How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Hi,
I purchased Xara Webdesigner 6, and I am totally lost on how to create an animation on it.
I was accostumied with Adobe Flash, and: where are the timeline? hehehehe :)
I don't get to create a simple animation on Webdesigner 6. Is there some thread or discussion/video describing it, please?
Thanks in advance for all your help. :)
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Hello ewsg,
XWD is a web design package. It doesn't create animations (not in the strict sense of the word), you have to create your animation in another application (like Flash, or animated GIFs created in Xara apps) and then embed them into your HTML pages.
I hope that helps :thx
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Frank you are wrong.
Web Designer has all the animation capabilities of the Designer Pro.
You can create simple animations quite easily.
Please see the "Flash Animations" topic in the Web Designer help for details.
Alternatively you can find some tutorials on this forum: http://www.talkgraphics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=49
(check the locked threads at the beginning).

Who better to talk about Xara/MAGIC's flash capabilities that Charles Moir himself.
Enjoy

Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Up until now I have been ignoring the animation part of XWD6 because it looked rather daunting...but now after the threads I have read and the magnificent Sledger posting that video...wow a whole new part of the program just opened up for me.
Thank you

Hello friends,
Thank you very much for the informations and for the videos. :)
Fantastic! I will now start to (try) make animations on Xara Webdesigner 6, and see what I can do! :)
Thank you again!
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Hi,
I am starting now some animations on Webdesigner 6, but, is there effects we can use?
If so, where can we find them, please?
Thanks! :)
Is it impossible to create animations on Webdesigner 6?
Hi,
I own both Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 6 and Webdesigner 6.
Today, I was totally unable to create a simple animation on Webdesigner 6.
I only got this on Photo & Graphic Designer 6. The same procedure I done in Photo & Graphic Designer 6 to create the animations was made on Webdesigner 6, but nothing was animated. :(
And, another question I would like to ask, please, is regarding animation on Photo & Graphic Designer 6. Are there effects we can use?
And, regarding the frames, a simple animation with around 20 seconds takes more than 110 frames, and I noticed that I don't get to create fluid animations.
To move a simple text from a place to another is extremely complicated, and I don't got to do the interpolations that the Xara's CEO done on his video.
To change an object from a color to another was impossible, to me. At least, in that fluid and perfect way. I tried to play with the duration of each frame, etc, but... I could not do a perfect job.
I followed the video instructions created by the Xara's CEO, which is regarding an older version, and done the same.
But, I found the above problems.
Could someone help me, please? :)

Thread merged.
Remember that objects to be animated need to be named so that they will smoothly 'tween' from one position to the next in flash.
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Hum, I forgot this. I will try to name them.
What is the purpose of naming the objects, sledger?

To tell Xara Designer Pro 6 which objects you want to animate, it's necessary to give each object a name.
I recommend reading the Manual (Help file) section on Flash Animation:

Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
As Sledger said, if (like in the video) you have a rectangle and a star in frame 1 and a rectangle and a star in frame 2, it tweens one to the other. If you have two stars in both frames, it has to know which one it is moving to which position.
Try this in frame 1 name star 1 and star 2 and in frame 2 name star 1 and star 2 watch the animation. Now in frame two, change the names to star 2 and star 1. Now watch the animation .... See the difference?
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Hello friends,
I understood.
I will try to do this again on Webdesigner 6, because I only got on Photo and Graphic Designer 6.
And, so, if I have 150 frames, I will have to name each object I want to animate, on all frames on which I need them to be animated. Is this correct?
Thank you. :)

Why do you need this many frames? The tweening is there to reduce the frames to just the key frames.

You have to apply names only to objects that require smooth transitions between frames. You don't really have to name all of them manually, as it's a common practice to create next frame by duplicating current and then modifying the objects as needed. In this case all names are preserved.
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
I think I am making many mistakes there...hehehe :)
Perhaps, due to the fact I was accostumied with timeline based animation softwares.
So, each frame copy preserves the name, correct?
And, all of this applies to Webdesigner 6?
Are there effects we can use, as many similar softwares on the market have?
Thank you very much for your help!

I don't think there are any similar software to Xara are there?
When you say 'effects' - are you meaning 'transitions' ?
In any case, effects and transitions can be created manually.
Xhris has some neat flash effects on his home page banner.
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
Hi Sledger,
Yes, also transitions.
So, on Webdesigner 6 there are not any ready to use transition/effect. Is this correct? :)
When I mentioned similar software, I was referring to animation softwares, like Adobe Flash, for example, comparing it with the animation features on Webdesigner 6.
Fantastics the effects on Xhris website. Was them created with Webdesigner 6?

Adobe Flash or SwishMax work differently so aren't really similar at all.
Though I do understand what you mean. Xara's flash animation takes a different and far simpler approach which is not intended to compete with any Flash authoring software at all. I think Charles mentioned this in his video.

I believe Xhris used Xtreme Pro 5 for those, but yes - you could do the same with WD6.
Re: How to create an animation on Webdesigner ? I'm lost
