Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
We’ve just released an update to Xara Designer Pro X. We’ve added support for some more advanced Open Type features and continued to improve tables, and we hope you’ll also find some great creative uses for some of the new SmartShapes and Layouts. You can find a summary of these and other new features on our website @ https://www.xara.com/designer-pro/whats-new/ and full details in the Release Notes @ http://releasenotes.xara.hosting/designer-pro-x16/
If you have an active Update Service and you’re running v16.0 then you should shortly see 16.1 offered as an auto-update. If you’re still on v15 then you will need to re-download Designer Pro from http://www.xara.com/designer-pro/download/.
If your Update Service has expired then you can renew your Update Service / upgrade in order to get this and other updates since your version (go to the Designer Pro page on magix.com and click Upgrade). Fyi in addition to the Open Type and table support mentioned above, in the last year we’ve also added text flow inside shapes (all 3 were top requests in the last TG poll), plus there have been some things that you didn’t request but we hope you’ll discover their great value - such as the ‘get color from photo’ feature, auto-fitting text and auto-resizing documents. To recap on what’s new, or if you think you’ve missed some of the releases, you can find a summary for v16 on the What’s New page mentioned above, or older updates @ https://www.xara.com/designer-pro/whats-new/older/. We’ve also got a demo of some of the 16.0 features at http://previews.xara.hosting/ColorPalette/
And a quick note on Xara Cloud: We were proud to officially launch the product in 2018, release numerous updates (more than one product / content release a month), and grow the customer base. We have been pleasantly surprised about the use cases and overall usage of Xara Cloud by Xara Desktop customers. People are finding ways to be more productive, opportunities to work with their clients not possible before, and enjoying the combined flexibility of an offline/online solution. We don’t announce updates here but you can follow progress on https://docs.xara.com/latest-updates.
For both desktop and cloud the Xara team has defined another ambitious product roadmap for 2019. If we deliver even half of it, then it is going to be a good year for both. As many of you know, Xara has always been a hidden gem, so we plan to be more aggressive with spreading the Xara message in the market. We look forward to your continued positive support.

Only had a ½ hr. for a quick glance... a main interest of mine is tables... and all I have to say about that
since the initial release of the table feature is WOW!!! Terrific fixes!!! Works like a charm!!! (so far) ;))
Thanks for the fixes and improvements... For me, this is 'one' of the major features I needed
to use with Xara...
Cliff
oh, and at quick glance... the new 'label' & 'measurement' lines look great and... promising...

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
Great to hear you like the table improvements Cliff, and we're continuing to work on them for future updates. We've had lots of good feedback on them here in TG, so thanks everyone for that.
Yes, the new Smart Labeled Lines are quite, well, smart and we hope people will find them valuable. Edit the text in the lines and the lines retain their overall length, unless the text is a number in which case the line will actually adjust to that length. More on the lines in the Release Notes @ http://releasenotes.xara.hosting/des...Anchor:58egNpq

Also loving the 'WORD' export... it's perfect!
Here's a form I did for a company (their design) and here's the 'WORD' file... PERFECT!

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
The table enhancements alone make this a must have update. They fixed pretty much every table issue I encountered in version 16. Today is a good day to be a Xara user.

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
hey Xara guys,
The Labeled Lines will safe so much time for me, thx a lot !!!
i'm nearly crying for happiness.
***
only a few things.
if you stretch the Labeld Lines by an error with the normal tool, the
distance is wrong, which may can be easily overseen.
see 1
there is nearly no magnetic snapping to other objects while adjusting the length.
would be great to ha have rounded number in the units.
i doing carpet design for nearly 25 years with Xara, normaly with scaling 1:20
id dont need 200,35cm 200cm would be great.
but again thumbs up for all !!!
have to look for the rest of the news.
and crasy, this is only from 16 >>> 16.1 !
what will 17 look like!
;-)

Hi rsrsrs... by "normal tool", I assume you mean the 'Selector Tool' (arrow)... if yes... then hold down the alt key... it will measure correctly AND... snap correctly.
Yes there's a slight difference in snapping when selecting & stretching with a 'quickshape' tool... it's a bit more subtle...
But... like you... I love this tool! And you could design the heck out of it... TOTAL CONTROL of all aspects of it...

