This month is K
I've had a few months away from all things graphic as I felt I was getting stale.
Back in harness again and I thought I'd use the Celebrated Burgeon Ornaments TG font, a restoration project by a talented group of TG members.
I used the lower case "c" for the frame, with a few embellishments of my own and Deming EP (pay whatever you think is suitable) for the lovely "K".
Bob.
Glad to see you back Bob. Looks good. I kinda feared no one had any interest in the drop caps any longer. I haven't had time to post any this time quite yet. You are the first, good on you.
Thanks, Larry, feeling fresh as a daisy now. Looking forward to what you (and others come up with).
This one features a nice free blackletter font, Deutsche Zierschrift. The "K" remains unchanged, just converted to shapes, but the frame is handmade, using a blend from
3 ellipses, which I copied to Illustrator to use the roughen tool to get the same feel as the font. To this I added a free texture of Gary Bouton's from July's XaraXone - Wood Medium Rough, which I gave a subtle flat brightness transparency to give the whole thing a distressed look.
Bob.
I really like this one Bob.
A bit of a famous K here.
Good one Egg. I'm glad you joined in. I like it. =D>
still no idea of the rules.... just following my nose but I had fun doing it
font is combustion tall brk
Handrawn, here is a bunch of stuff I got on the web, they are all short little ditties but I hope they get the point across. I put it all in a zip file just to make it easier, and, it's all in one place. I don't know how much of this is true but I'm sure Gare knows. Anyhow I hope you find this stuff informative. I know I did.

I think you did good with your drop cap.
thanks Larry :)
You are most welcome!
OK I finally got a few done.
some are side comparisons with and without the Filter Forge metalizer filter I am so fond of.

Here is another. Was an italic font but I changed it some. Once again I used the metalizer Filter Forge filter.

Here is another.
Took me awhile to figure out what font I had used before so"
this is:
Ornamental Versals
Ungroup twice
break shaqpes
2 pt line
Blue is linear fill
00f5f7 - 00f5f7
tan is ffc17f

The font used here is Cheap Sign. I like the basic idea of the font, but the dot size is too large for my taste. So I redrew the dotted areas and clipped my own halftone pattern inside, which made the result less cartoony looking. The original font is inset in the attachment.
Bob.
Good job Bob, I think I'll look up the font so I can see how yoy changed it, just to satisfy my couriosity. I'm glad I'm not alone doing these drop caps. Keep em coming.
I think I like yours better than the original font Bob. The original does look more cartoony.
I try to create some "modern" Drop Caps.

You were. Busy Igor. Not sure if I like one any better than another. They all look good.
As I have a bit more time in August, I thought I'd try a drop capital. The font is Vivian and it's supposed to be a kind of jewelled effect.....
And it is indeed Penny.Quote:

That's real pretty Penny! =D>=D>
Hi all
Finally got time to complete my idea for August.
Everything is vector including the actual knitted material.

That is superb mhjgkane, glad you joined in. I am especially impressed with the knitted fabric. So here's to you :-bd:salute:
That's excellent. Great idea.
Hi
Thanks for the kind comments. :thx
Finding the challenges are helping to develop my creative thinking and restore some lost confidence so thanks for this Larry.
Yes I think that is true. And that is mostly why I love the challenges. I also am amazed to see what different people come up with in response. For instance one month I did a true scribble which many did not like because it was difficult to find the end of the line, but Rik rose to the challenge in a way that became a long standing joke. It was one great response from Rik. So if you see threats of getting Mr Scribble or Mr Whatshisname after someone, or simply involved, that is result of Rik's response.
Just in time to get in August! I've been busy working on a new website.
Nice one coldwetnoz. it's good to see you back.
Thanks, Wizard. I've got to do more tutorials so I can learn more about using Xara. I'm not very advanced.
We all have to start somewhere. Tutorials are good, the challenges are good too. With the challenges, one is forced to use your imagination. Once you have the idea, try new things, see what other people do, and learn from those things
For instance when I was working as a delineator. we all learned from each other, if someone did something I liked I would figure out how to do it, improve on it, and put it in my bag of tricks, if not I'd forget it.
That's the way I learned to paint glass. I was taught one way but wasn't satisfied, so I started noticing different things some people did, eventually I put bits and pieces of those together along with my own take on it and it was my technique. For a long time, it seemed such a mess that I would think I wouldn't be able to pull it off, but I always did. I had something that had debth, sparkled, and best of all was uniquely mine. Cars were another matter, I was not good at drawing or painting them, and, I didn't care. So coldwetnoz don' sell yourself short. You do great, and I for one appreciate it. I wish I were better, but I cannot hold a candle to many here, such as Gare or Rik, just to name a few.
I find that the tutorials I like best are the old ones. Different versions cause problems so I just "wing it"! Anyway I'm sure to be asking for help soon as I start trying tutorials again. The drop caps are fun but my abilities go just so far with them.
Yeah I know what you mean. I like the drop caps, but not sure how much use anyone will get out of them. I've been thinking about an entirely different challenge for awhile, whether or not I start that one still remains to be seen.
Hi coldwetnoz
Really like the form of your letter 'K'. Nice one :)
Thank you. The font is "Aesthetics". I saw the dots and decided to add more.

Gradually catching up...
Bob.
Yeah! Thank Bob for the extra work. Glad to see this challenge is still alive, it was a fun one in my opinion.
