Wife and I went for a walk in the yard and spotted a Hummingbird nest, I could not resist trying a shot. As with Xara, I am also new at digital photography. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I used a Cannon Xsi, 500mm Sigma Lens.

Very nice composition in the first photo Ontos.
Maybe a little increase in saturation. The attached image was made in Xtreme using clones of the original. An Elliptical Stained Glass Transparency with the center made 100% transparent and the outer portion 0% transparent. A Profile2 was applied to the elliptical transparency. I made the transparency settings to the first clone then I made two clones of the transparent clone.
Similar changes could be made using the Photo Tool and making changes to the levels. Although I used the clones with Stained Glass to darken the edges of the photo more than the center.
Wow that looks great Bill, I'll try using the tutorial you provided. Thanks allot, I will learn something new every day. :D
I hate to ask this of you Bill, I don't know the first thing about using Xara in photo editing. Would it be possible to give me a detailed tutorial on how you did that. I tried the stained Glass etc, didn't come out the same, I don't understand the use of Profile2 etc. :o
Ontos,
Great photo. Captured at the right moment.
Bill, the enhancement just added to the original.
Rupert
Hi Ontos,
I'll work up a mini-tutorial when I get home from work tomorrow morning. I just now woke up and it is about time to get ready to leave for work. (we need a sleepy eyed and before coffee smilie) ;)
@Rupert - Thanks. :)
Thank you so much Bill, I really appreciate it. :D
Thanks for the sleepy smilie Steve. (:| :D
Ontos I hope the attached wmv file explains what I did to enhance your photo.
Ontos if you have not already discovered the Xara Xone, there are about 10+ years of tutorials and workbooks there.
Gary Priester has covered all the tools and techniques available and always covers new features when a new version is released.
Gary Bouton has written the Xara Xtreme 5: Official Guide. Gary Bouton also moderates the Xara Xtreme 5: The Official Guide Book forum here at Talkgraphics.
That is absolutely fantastic, thank you so much. It seems so easy seeing how you did that and thank you for the information ref. Xara Xone, I've been there before and look through some of it. I guess I've used Photoshop so long I get myself confused with the different techniques. :D
You are very welcome Ontos. :)
Bill, great little video clip. I am starting to use the profile a lot more in fills (it opens up another field of options) now and you gave me another good example to add a profile to a clone. You certainly got a great effect on the photo.
Thanks for your time and effort.
Rupert.
Always glad to be of help Rupert. :)
I like the depth it gives the image - thanks for the video explanation Bill :)
Bill, with your tip I used it with a bleach fill (instead of the Stain glass) to lighten the centre of a dark photo. With good results.
Rupert
Thanks John.
Rupert that is very nice to hear. It is always a pleasure when someone can take an idea and expand it to a new use. :)
Beautiful shots Ontos. I wish my photos were so clear and detailed as yours.
Regards
Su
Thanks Su, I'm just learning how to use the DSLR camera. Thank God for image stabilization.
