Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Dear Xara,
if I export to PDF/X-1a for print I got following font error in writen PDF:
Attachment 121459
Translation: The embedded font "IWUSEV+FrutigerLTStd-Bold" could not be removed. Some characters may not be displayed or printed correctly.
The same PDF-Export with XDP V12.8.1.50861 is korrekt without font embeding error.
Attachment 121460
Please fix it asap.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
I can confirm this. This seems to be font-dependent, though: Some work, others don't.
This is just great. Now I have to decide between V15 with this PDF font bug and V12, which adds an unwanted white "page" background shape to all exported PDF documents - a bug that was never fixed, btw.
Come on guys. PDF export is bread and butter business for a design software...

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Hi Ikari,
the white Pagebackground in PDF/X-1a or 3a is normal because this versions flatten all transparancies. Take an PDF/X-1a from Indesign or an other DTP-Software and you will find this Background too.
The only way to be safe in output for print in XDP v15 is to transform fonts to objects. An other workaround I found is the way to mark the font who makes trouble and change i.E. the weight and then change back. Then export to PDF and voilá it works.
But bug is bug. So pls Xara correct it.

I don't see this is any other DTP software but XDPX V12.8... InDesign, Illustrator and Affinity Designer don't do this, neither did/do Xara versions before or after V12.8... See here for our discussion about this back in last September: https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...he-last-update
But anyway, back to the new V15 issue at hand...;)

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
The white background is only created when the transparency is reduced.
Please write an object and some text in XDP 12 to a PDF/X-1a, without transparency or shadow or other effects. There is no white background.
In contrast to v15, v12 writes correct PDF.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
What happens if you remove the the page shadow before export. I don't then get a white background in the export using v15
Example:

As far as I remember, the issue with the white page background was fixed in v.15. It didn't have anything to do with the page border/shadow.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
I can no longer replicate that now Mike. It exports without the background white rectangle either with or without the page shadow. Very odd.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
HI Ernie, I sent you a private message to provide you with an email address to submit the file and the font too. This will allow us to try and reproduce and resolve the issue.
Many thanks

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
I have found that exporting a document that includes a CHECKMARK in WINGDINGS font changes the character on output which I consider a bug. It NEVER did that in earlier versions, and still doesn't. Something has been changed in the export, and no-one but me seems to care. I'm sure the same bug is responsible for a number of the PDF issue threads that have been posted recently.
Refer also to this thread ... https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...t-Changes-Text

As regards output, I (almost) only care about PDF. EPS too for the right work. All destined for layout applications. Rarely as an end to themselves. So if I have issues getting a good PDF, yeah, I care.
I suppose you have filed a bug ticket?

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Actually no, I haven't ... I have no idea how to!

Thank you for the prompt reply and resolution.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Any idea when a fix will arrive for this issue?
PDF export is kind of crucial for a DTP app... So, wouldn't this justify some kind of emergency bugfix release outside of your regular release cycle?
In its current state XDP is kind of unusable to me.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Hi Guest,
I have checked out history of the Ticket that Keith mentioned, and it seems to be coming out with the next update, which will be for sure this year, but I don't have the knowledge when.
Cheers!

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Thanks for your reply. Still can't help feeling disappointed.
After 12.6 (stopped exporting PDF at all for me) and 12.8 (export page background bug) this 15.1 release is the third XDP version in relative short succession which is crippled by PDF export issues. Guys/girls, this is core functionality! Could you please be more careful about changes in those areas and/or do some more testing before releasing your software?
And: My update service is about to terminate in September...
I already had to extend my update service last year to get functional PDF export back.
And now it seems like the same might be happening again this year? Not amused.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
For now, try exporting as Commercial Printing rather than High Quality, and see if that makes a difference.
-
Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Thanks for the suggestion!
I never export as "High Quality", but only use custom settings to match the demands of my printing service (PDF/X-3:2002, FOGRA39).
Switching to "Commercial Printing" does not make a difference, though: Many fonts I tried don't export correctly.
And if I'm working within a customer's defined corporate design, a change of font isn't an option anyway.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
I need to export and it keeps crashing. Client waiting??????????????????????? Converts document to export and just sits there at 68%

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
Thank you Mike, for now I used an online file conversion from a RGB to CMYK pdf. Here is the link. Just used US web coated SWOP v2.

OK. Thanks. I thought it was to your pdf. No worries.
Glad you got it sorted.
-
Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
I did a very intricate design and when I output for press it took forever and never finished, so I assumed there is a bug. So my solution was to output and RGB at 300 dpi and then use that online link to convert to CMYK.

Re: Bug in PDF-Export in XDP V15.1.0
HI Behzad. Please, could you share your problem file via a private message as we would like to investigate the problem?
Both the wingdings issue and the problem Ernie encountered have been resolved for the next release and we'll also do our best to investigate and try and address the problems you are encountering.
