WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
I get the above when I try to navigate my folders via "Add folder to gallery" to incorporate the template pack I bought for XX5 into WD6. I've submitted the log it offers before it totally crashes. I'm on Windows 7 - anyone else experience this?
Update: uninstalled and downloaded latest version 6.0.0.12008. That now crashes in the same place, but less gracefully - just get Windows 'program has stopped working' error now. Also, can't register online now with the program complaining it can't establish a connection
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
I also get "Can't establish a connection" when trying to update although I can download it manually.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
From the WD6 Help..
Quote:
Update program
This checks online for any available program updates.
Firstly, you are shown a screen which tells you whether there is a major new version of Web Designer that you could upgrade to. Then, if you've registered the program with Xara, an automatic update process will start which will check for any free program updates which are available. If there is an update available it is automatically downloaded and then Xara Web Designer 6 is closed and the update is installed. The program is then restarted automatically for you.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
what can you do if your still on the XWD6 trial and this happens ?
Apart form registering it, which I plan to do anyway, just being tight in getting my last three weeks of it free:)
Can I download the updated version ?
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
You can download the latest program version trial from xara.com

Xara don't charge by the week for licensed software you know ;)

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Thanks for the reply Sledger, I was talking about the remaining three weeks of my trial.
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Yes I know you were ;)
Basically, if you have decided to buy WD6, waiting until the trial expires is of zero value benefit.
Note that installing the updated release will not extend your trial to another 30 days.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
I downloaded the latest version from Xara today and I am still getting the problem, only now its happening much faster.
I try to import an image from C drive and that bloody pop up stares at me.
Now I am worrying about this unhandleable problem, is it going to plague me when I do buy it ?
I'll contact Xara support with the error code from the pop up and see what they say.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Still waiting, now I can't use XWD at all.
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Not to worry - just like drought breaking rains, the longer you wait the less time there is before they arrive ;)
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
ok I could not wait for the Rains,I through up some silver iodide and created my own solution;))
Registry, damn reg was at fault. I was thinking 0x00000000 means no code number so therefore maybe it was not lovely, fluffy, cuddly XWD but my not so fluffy registry.
And the good peeps at Xara support were probably rolling their eyes waiting for me to realise it!
I ran Tweak Now powerpack 2010 and cleaned up my registry a lil bit. Backing it up before hand duh!!!
Now my Xara, no its not yours its mine! is working as if it were almost alive.
Runs off to check it still is... phew! yes it is.
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Not for me. Ran CCleaner and Perfectspeed PC Optimizer to clean up my registry and it's still failing as reported. Very strange!
Edit: Played around a little more and it consistently happens only when I go anywhere near the top level of "My Computer" or use the folder dropdown list on the open/save dialogue box which would similarly expose the top level. I find I can use the up folder icon or chose a displayed folder, even use the Libraries or Desktop - just seems to crash when it has to display my drives. So at least I have a sort of workround in that I know what not to do, but still shouldn't be like this.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
For the time I was unable to use XWD I was frustrated too, so I know what you are going through.
The only reason I checked my registry was annoyance at Xara being so slow to reply. And even then I was reluctant to touch the Reg. But I searched my favourite tech forum (http://forums.techguy.org/) for which reg editor to use.
The concensus seemed to be "Don't do it" but I had little choice I had to get XWD up and running again.
So after going through lots and lots of posts I found out that Tweak Now (mentioned above) was the less risky to use. And so I backed up my reg and ran the software.
For me it worked, removing a rogue registry entry that was preventing XWD from working properly. I have no idea what entry it was,( I suspect an Adobe file) the list of recommended removals was quite long.
Had it not worked I was going to reinstall my OS, I would not have been a happy bunny.
If you do get a solution for your situation can you please post it here so others that come along might get help?
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
This is really frustrating.
Still waiting for Xara response.
In the meantime, I purchased Tweak Now based on Dr Who's post, ran & "repaired" registry.
Still no go.
Was able to open existing file (made with XWD5) via explorer, but when I previewed the page, mouse over layer is completely visible and links are broken.
Ran uninstall:repair. No help.
So now, besides not being able to open files properly, I have to wonder if the same problem is causing other errors or if I have a real mess.
Thankfully, XWD5 still works, even though I nearly had a coronary because it did crash and I got the DEP message... never had that before. So I added it to the execption list, along with XWD6.
Ugh!
If support ever comes back with an answer and that answer says nothing can be done, reinstall windows, I'm going to explode.

PBready and JDarchitecture can you tell me what computers you use for xwd6 please ?

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Toshiba satellite here and I shall assume JD has a differant one too.
I ask because my xwd has gone back to not working with exactly the same faults I thought I fixed.
If we all had the same computer then maybe it was a hardware fault.
I was on the point of re installing vista then JD posted and now I think we may have a bug and hopefully Xara is ignoring us because they know about it too and don't want to say anything until they can fix it.
Thats being optimistic.
So I will have to go back to my trial of XWD5 and hope the fix arrives before the trial runs out.
If I had one I'd kick the cat!!!!
BTW did you get a Send Error Report pop up too before it crashed ?
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
I'm on a Gateway MT2423, 2gig, Vista HP SP2
WD5 worked fine. IMO, it would be a cop out to blame a particular machine for the problem.
I've sent the error report every time. Xara would be foolish to approach this as an isolated problem.
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
no fix to the specific problem, but at least one other member thinks that any 0x00000000 is definitely a bug:

