How do i go about making metal looking text.

Tons of different metals, which one Mike? Do you have an example of the finished effect you're after?
Here's a mixture of LE's (noise, bumpmap and curves) to produce a die-cast metal effect.
This is fully text editible
Here is an example of a metal effect similar to what Steve has done except I applied just a bevel and then used the embossing filter on it. You can find the embossing filter under live effects > Stylization. Between the adjustments you can make with the bevel tool and the adjustments you can make with the embossing it's very customizable. And like Steve's die cast effect the text is still editable as text.
Thanks for all the examples ..... I have a client that wants a metal looking text as a logo.
Steel looking I think...... are there any videos on line .
The ones you have done are in my text bank if you dont mind .....
Mike
Paul Saumure (psaumure) came up with a technique using the extrusion tool to create a nice steel effect See this thread
I have now got an Idea of what is wanted after all my efforts ....its attached.
How do I go about this .....all I need is it saying Stadium value Cars
Thanks for any advice

Mike, this video I created a while ago using DP6 should help you get that affect.
Looks like you've got plenty of excellent options here Mike. Also Roman did a very good metallic effect back in 2001.

I'm guessing that as Mike's profile indicates he's using DPX he doesn't have the Chrome plug in in the video as it's no longer supplied in newer versions. If one has a purchased version of the Eye Candy effects then Steve's Die cast method works well.
If you don't have Eye Candy effects you can create a similar effect by applying a bevel to the bottom shape and then apply the bumpmap to that. apply the add noise to the coloured text layer and use the embossing filter on that.
I've attached a .xar file that can be pulled apart to see how I did it.
F, see Mikes previous thread.
Thanks

I have been trying Frances to do something half way like yours but I cannot get it as sharp or metal looking as in my attached file.
Can you give me some easy steps....Please.

Here is a video of how I do this. You need to set your live effects to a high resolution and it takes some experimentation with the bumpmap settings
Thank you Frances..... easy to follow and perfect end product.

Each graphic that I create is custom designed at the time that I create it. The end results is not a vector graphic. If you like, tell me your desires and I will attempt to create it as my time permits and at no charge.

I understand ..... Will have a think about that ..... thanks for the offer .....

Hi laser, that's a very generous offer but here at TG we try to teach rather than to provide free artwork. :) Can you provide the steps that you took to achieve the result so that others who may read this thread in the future can learn from you? It doesn't have to be a video like I did, a written tutorial can be just as helpful :) Or perhaps could you post a sample .xar file with sample text that can be opened by others and examined to see how you created the effect?
