Blender - Group project, if interested...
I decided to make a small room, in this case, a kid's room. I didn't make it blue or pink so that it wasn't any particular gender...so let's say it is for a Brother and Sister.
I have made and already stuck a cabinet in there...
Anyone else want to add in some toys or shelves or toy boxes or whatever???
Get rid of that purple cube and have at it. If you'll re-upload it, then someone else can add more junk until it looks more like a proper "kids' room"! ;)
Here's how the room looks at the start...

http://www.jamesalexander.de/ROOM.blend is the packed Blendfile in case someone wants to have a go...
Many kids' toys have a relatively simple geometry, so it's a good place to start to get your modeling skills on. ;)

What a fun idea! I turned that purple cube into a bed! And because I covered it with a bed spread it didn't have to be perfect, Gotta love that cloth simulation!
Here is the packed blend file

I love it, Frances
What a great idea... and it looks just right! Cool bedspread.
Now, to (analogously) remind me of my bedroom as a kid, it just 1024 more things. ;)
Really good job, Frances

I decided to add a carpet and a toy box, and I hope you don't mind James, I bumped up the lights a bit to brighten up the room. And since Blender is free and will import quite a few 3d formats those who use other3d software should be able to join in as well!
So who's going to fill that toy box?

Hello Frances,
Re: "...I hope you don't mind, James..."
Not at all. It's here for fun/play/experiment/learning... go as little or as much crazy as you'd like with it. ;)
By the way, I like both the new carpet and the toybox... it just looks a little empty.
I'll try to come up with a toy or two to add when I have just a bit more time. Busy week this week...at my "real" work. ;)
Peace

I like this thread James. I hope I can come to terms with Blender soon so I can participate.

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
Hello Larry,
Glad that you are enjoying it.
When the urge moves you and Blender agrees, I'm sure you'll add something, Larry.
I look forward to it. How about one of your paintings on the wall? Just an idea...
Peace

I decided to add a few toys to the scene.
There's room for a lot more stuff. ;)

I felt like the wall could use some decorating, so added a few Disney characters I made in Xara for my grandchildren

I forgot how I must attach/insert the packed blend file... :o
oops seems like James and I were working in parallel...

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
To pack the blend file: file> external data> pack into blend file. Then save.
TG doesn't recognize .blend as an accepted file type ( not sure if there would be enough call for us to ask Antony if this is something he could enable?) You can either zip the file and upload the zip file or use some sort of online storage and link to the file. I think that James uses his own web space, I use DropBox it is really quite handy and if you use this link we will both get extra space.

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
I tried to add my wall-pictures to James' last blendfile, but the link seems to be broken.
So, here's mine;

@James: I don't mind appending my stuff to your scene (with the balls and Rubiks-cube) if you can get the link back up.

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
Thank you, James. I thought maybe you just didn't like Bambi.... ;)

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
Re: Bambi
I'm a bigger fan of Thumper. ;)
By the way, something that I wanted to mention to you is that on some of the pix that you had on the wall, the normals were pointing in the opposite direction. (depending on settings) when this happens, the objects can become invisible in the 3D view. Frances' toy box was half visible, half invisible. One fix for this is to select the object and go into edit mode and select the offending faces and then choose "flip normals."
Additionally, there is a setting on the "n" panel (when you're in edit mode) that will allow you to display the normals projecting from faces, it's under Display/Mesh/Faces. If the little line points out the back, it will be invisible in the editor. (unless you're looking at it in the editor from behind the object)
Peace

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
Thanks for the info, James.
I had noticed that they didn't always show, but as I was working in quad-view, I was able to locate them, ans as they showed up when rendering, it didn't really bother me. But it's good to know how I can remedy these things.

Really good job, Guy
I "borrowed" your table to make a matching nightstand and then created a clock for it as well.
I moved the Rubik's Cube from the bed to the more fitting (and less lost in) table.

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
for some reason James your blend file wont open for me? I get an error that says failed to read incomplete?

Re: Blender - Group project, if interested...
I'm sorry, Frances
You were so fast that you called it up just as it was finishing uploading (in the background) to my server.
Please try again...
Next time I won't save my message until I've seen in Filezilla that it has finished...