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Thanks for that post Handrawn. XWD5 worked fine for me too. If it is a bug, its only a matter of time until this small band of posters grows. I wonder at what that count has to be to get Xara to get involved!!??
I am in the process of backing up all my stuff ready to reinstall Windows Vista! I think now I will wait a couple of days for Xara to at least say SOMETHING.
I have the UK office number(01442 350000) so I can phone them Monday, you never know I might find something out, at least draw their attention to it.
wish I had a cat

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Xara is a very small company - like as not your issue is in a queue, they will get round to it as soon as they can, but being a small company they can only do so much at once and everything has to wait its turn..
I have always found them very helpful...
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Yes small companies do have a hard time and tend to be more customer orientated even if the client base has to queue, the service you get is far better. However I thought Xara had been taken over by Magix last year ?
I hope they are not a massive corpororation that put money first and last.
I tend to vent my feelings here a little as do most :) I promise I will not march on the company waving a huge protest plackard and chain myself to their office door until this bug is fixed LOL
Tempted as I am:)
Its such a damn good lil program, the only one that I have really got my head around and want to use 24/7!!!!!
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
AFAIK: Magix only service Magix products.
Ownership of one company by another does not mean direct involvement, nor does it necessarily mean a blank cheque. Its just one of those things companies do to make money, which is what they are [in reality] for ;)
In this case it is symbiotic I believe..
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
I hope your right.
BTW xwd works ok on my netbook win xp so I think its just a vista bug. Unless there was a bad batch of downloads at the time we got ours...yes I am guessing now, clutching at straws and hoping tomorrow Xara will get back to us. Waiting for Rains as Sledger said:)

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Yeah this happened to me too, sent crash info to Xara every time, about 15 crashes or so.
Then I switched to the old interface using Ctrl Alt Shift and S key and I no longer get the crashes.:)
Can't remember where I read to try that, but it worked, and I like the Grey interface colour better anyway.
(Running Windows 7 64 bit on a Intel 8400 overclocked to 3900 Mhz with 8 Gig memory)

Are anyone experiencing this problem also running an OS theming application like 'Window Blinds' or similar?

Workaround works for me as well. Using Ctrl Alt Shift S to switch to the grey interface allows me to navigate freely up and down the save dialogue no problem. Even after quitting that dialogue i.e not saving, and switching back via the key combo to the new interface, I can now navigate my folders with equanimity. Something then in the new interface upsets some setups.

Nope, I'm a plain vanilla kind of guy.
Ctrl Alt Shift and S worked for me too! Thanks Zenarcher. Where did this solution come from?
Clearly a xara bug, not a local machine issue.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
If you are having issues with the Xara Dark interface the issue is more likely to be with the CodeJock skin and not the Xara code (which is the light gray interface).

How is this relevant to the average user?
I have no idea what codejock is. XWD6 is black out of the box.
Are you suggesting that it's not Xara's problem?
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
Bill
that would be as in:
http://www.codejock.com/ ....?
good reason I think for giving the user an proper interface option for the skin...
-
Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
JD I am suggesting it is not Xara's problem as in their code. It is a problem in the use of a 3rd party software to give the program a "skin". Xara developers will not be able to identify and correct an issue where the 3rd party software is not compatible with how some users have configured their systems. They must rely upon the company CodeJock to identify and correct the issue. This is the most likely reason for the delay from Xara responding to support tickets for this issue. They are most likely waiting for response from CodeJock.
I have been running Web Designer 6 on Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Home Premium. The skin has not introduced any problems on those systems. This leads me to think there is some software running on some people's systems that doesn't work well with the CodeJock skinning software as the problem seems to be resolved by using the standard Xara light gray interface (in other words turning off the skin).
Unfortunately using the standard Xara light gray interface also contains some bugs that may introduce issues.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
I agree as there are so few members here with the same problem.
And I have been having registry problems at the ame time.
BTW
I got a reply from Xara today asking what skin I used and OS and 32 or 64 bit machine.
They suggested using what Zenarcher told us
I did not tell them, I am being spiteful !
HAHAHA of course I told them .

It's still irrelevant to me. Xara chose to use codejock, not me. A company cannot sit back and blame one of their vendors.
Now you're saying the light skin has bug as well? So IT IS the xara code that has issues.
I can appreciate the fact that you know a lot about this stuff, but I don't need a xara apologist, I need solutions.
If you know so much because you are associated with xara, then own up to it. What I don't appreciate are shills who will not own up.
I don't appreciate being told that my machine is the problem.
I'm still having page/site preview issues. Mouseover layer does not display properly & links are broken.
There's one simple fact, XWD6 clearly has issues and is not ready for release.

I got the same email today and I did tell them I had already heard about that... not thanks to them.
The number of users having the problem is immaterial. First, you don't know how many are actually having the problem since you have no clue how many users use this forum.
Secondly, it's immaterial because the publisher must deal with the problem regardless.

Re: WD6 - Unhandleable unidentifiable exception in thread at 0x00000000
I think XWD is one of the best website makers I have come across and one of the cheapest.
So it has a few bugs, so does life but we get on with it.
The biggest and best thing going for XWD is this forum, without it lots and lots of struggling designers like myself would be lost .
My computer, like me, is getting on a bit so I expect it to go wrong and maybe clash with software from time to time.
I was dreading the thought of having to find another program and start from scratch again.
I was quite relieved to find out it was a bug or a bug of a bug, whateva.
Get a grip JD, deal with it or move on !
