What are your two avatars doing? Are they being "creative"
'Pro'-creative, I think, Gary! ;)
Jose, I've been having trouble getting the pages on GraphicRecipes.com to load or finish loading (not just the one for this tutorial). Anything going on? Or is it something on my end? Other sites seem to be loading as expected for me.
Can't wait to tackle your new tutorial,
Harry
Jose's Avatar?
In the old days; it used to be called 'LOVE'
Now days; who knows?!!!
;))
Hi,
I downloaded the movie but nothing on my computer plays the avi and I have a lot of HD codecs installed.
What did you use to record them?
JimM
p.s I have Nero 10, Cyberlink set of codecs, DivX etc installled.
JimM
In the avatar he fall and his knee was broken, she is helping him to home.
And I use Camtasia to record the video, i will export the video with a diferent codec.
I will use Xvid Codec.
Hi Jose,
Thanks I tried everything I have installed with no luck.Has any one else had trouble or just me?
JImM
I'm still having trouble getting the page to load. In the mean time I decided to download the video to my hard disk.
One active download...
I might be a while on this one,
Harry
.
@Scotty .... try Gom Player, It's freeware and my player of choice for any type of video. The controls are good and the playback is good. (6.9 MB download)
Or try VLC, it plays everything you throw at it.
The video download is 140 MB :-O
JimR
Hi,
Well the VLC program worked nice tutorial! the Gom didn't work kept searching for codec ..
JimM
Your right, I've never had it baulk at a .avi file before. However, the codec it requires is Techsmith Screen Capture Codec (TSCC.exe) - Techsmith make the Camtasia Recorder and Snag It) - and it's available from Techsmith here
I will upload the new video i choose Intel Indeo Codec, the video should be played in most players.
Also i will add an iphone/ipod touch version
Don“t know why, really I opne the website in another computer and works fine, I download the video too. Do you try deleting the cookies and cahe? we never know!
Thanks alot!.
Whatever happened to the good old days when people used to do tutorials that were images that you could simply view, ą la XaraXone? There's still people out there with crappy connections, you know? It's nothing personal Josč, I'm just not on the whole video bandwagon unless it is for something (like a music video or a film preview) that cannot be shown in any other way. Some people have even started putting the forum rules up as videos! For heaven's sake... we can all read. Especially those of us on crappy connections.
Thank you for your understanding.
And to get to that size it's been compressed into a ZIP file! At that size I'd prefer to have a PDF document I can reference and/or print out. It would probably be less than 1/10 that size.
I'm trying to download the video again (4th time) using the Opera browser instead of Firefox. We shall see... or not.
Holy guacamole,
Harry
The beauty of this forum is we have choices. We can choose to use the 'text' tutorials with pictures or we can choose to use the videos if we want.
Personally, I choose both, depending on the tutorial.
Isn't choice great?
People with crappy bandwidth don't have that choice when we're talking about a 140mb video download. That's why providing a graphic would have been nice. Yep, I agree with you, choice is great.
This is all I get when trying to view this tutorial:
Yep, I certainly get your point...I used to have very crappy bandwidth. I think some people making tutorials can't always do both, it's a time thing.
So for now, my guess is you won't be able to do this one for a while.....
That is too bad and I'm not being patronizing....it's always best if you can have the best of all worlds....
I will be making step-by-step tutorials but i do not have enough time, i need to work, and video tutorials are quick to make.
I shouldn“t use most of my time making tutorials for graphic recipes, this is not my work and i do not win a penny making the website and the tutorials. I undestand what you said, but you should undestand why I decide to add video tutorials, what do you preffer a video tutorial or nothing?, i can make the step-by-bstep tutorial, just try to make this tutorial step-by-step and see how much time you need.
I know 140 mb its a big file, but i said its a 1920 pixels video, not a simple video, and the video showing online is about 21 MB.
I will use a .mov file to download, and will be inside a .Zip file, just to avoid the auto-play in the player instead the download.
I prefer tutorial videos, I simply find that they supply more information on exactly how to push all those buttons to get it right. The addition of spoken voice along with the mouse clicking is a fine way of picking the brains of the author (XaraXhris YouTube videos are good examples) and learning a lot in a short time.
Agreed, videos take some starting/stopping and swapping between video and Xara when you do the tutorials. If you prefer printing out the tutorial the written ones will suit you better. I just still prefer seing the author work because it teaches me more efficient how to work like him/her.
JimR
Yes, step-by-step are easier to follow, both have Advantages and disadvantages, and the author can explain more details in a video, but my native languaje is Spanish, and i do not have enought users speaking spanish.
The on-line tutorial worked for me both times. The .avi (the first one) and the new quicktime (the current one).
Looking forward to the new attachment so that I can download and try the tutorial.
Thanks so far Jose.
:D
Nice one Jose.
The new QuickTime movie opens up beautifully.
Thank you for your detailed reply, Josč. I do understand your point, I really do. I'm sure people prefer to see your video tutorials than to see nothing at all. I also agree with every one of your points about the time it takes to make a graphic tutorial. I've made enough of them in my time to know that! However, how about reducing your Xara window size when you record the tutorial and then reducing the file further in an app like Format Factory* where you can choose the output settings and format?
Thank you for making your tutorial! :)
*FF is completely free and is very, very good.
Well, it's good news, I finally got the 140MB wallpaper video to download to my PC yesterday and then managed to work my way through the entire tutorial. If you can persevere to the end, the resulting effects and wallpaper are very nice, indeed.
Someone new to Xara Xtreme, Picture & Graphics Designer, or Graphics Designer Pro might have a bit of difficulty following, and actually seeing, what's being done in several of the sections but, overall, a nice 'little' video tutorial. Thank you, Josč.
Two thumbs up,
Harry
.
Hi Harry.
Very nice indeed. I think you did a fantastic job. =D>
I hope, when I do mine, it's as good as yours.
I haven't had the energy to try anything yet as I'm just back from my holidays and haven't yet recovered from the long drive home. Even though the drive was yesterday!
Mind you, having seen the video and having seen what you have done, you've got me itching to have a go.
Well Harry.
You got me so worked up that I just had to have a go.
So, here is my attempt.
I did mine in different colours. The initial idea of the colours was good but don't know if it works?!!!
Thanks for the video Jose. It works very well but the user does need some degree of expertise.
Having said that, because you can pause the video, you can follow what is being done with some care.
To give others an idea, I would class myself as a relative beginner, who has been playing about with Xara for about a year.
I'm sure I speak for many when I say, "Thanks for your hard work Jose."
=D>
Looking forward to your next recipe!
