IFrame in Placeholder affects page content and rendering.
I am trying to add a calendar and contact form to a web page that links to our student management software.
I can place an iframe code provided by the software company into a placeholder and add it to the page without any issues and viewing it in Xaras preview screen correctly shows the calendar and contact forms. The issues however, arise with the fact that the placeholder either then makes content in layers I uses as header or footer to disappear. To add to this, once I publish the page, it no longer displays correctly in a browser.
Depending on what layer I put the placeholder on, it affects text and graphic in other layers causing it to disappear - regardless of where I position the placeholder layer. With a fair amount of trail and error I managed to get all content to display correctly, but then a pop up layer I use a menu choice no longer displays.
When I view the page in Xara the placeholder content appears positioned correctly, but once it is published the content within the placeholder is off to the left side of the page with portion of it missing. Changing the size or position of the placeholder makes no difference to a published page displaying the content correctly.
Would appreciate if anyone could help to bring me up to speed with the use of placeholders and iframe codes.
Cheers

Could you supply a url or better still the xar/web file?

It sound like a set of CSS properties is forcing heading styles and the forms to absolute positions.

Pages that are affected are the "Contact" and "Calendar" which is accessible through "About"
Both Calendar and Contact do not render correctly on a mobile device.
Menu pop up layers on both pages are affected once the placeholder is in position.

No idea yet but your MouseOff and MouseOver layers are in the wrong stack order; they should be just above the Page Background layer.

The Header and Footer layers are not needed.
Put their content into the MouseOff layer.
The Footer objects can be set to Position on Page > Footer.

Menu - Classes & Menu - About layer contents should be in the MouseOver layer.
You then soft-group each wit their respective button on the MouseOff layer.

Re: IFrame in Placeholder affects page content and rendering.
Thank you for the response. I use the layers to organise the content during design. Is it best to minimise layers and only stick to essentials then? I'm not too familiar with use of soft groups apart from keeping text and photos in sync - I will look at the pages and rearrange. Is there functionality built into the mouse on and off layers that affects place holders?

Past examples have shown that there can be issues so I suggest playing safe. If I get the time, I'll check out the Placeholder code next.

Re: IFrame in Placeholder affects page content and rendering.
In the calendar page, you have a Placeholder with partial code:
Quote:
<iframe src="http://app.clubworx.com/websites/northside_martial_arts/calendar/iframe" width="80%" height="628" border="0" style="border:0;">
It should be terminated with </iframe>.

Re: IFrame in Placeholder affects page content and rendering.
Thanks - the placeholder now displays in the correct position. I had just cut and pasted the code the software support people provided. It seems to me that placeholders and display of code and scripts is a bit of a hit and miss process in Xara. In some instances the size of the placeholder container had no bearing on the actual size of the content, other times it is a variable. Adjusting width and length parameters of code creates random results, sometimes it fits and what I preview is what I see in a browser, other times what the browser shows is different. To make it more infuriating, different Iframe code inserted in two identical pages renders differently on a mobile device. Is it a Xara thing or Iframe code in general. Do people using products like WordPress and Jooomla have the same issues?

Such failings are usually down to the person inserting snippets and not understanding the fact that the page's behaviour is being totally changed. Had you done the same with anyHTML editor, you would have failed the page's rendition. It is not a "Xara thing"; Xara provides relatively robust code across the major browser families and formats without exposing the designer to HTML vagaries.
Widths are usually sorted by setting the parameter to 100% or auto or whatever IFRAME parameters allow - do not rely on a snippet of code working everywhere without proper testing.
