Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
My friends I've just finished my first site with Web Designer 6. I built many with an antique version of Adobe Page Mill and am planning on updating all of those with Xara. So far I'm very happy with the program. Today I had a friend call up and he says I have all kinds of problems with the new site. I'm not seeing them? My client is very happy, he is not seeing the problems. My wifey at work is not seeing the problems. I'm thinking he is having browser problems? Let me rephrase..I hope he has browser problems and it's not my site. Can anyone go in and look at the site and give me thier opinion? It's nothing special..but a happy client is! Thanks Jeff

Welcome to TalkGraphics Jeff
I don't know if you are currently working on the site, but in Firefox and Internet Explorer, there are serious problems.
I am getting a green screen with two lines of text on ever page with the content one screen below. The content on the screen below when I scroll down looks good but I am not sure that that business at the top is all about.
Your gallery page needs to be broken up into several galleries. Either your site is on a very slow server, or there are just too many photos.
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
I am getting what Gary described above in Firefox (3.6), but in IE7, the site seems to be fine.

Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Okay, this is strange. I had that huge green top border in IE9, Chrome10, Safari (Windows) and Firefox 3.6. But it loaded perfectly in Opera!
Being a techie-dummy, I downloaded the page to see what I might catch in MS Expression. BUT, luckily I checked my browsers again -- every single browser opened the page properly, but only of my hardrdive -- so it may indeed be a slow server. BUT --- again! --- that suggested looking at his graphic file sizes, as long as they're on my hard-drive. That's not it either. They all look well optimized.
If I'm not back here in 15 minutes, then I saw nothing in Expression's HTML.
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Found it. Over my head but found it. I saw this when I opened it in Word "-->" Which says something is being closed that was never opened. Did a search and these next two lines say the same thing diferently. Lines 18-20. The "bad" part is boldface in the second line, the same "-->" and it's where that green background is in the code, 0000.png.
Try removing the "-->" in line 20.

Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Mike..and everybody many thanks for your help. But Mike what you suggest may be over my head? I might open the site back up in Xara and try to see if I can find anything there, then upload it to the server again? I have never had any issues with my server. I'll be back in a bit after trying a few things...again..thanks Jeff
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
OK I've gone in and looked at the site in Webdesigner, it appeared fine, I previewed it and it appeared fine, I exported it to my backup drive and also saved it in designer. I transferred all the files from that backup drive to my server again. Last time I did this I think I only uploaded the "newer" files, this time I uploaded all of them. It looks fine to me on the web, but I couldn't see any of the issues before, I'm using IE8. If it would help you guys to have an image of what's on my server, I'll capture a quick one for you guys and upload it? Really appreciate all the still needed help, thanks Jeff

Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Would it be possible to inspect your .web/.xar file?
It seems that your chosen page background colour and shape are being generated with some text then all other elements for the page are being generated shifted below the background. See attached image to see where the background and the other elements are in relation to each other.
BTW this is how I see the page in all my installed browsers. IE9, Firefox 3.6.16, Chrome10, Opera 11.01, and Safari 5.0.3

Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Bill many thanks buddy for your help, uploading that image took time, very special of you. Hey I hope this is the file you like to see. I'm not sure I'm uploading the site correctly or not to my server. I am not uploading this file. I can get you a quick snapshot of what is on my server if you'd like...Here we go and thanks again, Jeff..
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Jeff have you uploaded many times with updates for the web site?
May I suggest that you clear the files from the web host and make a clean upload.
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Bill I have done just that, uploaded many times with updates, but I also cleared the server an reloaded couple weeks ago, I will try it again this morning, before 9AM PST if you will look for me and see if it worked. The problem for me is, when I make changes in WebD..and I preview the site every thing looks fine, also when I visit it in IE on the web everything looks fine, I'm not seeing the issue and I'm obviously not seeing my new changes or improvements. The latter being a biggie. How can I work on a site and not know if what I'm doing is being seen by browsers everywhere?
Did you see anything in the file I uploaded for you? Thanks bunches for your help Bill, Jeff
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Hi Jeff,
Everything in your .web file seems to be good. I exported as website and have placed it on my local servers to see how it looks. Everything is good on IIS 7.5 and the two versions of Apache I have installed on machines on my local home network. The export on my local machine produced 69 png images for your site. What got me to think it may be a case of too many updates with images being renumbered is the numbers for the png images from your site are in the 300 range rather than the 1 through 69 that an export to a fresh folder produced.
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Bill my friend, thank you again for sticking with me buddy! Anybody else you're welcome to join in and help is appreciated greatly.
What I did, I cleaned the server of all files. I worked on the site all morning, 6 hours. Some of my pages were custom size, I made them all the same size. I deleted the menu bar on all the pages and started from scratch, re-naming all the page file names and created a new menu bar then placed it on every page. By re-sizing pages I had to move things around, text and images, and re-size most of them as well. I deleted one gallery, I'm not sure if I can have two on one page, can I? I exported the re-built verson to a new folder on my PC, I uploaded the files to my server.
What I need from you?
Would you, when you get a momnet, please go in and look at it for me? I visit it and it looks and opperates fine, all the new changes are visible, but I couldn't see the errors before, so I'm in the dark here. Many thanks, Jeff

Jeff if you are not seeing your changes are you sure you are uploading them to the correct folder on your web host.
I'm not seeing any change of the webpage.
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Bill a big thank you again my friend. Hey I did see my changes yesterday, I'm sorry if I confused you, sometimes I'm not the best communicator in type! I saw the changes on the web, everything looked fine, my client saw them and said ecery thing looked fine, BUT, my buddy here who uses Firefox or some other browser said there are still big issues, he showed them to me, and yes, there are. I have a ticket going with Xaa support and they've asked for some files, I'm going to try and get those to them very soon and I'll keep you in the loop of course. Thanks again Jeff
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
I am still waiting to hear back from Xara on the issue. I updated to IE-8 today, the website looks fine in it. The website looks fine when previewing in Xara web designer, but still in Safari it has serious issues. I'm not sure what other web browsers are working with it or not. This is quite troubling that anyone on the internet would see it all screwed up when I sold it to a client who is paying to advertise it on the internet. I need help and soon, thanks jeff
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Jeff you may find it beneficial to have multiple browsers installed on (at least one of) your machine(s).
Have you updated the site on your web host? I am still seeing the same page with issues that was there last week. Forcing a refresh does not change anything.
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
Bill many thanks for your promt reply, nothing after this post:
"What I did, I cleaned the server of all files. I worked on the site all morning, 6 hours. Some of my pages were custom size, I made them all the same size. I saw all my new changes at that time, it all looked good. I have done nothing to it since that post. It looks fine to me, it looks fine when previewed in Xara. I did download Safari just so I could see the issues, and they look bad. But in IE8, that I downloaded this AM, it looks fine. So buddy, does the program only work in certain browsers? That's a serious defect I think. I guess as long as it looks good to me and my client in IE8 then great..but what happends when someone emails him and tells him it looks like crap. What about the clients he looses becasue of this issue.
I'm not getting the drift here. Should everyone have different browsers? Is it me, the software, or my server? What do I do next? I'm at a loss and have tons of extra time now into this project? I'm trying to do everything I'm told. Bill..can I send you an image of what files are on my server, could it be that I am ftping those files manually that possibly I'm missing a folder or file? I'll let you know what Xara writes me..thanks again, Jeff
Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..

Re: Possible Browser Issue? Help Please..
For anyone following this thread, the issue has been resolved, many thanks to Bill for his help in getting that done. The problem was with my server and my CSS files not being properly served there. Once the server fixed that on their end things appeared a they should in all browsers for me. Thanks Talkgraphics as well, DD
