Just oozes atmosphere---I like it, the colors and lighting, structures all look great and lends a mysterious feel to the place.
Nice work!!!

Hey, nice basement Stu... real homy like...the party cave...hehe... cheers
Not only is it rendered well, it looks like a great design. Great drama! Makes my imagination think about the character who lives there. (I'd be happy living in a space like that).

Thanks guys
Maya - Ya I like atmosphere.
Gidgit - Thanks bud.
Ross - Cheers for the complments.I think the interior decorator would be pretty scary looking as well
Stu.
I don't think so --- the face on the wall suggests to me it is not the chamber of a monster but rather a thinker. A Yoda-like fellow perhaps.
As an architect I know most architects and interior designers don't have the unencumbered creativity to design real-life spaces like you've shown. I think most however can appreciate them when we see them. Great design!

Stu--
Regardless of the architect or the inhabitant, it feels like a place I'd like to at least visit.
Which strongly suggests that I've "bought into" the reality of the scene, and um...
...therefore reality has been acheived, in my mind's eye.
Good going, mate, and glad to see you back again after an absense.
My Best,
Gare
Nice job Stu! I like how the light at the end of the hall invites you in.
Thanks
Ross thanks for giving me an alternative way of veiwing it,I never saw the space as the abode of a thinker, but now I can see what you mean.
Gary thanks, good to be back bud.Ya I find myself buying into the scene as well,I think I will have to re render this wihen I have a new puter so I can get deeper shadow and maybe volumetric light,I kept on running out of memory {512m} I might make a character as well and maybe extend to the left and make a chair or something,or build a chair into the wall maybe for the character.
What I would love to do is make a very wide render of a fully designed abode, but I have to use 800 x 600 because anything over that messes me up,but I am getting an LCD to cure that problem so I will do it then.
Randy - Its a clipped red omni for the warmth of a hidden fire is the effect I wanted.By using a 15 inch monitor and 800 x 600 I have to work out ways of making less look like more.
Oh ya the finished render has a soild fill layer of red set to softlight in Photoshop.
Heres the full render.
Stu.
I'm totally buying into this scene! It is BEGGING for a character!

Half a gig of memory and you're running out of memory?
May I suggest that the memory is fragmented by the time you get to your modeling program? There are a few memory-restorers available for the Macintosh: I cannot think of one right now.
Can you restart fresh, boot into your modeling program and see if that makes a difference?
Just my 2 cents.
My Best,
Gare
Thanks Danny...am working on it
I never thought of that Gary good idea .....I have Norton system works so I can defrag in speed disk.
I will also try restarting and see if it makes a difference.I do have some hyper nurbs smoothing on the floor and the head at a subdivision of 1 believe.I often run out of memory though in C4D by using area shadows or to much smoothing etc
...oh ya my processor is just 400mhz at the moment so that does not help.

A trick to free the clipboard in Cinema: Open a Null object and cut it. The clipboard (part of your ram) will be freed.
Thanks bud

Hi Stu,
Very nice image. I love the stone texture and the lighting.
I've never used a Mac, but I believe that Gary was talking about fragmented RAM and not your hard drive. I did a search on Google and found a couple of sites that may give you more information about how memory on the Mac can become fragmented and how to correct it.
http://home.olemiss.edu/~cccook/ITFl...acMem0599.html
http://www.tempe3.k12.az.us/for_teac...elp/memory.htm
There were many more links that may be of more help. I started the google search using the string "fragmented memory" and then searched within the results using the word macintosh.

Thanks very much Soquili ,and thank you for the links [thumbsup]

It looks like I just dont have enough physical memory to carry out the procedures I tired to in C4D.I already have 400m asigned to C4D with nothing running in the back ground, and the OS uses 50m,so I will try upping it to around 440 and see if its better
Stu.
Ever thought that the scene itself with the materials might well be a bit complex when you view it with Gouraud shading, and that, because your mac has only 8 or perhaps 16meg of videoram, the view also occupies ram, or at least defrags it? Perhaps you could try to go to wireframe, free the clipboard and then take a look at the ram that's really available. May make some difference perhaps...
Ahhh...It'll all be over soon now, and then you'll be flying sky high. Never knew anyone who ever made such an upgrade as you will make...
Thanks bud
Ya its going to make quite a difference
Stu.
Hi Stu--
Yeh, as Erik sez, emptying the clipboard by replacing the current (large) contents with a small or zero object will free up RAM.
Your processor speed, however, will not prevent you from accomplishing wot you want: it'll merely slow you down. Again, it's the free, unfragmented RAM when you enter the workspace that separates "can do" from "no can do".
My Best,
Gare
Cool! I wouldn't mind living there actually

My god, Stu, is there anything you can't do?? That is truly gorgeous. I'm finally getting my feet wet with 3D (Carrara Studio & Bryce), but I'm a long way from anything like this. (Still struggling with the view thing)
BTW, what OS are you using? In OS X (10.2.2) I've never had a memory problem. Of course, I'm not at a point where I can create, let alone render, anything this complex, but I do run Photoshop, FreeHand, Painter, Office X, and various and sundry other stuff at the same time. The only time I ever had to restart is when I install an app, or an OS updater. I'm running 1 GB RAM, but under OS 9, I still got memory frag after awhile.
Where am I going? And why am I in this handbasket?
Thanks guys
David - Ya looks pretty drafty to me though
Hi Julie thanks for the glowing compliment.Hey cool you have got some 3d soft, good stuff. You will really enjoy it,it does take a bit to get used to though, but practise is the key I think, and after a while the view thing will become second nature. You could also see if you can set up a different layout maybe?
My OS is 9.1,at the moment and 512m G3,with 512 being its limit.
Thanks guys.
Heres an update.
Stu.
