Hi People!
I've created these glass letters, using CorelDRAW Extrude tool and miracle Xara's Transparency (of course Corel is out of theme, but you can draw 3D objects directly in XaraX, using Blend tool).
What do you people think about this technique?

Very nice effect. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
However, the Bevel tool in Xara will not get you that effect. You'll need to do "blends" for that particular type of perspective 3D.
Like so...

Oh i couldn't resist!... i just HAD to post another version! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Different transparency mode here... i prefer this version myself. More striking.

I'll have to try this out. Nice work Xander and Mark.

Thx guys. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Oh and i forgot to mention the trick to my effect is in applying a .5 white stroke to the blended shapes. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
That's what produces the edge highlighting. More blends = a brighter, smoother effect, but more solid looking. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Cool 3D effect. Worthy of a minitutorial, no?

I'm not sure carygee which effect you're referring to specifically... but in case it's the one i posted, i'm gonna cover my buttocks here with a mini-tute.
Please forgive the rediculously gross Jpg compression in this sample image. I'm sure you all know that XaraX produces ultra clean images. File size was an issue here though. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
I tried to put in as much detail as possible in this small space, but if there are any questions feel free to ask. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

They are one of those things that you wish that you had come up with yourself first.
I will be trying this out myself now.

I sent you an e-mail request to do an extended Xara Xone Guest Tutorial on the glass letters.
As I did not receive a reply, I must assume you did not get my e-mail? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Can you do one? If so e-mail me and I'll give you the details.

I'll email ya Gary.

Better later than never...
I've been reading the forum for years (All my respect to Gary) but never posted. But Xander's idea reminded me a technique you were using for
Aurora Borealis. I made a small attempt and here is what i've got. Method is very close to Mark's perfect small tutorial< but not identical

Hi Andy,
Welcome to the forum officially!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I would be interested in a tutorial on your technique. I think the "3" you have posted in the group, closest to the viewer is spot on.
If you don't have the time then I totally understand but I think it would be useful to see how you achieved this effect.
Many thanks http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

RAM... just lower the Opacity a great deal and you'll get the almost invisible effect that you mentioned. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Welcome Andy
Splendid effect. I suspect you did it with the reverse rainbow color option?
By the way - Mark submitted a splendid expanded version of his tutorial which will be the Guest Tutorial for September.

Richard! It's not a matter of time. I'm afraid my English isn't quite good to make a tutorial e.g. Mark did. If the .xar file will do, here it is (I attach it).
-
... There isn't anything remarkable. The only noticeable difference between Mark's method and mine is that for rainbow group I convert lines to shapes and applied a linear repeating alt-rainbow fill to lower shape. Then blended them in usual way and played with various transparency levels and types to get the final effect.
Hope it wil be usefull for you!

This is my first post here, and I have to say ARG! I can't get that effect just right http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
I can't wait for the full tutorial http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
p.s. love your work Gary! You and this forum makes using Xara X MUCH easier!

Hey, thanks. Actually after I posted it, took a break and came back, I agree it looks good http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I guess my problem is getting the routine down pat. I struggled with that pic for about an hour. And now trying it again, I can't replicate it (or at least not as well).
But now I'm on a mission... glass letters or die trying! heh heh

Greetings everyone! Sorry to have been gone so long. It has been months since I've posted anything as I've been battling the computer gremlins it seems like forever! Finally broke down and bought a new system, as I got tired of coddling that 3 year old system along. Still a few issues to iron out, but I'm making fairly steady headway finally instead of loosing ground.
All I can say on this is, what a great topic to come home too! Fantastic examples from everyone. Very inspirational.
