Re: Stop & Post June 2012
I have been working on a logo design and a new website for a new stereogram partnership with Brad Honeycutt, who has been acting unofficially as our agent. Now it will be official.
The blue logo is the one we selected.

and talking of eyes [you chose the right one, lets face it the only one Gary] heres a very simple one
the iris is a stone fill given a bit of concentric wave - it looks rather like my own [except my eyes are grey with orange flecks] what would I do without myself as a model...

If nobody posts in this thread it's going to go away. And it has been with us for some time since Simon started it years ago.
C'mon folks. What are you up to???

I hope not Gary. It still gets a lot of page views. I think most people just prefer to open new topics to showcase their best work. After all they spent a lot of time working on them so itīs understandable they want to focus and discuss it in a dedicated topic of their own. But thereīs still people posting here, and thereīs some interesting work in progress being shown. With that said iīm certainly guilty for not posting much lately. Iīve been spending my time testing ways to implement some stuff in Xara sites like Google fonts and some scripts. Anyway hereīs some work iīve done in Xara recently:
This is a simple layout i created in Xara to showcase some photos of a recent trip.
Pictured below are the index and a full photo page.
It would indeed be sad to lose this thread. The greeting card company has just taken the last batch of my designs, so I'm playing with these, based very loosly on William de Morgan's tiles. I want to try for the iridescent look but am not yet sure how..........

Those are really pretty Penny, I like the lighter ones the best.
Here is what I have been experimenting with this morning (most definitely a work in progress!) I am trying to capture the look of steam floating up and forming letters. I am using the shapebuilder and eraser tools for this, but I think my technique needs more refining and I think a background with less gray in it might make the steam look better.
Interesting Frances. That reminds me of something I have been wanting to do for a long time. And that is make an image or face look like it was formed from clouds.

Re: Stop & Post June 2012
let's see I already posted a banner I have been working on and I was helped by quite a few people (thanks everyone) but I will post it here again. Even though not Xara (Ok, I plan on using it as a template for a vector version soon) I have been sketching this rainy weekend in Mobile Alabama. nothing special but here it is just for fun.
I've been working on a website for my Faith (Baha'i) and one of those things is to put a calendar in it. You might remember giving me some help with that a few weeks ago, it's a coffee cup calendar and it works very nicely into Xara (DP8 (x))....Also, I had to use multi folders because I want to password protect some of the areas and fortunately someone asked the question on the site recently and I was able to follow links to get the overview of how to do that (and printed it out). The least I can do is let people know I didn't buy the program and the upgrades just to spend money...I love the Xara innovations and it's progressive attitude and the very reasonable cost compared to many other companies out there...anyway, enough soap box...

Here is something I have worked on from time to time for my desktop. There are two versions here. Which do you like best if either. I used one of them on my splash screen and the other for my desktop wallpaper, however I may use the same one for both.
I like the first one, the one with the 'sparkles' and light in it.....gives it more depth to me.....

Re: Stop & Post June 2012
I've been a bit preoccupied of late with, amongst other things, producing whisky labels, boxes, web site etc etc. Whisky, whisky everywhere and not a drop to drink, which is fine as I don't like it, but we are getting near conclusion now, thankfully.
The boxes shown here are mocked up and the label artwork shown is one of 10 variations for age, blended, single malt etc, etc.
Its amazing the regulations that apply to the design of the label and the prominance of the various bits of information that has to be shown.

I really like the light colored ones, the darks not so much (maybe it could be a "glow in the dark" );))

Oh yeah, and here's what I'm up to--an animation that involved simulating the movement of water in a pool. All the art is XDPX.

Yeah, it was pretty subtle. In the final version I changed it to be less busy and the colors more contrasty to each other. Oh yeah, and I added to kids batting a beach ball back and forth with ripples around each kids waist.

Zeb - That's a brilliant touch.
I was starting with the logo Brad has used for years (attached) and tried to make a legitimate logo out of what I am pretty sure is a Webding or Wingding character.
The site is 99% complete. I'll post a link to it in the web design gallery so I don't get messages telling me to move the post to the right forum

Fred and John
I am always in awe of people who can draw. Exquisite work from both of you.
John - I love the way you have shaped the face of the tiger with the direction and contour of your lines, as well as the way you have simplified the drawing to its basic shapes and yet the feeling of the thickness of the fur is apparent and the stripes. Brilliant work.
