Hear, hear!
That would be so cool and useful. My current project would benefit tremendously from such a tweak.
I hope Covoxer would like it as much as we do, then we could get it. ;)
You guys  - just keep squeezing that $29.95/$49.95 don't you :D:D
I'm not sure what exactly do you want. A sliding animation?
I've told my colleagues that I have this fantastic software for only $30 and on top of that I get almost personal scripting guru from Ukraine for free. They always laugh! :D
I will pay more for a pro version of WD/Xtreme if it has support for scripting, makes interaction chores easier and if covoxer stays on board to provide these scripts.
I guess so...:)
Similar thing was mentioned by me in the tweaks thread here. That is a bit different than the one introduced by nickydude.
However, nickydude's example IMO could have more practical uses, at least I would really need that kind of thing especially if I could have many of those on a single page and if I could determine the direction of the movement (up, down, left, right). Also I would like to decide the state of the said feature; whether the thing is open or closed when the page is initially loaded.
The main idea is to have a rather lengthy content partially hidden, but available for the user to expand (and later contract again). Seeing the movement explains the mechanism to the user much better that just abruptly showing/hiding stuff (on/off).
I can imagine this kind of thing to be difficult to implement on current WD, but it would be nice if you could consider such interactions for future releases.
Thanks for being here and reading posts, covoxer. That keeps our hopes high that these fabulous apps of Xara will develop to be even better. :)
Rather like nickydude's request, I wonder if the feature that you can see on this MS-Windows 7 FAQ page is possible, where the answers are expandable/collapsible: Link.
I am working on putting together a FAQ page and I would like to incorporate this feature, because it's much easier for the visitor to scan the various questions if the answers are (temporarily) invisible. If it's possible in XWD, that is. :D
Yeh! Me too! Me too! :D
It may even then be able to be used for dropdown menus??
John - your comments suggested to me that perhaps when visiting Nick's example page you missed seeing the effect he was asking about. Please see my attached screen shot that clarifies where the effect can be initiated.

There are endless possible visual effects that can be created with JS. You can find a lot of them implemented among the billions of the existing web pages. It is possible to create almost any effect with the WD, but you have to learn JS and write it. Or ask JS programmer to do it. Or find available code to use. This is true for any web authoring tool, not only WD. You can't expect any program to be boundled with all possible effects.
We provide quite powerful mechnism of creating custom effects without programming (by means of popups and rollovers), and we may create some additional effects, which are considered as wery usefull, in form of snippets (tweaks). But you should not expect us develop anything you'll ever ask for. This is simply impossible.
I hope you understand.
I think most of us really do understand. We also appreciate the 'tweaks' you have made for us.
Ultimately it would be great if javascript savy members of the Xara-WD community started offering their own tweaks. Certainly there has been some of that already and it is appreciated. I wonder if Xara might consider supporting those efforts by developing enhanced ways of managing tweaks. I'm thinking it would be ideal if it was even easier to add the tweaks to the program. A first step could be to make Xara's own tweaks available for more automatic install in a manner like how the 'get fills...' feature of the Fills Gallery goes out over the internet and installs the additional content. The next step might then be some form of 'tweaks manager' (like the Dreamweaver Extensions Manager) that would make it simpler to install tweaks from other sources.

Yes, but if you want to leave open/visible some of the answers (to reread or compare some of them a little later) popups are not very handy (even the sticky ones).
Anyway, I also read your later post that you cannot keep on developing customized scripts. I appreciate that and I certainly don't want to abuse your willingness to help us out.
I can take "no' for an answer: if you (and others at Xara) believe that users' request/suggestions are not useful in expanding XWD's functionality for more than just a few users, just tell us. But that would mean that it's still OK to ask, wouldn't it? :)
Thanks again for all your help, it's very much appreciated!
Personally, I'm going to start learning and working with javascript. If a number of serious users do this, a fabulous pool of routines can be created. As Ross suggests, it would be a fabulous thing if Web Designer offered a convenient Tweaks Manager.
I'm not sure but I think you thought I was asking for that panel slide effect to be created within WD. I'm not, I have all the javascript and css to create that effect and wondered if that effect could be added just like I added it to the example site.
I don't want you to add everything, just is it possible using ready made scripts as I'm under the impression that WD pages are static (absolute positioning) pages and the rest of the page won't slide down when the javascript is applied.
I hope this clears things a bit, I don't want it added to WD, just can it be done using existing scripts?
:)
Here is a great source of free javascript:cool:

Spot on steve!!!!
After the first one has squeezed it, then there is a line up trying to squeeze what is already squeezed!Quote:

John, you do an amazing job. Thanks.

I've now tried this and it doesn't work, or at least I can't get it to work. Here are all the files including the .web if anyone wants to give a go.
A tip: There are some great JavaScript libraries and also frameworks available, which offers such effects for free. Most of them are doing this with using unobtrusive JavaScript. Personally, I like the Dojo Toolkit. Another popular JavaScript library is jQuery.
Wikipedia knows the rest of the available JavaScript libraries.
Unobtrusive JavaScript means
- "Separation of functionality (the "behavior layer") from a Web page's structure/content and presentation
- Best practices to avoid the problems of traditional JavaScript programming (such as browser inconsistencies and lack of scalability)
- Progressive enhancement to support user agents that may not support advanced JavaScript functionality"

Remi, can such javascripts be modified and added to WD as tweak placeholders?
Most of us want easily drag and drop these things on our WD pages.
A placeholder is simply a dialog box which allows you to insert JavaScript or other things. So, everything is possible. It depends more on the Webdesigner himself.
If you earn money with your website, then you should be able to pay a Webdeveloper for helping you out. Otherwise you have to learn it by yourself or have to wait for a member who is willing to help.
I don't know if it's possible to create them as "tweaks", because I don't use XWD and don't know much about this tweaks-mechanism.
