Hi. What is the best/fastest way to draw a 3D cylinder in Xara Designer? Thanks for your help
What are you looking to do? Something like A or B?

Attachment 114075More like B. See the attached image, please. Something similar but with a 3D more realistic look. Thanks.
I'm using XDP.
Have you tried using either the 3D function (left) or a blend between two ellipse shapes (right)?

Here's how I would do it.
3D function: is it the extrude tool? Once I create the cylinder,how do I adjust the shape? For example, make the top ellipse thinner.
I just tried the blend option. Once you blend two ellipses, how do you change the color of the top part (like the black part in your example)?
Thanks for suggestions and answers.
Ah! That's quick enough! Thanks. It doesn't have the 3-D realistic type look I need. How do I add it?
For the Extrude/3D thing, the outline color controls one color, the fill controls the other--and I forget which controls which already (getting old is hard... ;^) For the blend, I copied the blended object, then removed the blend and used the two ellipses for the top/bottom. I resized the top one down a little.
But like Gary shows, there are a lot of options and which is best/sufficient depends on one's needs.
Thank you. This helps me. I appreciate it. You are an awesome group, very generous with your time and knowledge.
Can you believe it?

Missed the part about 3D. :)
@Acorn
I 'can' ;) You used the blend function, right?
@Gary
Wow....interesting texture
Canova - It is a 3D stereogram. If you can see stereograms, you will see a 3D cylinder. Get real close to the image so your vision is blurry. Then without focusing on the screen, move your head away, very slowly until you start to get the impression of 3D space.
Very clever!
Canova, there are several ways to skin this cat. I took a different tact but the principals are the same as what the others showed. Actually I really like the way Gary P did his. To get more of a 3D look use the linear fill on the top ellipse and the bottom added shapes. You could try the conical fill on the top shape but linear fill is the easiest and in some ways looks better.
@wizard509 You are absolutely right. I've been trying different things and Gary's solution is the easiest and the one that gives me more control. Thank you all, again.

One more question...what's the best way to draw a cube or cuboid with a 3D-look similar to the green cylinder in my previous post? I'd prefer not to use the extrusion tool. Thanks!
Create a hexagon with the QuickShape Tool.
Draw the top side with the Shape Tool.
Clone and rotate the top 120 degrees for the right side.
Clone and flip horizontally for the left side.
@gwpriester Another great solution. Thank you!
Simple and easy is what I do best. You might enjoy the old Xara Xone Workbooks. http://archive.xaraxone.com/html/workbook.html
Thank you for this additional tip. There is so much to learn and your Workbooks are great!
