3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
This is a repeatable bug for me. Create a button with 3 states (MouseDown being the extra state). Do all the normal things, have a shape and some text and I group each layer and soft group all three layers. View the button in the preview and it works just fine. Now try to make your button a navbar and I get the error message below. The crazy thing is if I create the same button in XWD6 and then make a navbar it works just fine. It even works fine in XDP6 if I copy and paste it in as a Xara Document.
See the attached file. The simple button can't be converted to a navbar for me.

Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
I take this back...it has nothing to do with the 3rd state. I can't convert ANY button to a navbar in XDP6.
Create a simple button.
Give it a link so that it previews as a button.
Select it and then click the button to make it a navbar.
You get the same error message as I did above.
Definitely a bug on two different machines, one running XP and the other Vista.

Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Hi all, same problem trying to create a nav bar. I also tried to open a button fron Xara pro 5 buttons gallery without success.
So with no buttons available in the Design gallery (not available in trial version even though I have bought and registred), is it possible to create a working navbar from scratch?

Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Eric I'm not sure what I'm doing differently than you, but the attached is your file with a new button add. The Create Navbar function worked without an error message.
I'm using Xara Designer Pro 6 on Vista Ultimate.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Bill, I too downloaded Eric's xar file and got the same message as him?
Would you please verify if you can import / open a button from the XXP5 button gallery to make a Navbar with.
Many thanks, Peter
PS I am using Windows 7 home premium 64 bit if that makes a difference.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Hi Bill,
Yup. From your button I can create the navbar without any problems. But can you create a navbar from mine?
I am having this problem on two separate machines. One is Vista (enterprise I would guess as it is a work computer) and the other is XP.
If I wasn't having the problem on two machines, I would think it was a problem with my setup.

Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Eric I cannot create a navbar from your button until I remove the soft group and select only the button on the MouseOff layer.
Pete, I'll need to do a test. I've never used the supplied templates. ;)
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Pete there is a bug in the Design Gallery. The problem is being looked into.
I have registered Designer Pro 6 yet get a message that the "Design is not included in the trial".
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Bill, re the navbar situation, if you create a button with grouped text, no mouseoff layer the navbar creation works, but not if there is a soft-grouped mouseoff layer?
Peter
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
The grouped shape and text to be used for a button/navbar must be on the MouseOff layer.
Select the group and then Create Navigation Bar.
After the navbar is created you can then begin making MouseOver and MouseDown layer images if you want.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Thanks for that Bill. I'll give it a try. However...this can't be how the software was meant to work.
This was my exact work flow.
On the MouseOff layer
Create rectangle and give it a color.
Create Center Justified Text and give it a color.
Select both and Ctrl+L and center them.
Press Ctrl+G to group them
Press Ctrl+C to copy
Open layer gallery and select MouseOver layer
Press Ctrl+Shift+V to paste in place.
Drill down in the group (within the Layer gallery) to the rectangle
Select a different color.
Select the whole button again
Press Ctrl+C to copy
Select MouseOver layer again
Press New and name the new layer MouseOff and make sure that it is selected
Press Ctrl+Shift+V to paste in place.
Drill down in the group (within the Layer gallery) to the rectangle
Select a different color.
Drag select all of the buttons (info bar shows 3 groups on 3 layers)
Press Ctrl+Alt+G to soft group.
Press the Create Navagation Bar button
And the error comes up.
If that isn't the right way to do it, then I would like to know what the right way is.

Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Eric I don't use the web page features so we have already gone past my ability to assist. ;)
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
In Eric's example, I removed the SG and selected the mouseoff layer, then I was able to create a navbar without errors.
This is slightly different to WD6.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Steve,
Does that mean that the soft groups are no longer necessary?

Same problem here. The error message comes up as soon as I try to add a mouseover state, although I have a button + text group on each layer and softgrouped them as required.
Removing the SG and selecting the mouseoff layer does not help. You do get a navbar without errormessage, but unfortunately without any mouseover state.
Hope somebody can spot our mistake...

Hubert
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
This isn't a mistake Hubert. It has to be a bug. The fact that it works on some peoples machines and not on others seems strange though.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
I'm inclined to agree so I've reported it.

No, the Soft Group mechanism is absolutely vital for NavBars and your workflow looks exactly right.
There have not been any changes with respect to NavBars between WD6 and XDP6 - it is meant to work in exactly the same way in XPD6 as it did in WD6.
I will look into this (bug #7762).
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Unfortunately, NavBar creation from designs with more than one state is broken in the first Designer 6 release version. :( This will be fixed as quickly as possible.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Thanks Martin, good news.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
The bug is fixed, so things will work with the next patch release. Sorry about the inconvenience caused by this problem.
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
Great news Martin. And amazingly fast work finding and correcting the bug.:)
Re: 3 State Navbar bug in XDP6
I too appreciate the news that the bug has been fixed. Thank you.
