded the site to another server with FTP via Filezilla
http://www.onlinetherapywebsite.com.gridhosted.co.uk/ still up for viewing, not bad.
Tried saving to a new folder https://onlinetherapyservice.com/test/ It looks good to me?
Used FTP to upload files to Onlinetherapyservice.com main area, but saw no improvement.
Can’t seem to get rid of the unwanted fonts, will that make it less complicated?
Segoe UI Black
Segoe UI Black
Segoe UI Semibold : 20 kb
Segoe UI Bold Italic : 136 kb
Segoe UI Bold : 249 kb
I have tried before but can find them to remove them?
May need some more coffee :)
Could there be something wrong with my main server? I could revert back to a much earlier backup so resetting the server?
Thanks again for your patience and suggestions.

Re: Font size after upload
There maybe a better way, but you can go to each page and select the names gallery. It will show each font on the page. If you click on the circle by the font it will select it. If the font is on a locked or hidden layer, it can't select it and will alert you.

Re: Font size after upload
I did try and see something I missed, but so far I can't see it.

Track back to post 19 @Acorn - the fonts are not the main issue - your site previews OK - I would start by clearing the Cloudflare cache on your server - contact your host provider if necessary for help.

Re: Font size after upload
I reset the server, uploaded the website, set the cloudflair case to developer, mode and the main site is looking okay, improved.
Refreshed phone and Mobile was much looking better, still some text colour issues, refreshed mobile once again, and all over the place, fonts to large etc, same as before?
Tested on Chrome and Firefox confirmed it look trash, then tested on Microsoft edge (all on android phone), and it look very good, hardly any issues, at this point I need a good WTF!!!! just to ease the mind :)
Will phone about and check on some other phones see if it changes.
I may have to move from coffee to Valium if this keep up :)
Ill give it a few hours to settle down, do idea if that's a thing but lets give it a go.

Re: Font size after upload
I think it's sorted - https://onlinetherapyservice.com
Clear the browser history on your phone - works on mine. I'd make the top-of-page button sticky not stick-at-top (it's bouncing on my phone) and may be move it down the page a bit.
You can find the errant fonts at your leisure.
-
Re: Font size after upload
Well, I have to admit this was a bit of a strange one, it seems to be working OK at last.
Can't really say why it happened? But next time I will do what I did here and everything will be happy and bright, why would it not
Been quite a while since I did any server stuff and actual web building, normally its just a bit of updating, time to finish my new build some time soon, now its rest and relax with a nice frothy coffee and a biscuit.
Thanks for everyone's input it did help a lot, and it is appreciated. =D>

Thanks for the feedback, I have now adjusted the top navbar and made it sticky, still can't find them naughty fonts though