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
Definitely a great improvement for the tables, thanks!!
But am I correct that there's no change for inserting elements in cells? For example, in Table 1, what's now the best way to add a checkmark in an empty cell and have this new checkmark maintain its place in the table when the latter is moved?
-
Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
I've logged this with our developers, although after having a quick chat with them it would be expected to a degree that this wouldn't work by stretching the line with the old handles as it essentially turns off the "smartness" of the line. I would recommend resizing smartshapes with smartshape handles where possible!
Thanks
Rob

yjs... yes, it's very simple to add elements in cells... and... you can change size, color, etc...
Here's Table 1 that had the 'already' inserted check marks... I added ALL the black symbols... here's how ya do it....
The trick is to select the text tool... click into a cell... as if you were going to insert text... when the blinking cursor appears... go to 'insert symbols' and choose your symbol.
It will appear 'inline'... in the cell... you can, of course even add text to it.... with all the normal formatting features available... And... you can actually copy/paste
anything into the cell... (as the text cursor blinks)
Hope this helps...

Great, thanks Cliff - Using the text tool to insert graphics works fine.

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
I've just uploaded a new version of a website which I update every day or so. http://www.pyramidfolk.info/ The first indication that something had changed was the time it took to upload. Every file was new and I presume this had something to do with the way groups were being treated. But next, to my horror, it took even longer for the main map page to complete loading and display. http://www.pyramidfolk.info/index2.htm as the map appeared to be being redrawn rather than loaded as an image.
I'm really annoyed that what should have been an 'improvement' has made my life more difficult and I'm reacting out of anger at the moment. I have yet to see any benefits and may well end up ditching the website and giving up on Xara (which I have used since the Artworks days on the Archimedes).

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
I'm not sure if you mean how long it took to upload the files, or how long it took for the page to load from a visitor's perspective.
From a visitor's point of view, the map loaded very quickly for me. Australia 20Mbps download speed.

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
Hi Ian,
If it's possible, could you send me your website project file in a private message and I can investigate how Xara is exporting the groups and use it as an example of improvements that can be made.
Thanks
Rob

Ian, I couldn't even count the number of bitty PNGs that have now been created (actually 2,605).
Each has its own HTTP request and therefore will be a slower download (1.2 seconds here).
The killer is the time your local machine and browser will take to render all of these as HTML is not multi-threaded.
The 'fix' you need will probably select all and apply Web Properties > Image > Web image type: One image for whole group.
Happy testing!

Hi Rob
If you let me know how to I'll send you a copy of the Xara document.
Thanks,

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
Hi Ian,
You can go to File > Save as within Xara to retrieve the project file, then either click on my name > send message and attach it there, or if it's too big you can upload it to something like dropbox or gdrive and send me the share link.
Alternatively, you could also try sending it to robert@xara.com and I'll pick it up from there.
Thanks
Rob

Thanks for your observation. I have started to convert all the graphic groups to be exported as one image. Though I've some way to go before I complete the task (and tidy up parts of the project) there is a clear and significant improvement.

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
Hi,
I have just updated to the latest version of Xara Designer Pro X X 16.1.0.56164 DL x64 Feb 14 2019.
After updating a site I discovered that the navigation bar (hamburger menu) was damaged. The "hamburger" had vanished and all I could see was the "invisible" text "Menu" that I had grouped with the three bars. I had to group text and graphics to make the navigation bar and it has worked just perfectly so far. But now, it doesn't. All I can see is the "invisible" text and even if the pointer shows that it is a link the link does not work.
Since my client wants the hamburger menu I have not been able to publish the site yet.

Re: Just Released: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
When trying to create a nav bar in 16.1 the text in the menu shows centered. How do I get the text to be left aligned?
What I did:
Text "Menu". The three bars (hamburger menu). Grouped them and then entered the menu items. All text shows as centered.
Now I have gone back to v 16.0 due to all the errors in the updated version and all works fine as intended.
