Both popup and link from the same text
I want to make a better design for http://www.bellangegalleri.com/utstallningar.html, but I want to keep the same behavior. It works with javascript. When you have the cursor on a name, a picture pops up. When you click on the same name, you get another page. How can I do this in XWD?
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
I needed the same thing on this site http://www.marciles.com/ What I did was on the roll-over layer add an additional thumbnail slightly different in color, positioned exactly over the original thumbnail, that was linked to the destination page.

Re: Both popup and link from the same text
I was trying to remember how to do this for another use. This is where I came out.
Put the mouse over image, on a new pop up layer (instead of mouse over). Then link the mouse off text to the pop up layer using the Mouse Over action.
Link whatever you want on the pop up layer to wherever you want to link it.
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Yes cursor, thank you, exactly so. Gwpriester, is this the tutorial to cursors illustration? I shall try this tomorrow. Excuse me if I response so late, I am so occupied.
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
You're occupied too! ;) :D
basically, apply an OnMouseOver assignment, and a Link assignment (both in the Web Properties dialogue)
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Cursor, I try this now. I have the text and I imported the first image. I have the image selected and the layer gallery is open. Please, would you lead me step by step?
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Can you attach a .web file to your next post? :) That might speed things along.

Re: Both popup and link from the same text
This image on side 2 belongs to Amie and I shall construate a page for this name too, but it is not ready.
I wish that all the pictures will pop up at the same place as you see on the original site.

Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Note: Click the "Tillbakablick" button to access the modified page (in Preview).
This is what I did:- Eliminated the spaces from your text links. Apparently you wanted them to be centered on eachother. I changed them to center justified text, then used the Arrange > Alignment dialog to horizontally center them.
- I created three pop-up layers and placed a photograph on each.
- I added a default graphic to layer MouseOff. This is the graphic that will show when the mouse cursor is not over any of the text links.
- I selected each text link, and did Web Properties > Link > Link to page [_page 2_]. You should change this to the appropriate page name, after you create them.
- I selected each text link, and did Web Properties > Mouse-over > Show popup layer [_name_].
Note that when you add links to the text, they assume the settings shown at Web Properties > Website. In your case, this underlines the text and shows a white mouse-over effect. That may not be what you want.
I left the first link as a text link, but changed each of the two links underneath to a grouped rectangle+text. Here's why:- First, it eliminates the default text link underline attribute. It also kills the white mouse-over effect.
- Second, it improves the pop-up display by not intermittently showing the default (Xara) image as the mouse moves up/down through the list of choices. To see what I mean, move your mouse cursor over the top link. Now drag slowly down to the second link. As soon as your cursor is off the text link, the default (Xara) graphic pops-up. The visual transition from the second link to the third is much improved because there are underlying rectangles that preclude display of the default (Xara) graphic.
I hope that's clear enough. :)
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Thank you cursor! You are great!
But I have difficulties anyway.
"I created three pop-up layers and placed a photograph on each."
This sounds easy. It is easy to create pop-up layer. But how you place a photograoh on them?
EDITED MESSAGE Ok, I could figure it out self. Right-click on the name, Mouse-over, Show pop-up layer.
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Once your pop-up layers are created, click (select) your photo. Move your mouse cursor to the Layer Gallery and highlight (click on) the name of the pop-up layer. Next click on the Move button at the top of the Layer Gallery. If you'll peek at the status line in the lower-left corner of your application window, you'll see that your selected photo has been moved to the pop-up layer. :)
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
:) Thank you, cursor, it works!

Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Here's an example of what you are asking for. www.gwpriester.com It is my personal temporary site. My previous website was 7 years old and even I was getting bored with it. So until I figure out what I want to be when I grow up this will do.
The text on the main level links to four pop up layers. And the photos change on each popup layer.
The text repeats on the pop up layers but now is linked to outside web galleries.
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Yes. something like this, technically. It is very impressive to change the background to a stable foreground.

Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Everything was fine untill I added rectangles and grouped with the name. 4 names diappeared in the preview, I don't know why. I see all of them in XWD and all have the same properties.

Re: Both popup and link from the same text
One of the name was ungrouped in my message before. Now I corrected this, so B.B. disappeared too. Please, answer me, why? The invisible names has exactly the same properties as the visible.
I tried both with transparent rectangle and background-coloured rectangle (I used colour-picer). The names are invisible, as well.
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
What happened?
Now I tried the names only, without rectangles. They became unvisible too!:o Even if I change the colour, the size, the position. Mysterious!
Ps. I can manage this. I clone the only group which is visible and change the text and the web-properties. But anyway, I should like to know the cause of this phenomenon.

Re: Both popup and link from the same text
Hi Hymer. :)
Note that you are putting some of those text buttons on the MouseOver layer. They need to be on the MouseOff layer. If you'll make MouseOff locked and invisible, then you'll see the five buttons that are on the wrong layer.
It might be a good idea to make the background rectangle for your text the same color as your backbround.
Also, if you'll add a background rectangle to each of your popup graphics (so that it blocks the underlying layers, then I think you'll have a more pleasing presentation. :)
Re: Both popup and link from the same text
:) Thank you, cursor! The names are visible now!

Hi Cursor,
This little tidbit was huge for me being able to understand how layers work and how to link them up correctly. I've been struggling with a relatively simple task of getting many pictures to pop up correctly in a framed window. It's a simple task really once you understand it....but I finally got it.
Thanks very much....there is such a wealth of information here it's incredible. Many of you good folks tend to skip steps just because you know this stuff so well.....but eventually those get filled in as people keep asking questions.
Thanks again,
Ed.....:-)
