I own Xtreme 5 (Not Pro)
If I buy the £79 upgrade to Xara Designer Pro 6, will this be OK, or do I need the Pro version of Xtreme for this to work?
Thanks.

I own Xtreme 5 (Not Pro)
If I buy the £79 upgrade to Xara Designer Pro 6, will this be OK, or do I need the Pro version of Xtreme for this to work?
Thanks.
It will be OK.
That's a pretty good price for Xtreme Standard users to get onto the Xtreme Pro product when compared with the outright purchase prices for both.
Xtreme Standard 5 to Designer 6 Pro: £79
Xtreme Pro 4 to Designer 6 Pro: £99
Unless there's something earth shatteringly great in v6 I'll stick with my Pro v4... the loyalty discount given to those who bought into v5 works as a disloyalty penalty to those already using the Pro products. It won't be long until Xara give 20% off everything over a bank holiday weekend or similar after all. It's about the principal rather than the money.
Thanks. Purchase made :)
Yep, can`t believe this is true.
I took pro for the flash capabilities when it started.
Those were given away in the regular one next time.
Now regular users can upgrade for the same as the ones
who already own the pro version, which set me back some.
There MUST be a mistake here.
The other thing to consider is that non-pro users don't get the web updates from WD6, which they historically did.
I guess the only people who have had a real sting in the tail are those who bought XWD6 anticipating the combined discount for upgrades that existed previously would happen this time around.
As far as I heard they did, but I am not sure, I thought some said
that instead of the 99 dollar they got 84 dollar charged at the end of the
form, that could be the discount for XWD6, but I haven`t heard anything
about it since.
And I feel a sting, so please don`t say I don`t.
it's those bad christmasmornings all over again ;)
I can verify the additional discount for WD6 owners.
I was upgrading from XX5pro and WD6 however, the upgrade page didn't indicate any additional discount. Went ahead and purchased anyway, using my email address already on file for my previous purchases and was surprised to see the price was $84 and not $99. With shipping charges, it went up to $92 total.
So, got a $15 additional discount automatically when checking out.
Well enough complaining from me.
After the banks(wel we all know what they did),
the insurance companies(pensioninsurances that charged 48% costs
or even more, of the the money you brought in)
real estaters(they added square feet in the ads while the
real square footage could be as much as 25% less)
and a whole lot of other baddies.
This upgrade thing is a minor one. ;)
And that smart stretchy photo thing looks really good.
It's just a commercial decision, not some personal issue. Charging other people more doesn't mean you would be charged less and in this case the situation is slightly unusual because the two software versions have a more pronounced divergence.
Feeling bad because someone else gets charged the same, doesn't make your situation any differrent. More positively, you have had the benefit of the pro software since your last upgrade while others have not, so you have had extra value from the product.
Always make software purchases on the basis of personal benefit, rather than the benefit others receive.
I have to agree with you on that one. I feel like I've been cheated a bit. I recognize that I acted on a false (nobody from Xara said there would be a discount) perception, but that perception was based on precedent. I for one will not be continuing to purchase future upgrades to XWD.
My motivation before in purchasing XWD was to more or less put a down payment on the future functionality for part of it now. If this is the new pricing strategy, then there is no motivation to purchase the same functionality twice. I will just wait for the next version of Designer, next time.
I am also not really happy that the non-pro users can get the same upgrade price as the pro users. I don't understand the new pricing structure at all. Having said that I'm not happy about the pricing structure, it didn't stop me from purchasing the software. But my purchasing practices have changed.
Eric
Hmm you musn`t have a bonus structure where you work.
I have worked in places where they would open other peoples
payrise envelopes to see what they made and if they made
more then them ;)
And I know it isn`t personal ofcourse, I am over it, although
it left a mark. I see my shrink on tuesday ;)
Just to put in my two cents worth ...
I have always used a non-pro version and have been quite satisfied. However I didn't upgrade XWD5 to XWD6 as I expected it to be covered in Xtreme. (I know, Kate Moir said it wouldn't be in the non-pro version). As a non-professional user (and a non-pro user), I find that the upgrade to pro is just about attainable, and will very likely switch to XDP6, which as mentioned puts more money in Xara's pocket, and puts me on the Pro upgrade path every year, and so puts even more money in Xara's pocket.
I really don't want to miss out on the added functionality since the difference between pro and non-pro is now quite wide, I suppose you could say that I'm a software junkie, but Xara is the only software I'd even consider paying $100 for ....
