Angle of Rotation - Problem?
Well, I say 'problem' but, this is probably a new feature much desired by the experts.
But, not by me!
So, I'm hoping there's a fix or a registry tweak to turn it OFF.
What am I talking about?
If I draw an object, then rotate it, say 45 degree. All is well so far.
When I select the object again, the 'Angle of Rotation' window shows the angle the object was rotated by (45 degrees).
I don't want Xara to do that. I want it to show 0 degrees.
XDP11 didn't do it, or any other versions before that.
I may not have rotated the object an exact amount. I may have rotated it by hand a certain amount.
And now I want to rotate it just a little bit more. When I select the object, there is now the previous rotated value and it might be 48.93.
Now, to rotate it just a bit more, say .18 - I now need to add the .18 to 48.93 and enter that new value.
I may and quite often do need to keep adding bit by bit, until I get the rotation correct.
PLEASE, someone tell me that this can be turned back to the way XDP11 worked.
In the attached picture, I've rotated the square 45 degrees. De-selected it and re-selected it again. And you can see that the Angle of Rotation window shows 45 degree. I would like it to show 0 degrees.
Hope that made sense and thanks for reading all the post, if you did!
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
@Rik, it has already been asked for!
You can increment with a # but I don't like this either: #0.18.
There are lots of other problems around multiple selections and groupings.

Well, if it's been asked for, then I shall not hold my breath.
And I've also not been impressed with the fact that if I marquee select a number of objects, and enter a rotation value, the objects rotate about their own axis, rather than a whole.
I have to group them first.
But, I think you mention this in your comments.
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
from my point of view having an option to rotate a selection of objects each about their own axis is a really good thing that has been requested for a long time and an upgrade tempter
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
looking at it i think maybe they only rotate around their own axis first time whilst they sync

Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
Now for myself, I like the way the angle stays. So many times I have rotated something and then when I need to change it again it was back at zero it was very hard to figure what I needed to move because the baseline had been reset. This is more like the way CAD software works and I am more familiar with it.

Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
So, you've for 3 objects.
You select them all and enter a value of 45 degrees.
1 object isn't quite right and you select just that one and rotate it another 5 degrees.
Now you select all 3 again and want to rotate them another 20 degrees.
However, all you get is a value that says 'Many'.
Doesn't seem useful to me?
But, and I say this with the greatest of respect, I am not a super user like some who work with CAD and Illustrator and other products.
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
How is having a value of "MANY" any more awkward than having a value of "0" ... To my mind they both pose exactly the same problem.
I like the idea of seeing exactly how everything has been rotated. It's much more useful to me, but I'm FAR FAR away from a super user too, so it may have drawbacks I can't see.
+1 for the idea of fixing centres of rotation per object.
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
I wish I could make a video to show the problems with this.
But, you love it, and that's OK with me.
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
So without there being a Reset Rotation Angle to Zero function with this new release, you are stuck with its creation angle being fixed.
This may be OK for QuickShapes but not for Editable Shapes.
The only workaround I have found is to copy the Editable Shape into an earlier Xara Desktop application, make your rotation to set up the required Zero angle and copy & paste back into v16.3!

Yes, it's another decision made without consultation, on this users forum at least.
I thought perhaps they may have hidden some 'right-click' options as with lock aspect ratio, but alas no. I did find some options, but I presume they are required only on a need to know basis!

Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
dos'nt look good then... I can save my money once again.....
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
I have a solution.
Use Text Inside to add a Auto-fit to container letter; I used W.
Make the letter invisible.
Note the Rotation Angle is now Zero.
Now use Text inside > Select shape.
Rotate the shape by any angle.
The Text Area remains at Zero and so the angle is anchored by the letter.
Rotate the Text Area by any degree and it is reflected in the Angle of selection box.
I call this the Hidden W-Anchor Parody.

Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
Personally, if i move the axis of origin, I'd like it to stay there. far too often I'll accidentally select something else and my axis resets to the center...is there a way to keep the axis of an object after it's deselected and other objects rotated?
Maybe this should be a new thread. I hope I'm just doing something wrong, tbh, and a guru can let me know how to achieve this.
Re: Angle of Rotation - Problem?
You can try mapping it to a grid, so you know where to go back to... but anchor it, no
