This is the followup thread from my post in 'Off Topic Chat'...
As visual artists, many of you may find it more enjoyable to explore the question,
"What is Creativity?" by visual expression. So here is the challenge:
What is creativity to you? Give a 'statement' of your opinion through visual expression.
Try to put it in the form of a Character or Characters. Thank you, and Have FUN!!!>:)
Titled: Brain Babies
Here is my 2cents for an example of- defining 'what is creativity' by illustrating a character-creature. This example comes straight from my sketchbook as a first attempt at working out this idea.
It is based on the facts of some fish species which are called 'mouth brooders'- meaning that this fish broods its eggs or young inside its mouth. often, it is the father fish that does this. In my case, I have a 'mother' brain brooding her brain babies
I have used a 400 series sketchbook [60lb./light texture/acid free/premium recycled paper], a graphite drawing pencil [of H hardness], and a canon camera to get it into the digital realm.
So the challenge is on!! have FUN with it....
That was very creative TwidderBird, and very interesting. It's nice to see a hand drawn drawing too, especially with such a fascinating theme. If I get a chance I will put up something too, in due course. I'm glad you took this from one forum to another, and from one form of the idea to another. It's been a thought-provoking experience.

thank you james for your nice words. It took a long time for me to come up with an example. not until I used the phrase brain babies in the Off Topic thread. it was then that that visulization popped in my head. I think I had recently been looking into these fish who mouth brood.
neodeist, your example is interesting! it makes me think of all that you wrote regarding Creation vs creation. would you be willing to share how you came to this? if so, thank you!

How I came to it? Plato ... partly ... and all night sessions mentally meandering ;)) I suppose it's akin to the Big-Bang theory - Creation is built up of innumerable creations ... bright ideas that are unique or which add to something already in existence. Plato would say the Ideal Forms exist in the Real World [as opposed to the shadow world we are aware of and inhabit] and we 'remember' bits of these. I think new things can be created and therefore Creation is expanding. No religious inferences need be taken from this, it is merely the nature of things ;) :cool:
I'm not a cartoonist that's for sure, but I thought this would fit in with the theme of creating a character for this challenge.

No, I won`t tell you how I came to this, you look and your brain asks itself
why what etc. so your mind wonders (and wanders) and so it instills creativity
to your mindseye, that is the secret.
Art should explain itself, it is not the artist but the brain of the viewer that fills
in the picture. And what you see, is you.
If I tell you what or why it is, it is set, and it loses it's creativity.

I'm happy to inform that the question, "What is Creativity?", has been published on my journal in complete form- with 3 parts.
I would very much appreciate any constructive comments or crits either directly on the journal itself or right here.

I read part 3, at: http://wwwbluedwarfstudio-odyssey.blogspot.com/ and found it very interesting, with some charming visual selections to view. I recommend others read it. I followed your link, TwidderBird, to the test you spoke of at the Art Institute of Vancouver, and here were my results:
Left Brain 53%
Right Brain 47%
“You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. I’d be interested in results others here end up with. See if you can beat ‘skating judge’ – I dare ya! ;))

My numbers were almost exactly the reverse of yours. Means I'm mercurial and unfocused [tho it doesn't say that! ;))]

Spooky! That was mine Steve! In fact, except for the reversal in your figures James the numbers are the same. And they're nearly 50/50 ... in the middle. Did I say spooky? I smell statistical humbug! Can you imagine me as a ballet-dancing beautician?:D Perhaps you can ;))

just an FYI for anyone interested in the science of the brain which allows the brain to relocate functions and skills when a part of it has to be removed surgically is to be featured on Nightline tonight. A story about a very young boy who must have 1/2 of his brain removed.
