OK, need help please... :Text repel.
I am designing a site and working with layers. I will do my best to explain. I have created a seamless background that is great. The next step I placed a flash header at the top - in a seperate layer. The next thing - using the rectangle tool I made the body under the header - then I added text etc. I went in and placed a graphic that I want to have repelled from the text. When I try to repel the text around the image it does not work. Does it have to be on the same layer to work?
Second: I would like to the have the body layer locked and other aspects so it will not move. Is there a way to do this??

Yo ... X ... dude ... attach your .web file for review. :D
Happy 4th of July (for those who care).

Is there a way to place all layers in a folder?

Re: OK, need help please...
I don't understand what you want. Again, but in more sober terms, attach your .web file to your next post. It will definitely help to resolve your design issues. :)

Re: OK, need help please...
I am not going to attach the .web file for a site design. I will for a template for everyone at a later time..

Re: OK, need help please...
Provided the repelling object (your image) is on top (in front) of the text (or on a layer above the text) it should repell the text.

Re: OK, need help please...
The layer with the image is above the text. The text and image are the seperate abnd the only things on the layers. I have tried now with a .jpg and a .wmf and they will not repel. I have copy/pasted the text from a .txt file (arial).
I am impressed with this program but there are some things I am finding more complex than they should be. Folders for individual layers for example - are they available?

Re: OK, need help please...
Corrected issue... I went into Xara Xtreme 5 and did it perfectly - gives you more options. I like the layer layout better in 5, then copy/pasted back to XWD - boom-pow! Perfection. I am obviously learning this and it is a user error...

Re: OK, need help please...
X-Newbie,
Here's some help from the Xara Xtreme Help File:
Note that single lines of text do not respond to repelling objects, only text areas and text columns do.
Note that you cannot make an object both repelling and anchored. If you apply both to an object, anchoring takes priority and the repelling attribute of the object is ignored (it will not repel).
Also note that the command is "Repel text under..." Some past users have missed the obvious, so please note that the text must be under the repelling object.
IHTH,
Harry

This is a redundant step. You don't need to copy/paste from X5 to WD, you can do Web Export / Preview right in X5. ;)

Re: OK, need help please...
I really like WD but it seems like XX5 works a little cleaner. I am going to continue working with WD and see which works best. Thanks for the information. I was copy/pasting a paragraph before but I had to be doing something funky for it not to work.
I still have had no answers on the folders question.

Re: OK, need help please...
I for one don't understand what you mean by 'all layers in a folder'. I can think of a few things that you could mean but I don't want to speculate. Can you please be more specific?
Thanks,
Eric

Re: OK, need help please...
What I feel would be great and maybe it is there - not sure. If there was a folder option like in PhotoShop or other graphic programs that allow you to take certain layers place them in a folder. The selected layers within these folders are easily moved around if the folder is selected. This would also allow the user to keep things more in an organized style.

Repel issue - attached file - need some help please
I am attaching a quick file I just made to try and see what I am doing wrong with Repel in now both X5 and WD. The issue is when I have an arch sometimes it will work to repel and others it will not.
I would also like to know if there is a book on these 2 softwares available from Xara or Magix...
Please let me know what I have done incorrectly.

Re: Repel issue - attached file - need some help please
X-Newbie,
The answer is the same as I posted previously.
The text in your file is a single text line. Click on one of them and look at the status line on the lower left to verify. I know it looks like multiple lines of text to you, but it isn't to XX or XWD. Copy the text and then paste it into a 'text column' or 'text area' to make the Text Repel feature work consistently for you.
IHTH,
Harry

Re: OK, need help please...
OK X,
That is what I thought you might be talking about. The answer is that in Xara Xtreme Pro v5 there is something like that, only they don't call it a folder, they call it a page. You can have multiple layers per page on a multi-page document. As you can see in the example picture I have two pages, one called index and the other called products. Each page has several sub layers. Again this functionality is only available in the Pro version. The non pro version does not have this functionality.

I will work on this and see what I can do.

Re: OK, need help please...
Set the units for your page in Options>>Units
Oh - I see you removed your question while I was posting. I'll assume you found the answer. :)

Yes it does!

Re: OK, need help please...
My bad Kieth,
I was thinking that the non-pro version didn't have any updates to the layer gallery and that it looked just like it did in previous versions or how XWD looks now. I guess that it was just the drill down of individual layers that I was thinking about (that XXP has and XX does not). Sorry if I gave out wrong information.
