Inspired by Gray
Thanks to Gray I keep working on these.
First attempt at anything looking like a 3D object.
Purchased Xare earlier this year and have been practicing 2D graphics until now.
Any pointers on improving the output in JPG?
I would love to do aircraft in the Ron Duke style.Attachment 90954Attachment 90955

Absolutely brilliant. :-bd

Re: Inspired by Gray
Beautiful drawing. I would question the purple background though. An off white or light gray would be more appropriate.

Re: Inspired by Gray
Very nice work TKI :star I think the background may be a bit too dark. Gray is a real inspiration. I tend to agree with gwpriester's remarks.

Re: Inspired by Gray
Thats an excellent first attempt TKI. You've included lots of detail in the airframe. Try adding a bit of weathering to the finish. You can experiment with fractal clouds and plasma at varying transparencies to get that effect.

Re: Inspired by Gray
Nice work (I wouldn't even try!).
I have a question about the panel lines though. Why don't they continue through the red markings?
-
Re: Inspired by Gray
Actually they do continue through the meatballs and the tail graphic but we cannot see them on the JPG.
If I could improve the quality of the JPG we could see much more including the slight amount of weathering applied to each and every panel.
Could my advisors advise me on this please?
Many of the drawings I see on the gallery seem to be of improved output with a greater defintition of tone, shades and detail.
Is there a better way?

Re: Inspired by Gray
You might try exporting as png and see if that helps. or set the jpg quality to it's max.

Re: Inspired by Gray
As Larry says TKI, try cranking the JPEG quality setting to max when you save it. Emphasize your panel lines and weathering a little more to be seen in JPEG. If you're going to print one out use either TIFF or PNG and dial up the DPI to get better quality. Great looking profile you did on this plane.

Re: Inspired by Gray
Thank you all for the kind response and advise fellow Xarites.
This software is a keeper.
Hope to be as good as you all in a few years but by then you will all be even better!

Re: Inspired by Gray
TKI,
Excellent drawing. I always export mine at 100% for jpeg, but then I'm not sure what everyone thinks of the detail. I have noticed
in my own uploads that quality is lost with jpeg. So, I guess Gray's suggestion would be a good one to follow.

Re: Inspired by Gray
When I see your work Mr. Duke I believe that the quality has not been lost.
Your original vector images must be just sort of stunning.
Do you have an album somewhere on the net?

Re: Inspired by Gray
Nicely done TKI, I like it. Just a suggestion, normally in aircraft profiles you don't show the propellers just the spinner, the props tend to take your eye away from the drawing of the aircraft. Just for reference here are a couple of sites with nice profiles, http://www.clavework-graphics.co.uk/, http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/foru...ng-techniques/. just thought they may help. I use them a lot when making aircraft paint schemes for a combat flight simulator.
Keep up the great work mate.
