here is the wire frame
Looks strikingly like the photo floating around the forum--sans clothes. You sure you didn't use the bitmap tracer? :-)
Hello ThePrawn,
Thanks for the complement. Same shot used to draw the picture.
I took a little artistic license tho... She looks so good without the clothes... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
John - I've never xara-drawn a person myself so I feel a little awkward passing on my comments. I find the highlights distracting. It may be that they are too white. That little criticsm made I do highly commend you for what you've achieved with such a intimidating project.
Regards, Ross
And how did you create that funky background? Very groovy!
Regards, Ross
Hi Ross,
Thanks to the comments and compliments. Looking at it again, the highlights are a bit ovewhelming I will tone em down and see if it is any better.
On the funky background, I just played around with some fractal fills/tranparencies. here is the .xar with just the background and shadow layers. The background is 3 rectangles each on it's own layer.
The shadow is a little more complex. I took the 3 rectangles, made a bitmap copy of them, then cut out the lady's silloette. I used this to develop the wall shadow.
See .xar...
okay Ross,
Does this look a little better?
Sure does John! Oh and that background .xar looks very cool with just the shadow. Thanks for posting it - neato to see how you did it. (I'll have to use those alt-rainbow fills more often).
Regards, Ross
Great work John http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
Give my best to your model.
Looks good so far John! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif "Vector" people are a HUGE challenge. I'm still working on the Space Being, believe it or not!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Ross, Ed, And Richard,
Thank you very much for the kind comments. I will pass on the compliments to my wonderous model.
John I struggle with people and have only posted one drawing in this catagory but if I can make a few suggestion your lady lacks depth around the eyes and would think more shading is required as eyes are 3D if you know what I mean.
I think also her mouth needs more definition especially around her teeth and towards the back of her mouth it is too light or maybe this is just because of the size of the jpeg?
I am sure if you keep working at it she will turn out a real stunner.
Hello Albacore,
Thanks for the 2 observations. Looking again at the drawing I have to agree with both points. I also need to get here skin a little more definition. Most skin is serval different hues, with blushes, veins and all the rest.
It is a starting point, and further than I have reached before giving up in frustration.
Okay, I worked on this a little more. What do you think now. A little better?
Hey John,
Looking good! I wish I could do people. i tried drawing from a photo of my Dad once but gave up.
Well done.
Carol,
Thank you for the praise. It is heartfully felt.
Drawing people is extremely hard. This is my first time it has succeeded as well as it has.
John,
I think the brightness of the eyes made the picture ... and now they're light and faded. Give the girl her eyes back http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
Hi Ed,
Just for you, I changed the reflection on Diane's glasses. I also have been working on several other things. I think I have Diane's face almost done.
I am still working on her lovely neck and chest. I gave my lady a quick covering. She was getting little chilled. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I have a lot more work to do on the blouse.
Nice work on your illustration, John. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
As mentioned in the thread before - drawing people is probably one of the trickiest ventures you can get in to. Especially, if you want to get some of their personality in there as well.
It is a friendly inviting illustration!
Nicely done!
Hi John,
I really like how each update improves upon the last, and looks more and more like your lovely Diane.
Looking good John http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
Hello Risto, Bill and Ed,
Thanks so much for the praise. Today is my anniverary and I do not plan on having much time to work on the drawing at all tonight... i will pass on the priase to diane, my lovely wife and model.

Happy Anniversary Big Guy ... give my best to the Mrs.
This last image you posted looks like it's really coming together John. Softer and more glowing. Very nice!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Happy Anniversary to you both!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Hi Ed, & Richard,
Thank you... I will pass on the good wishes.
What is a princess without her pearls...
still need more work on the neck/chest and blouse.
This gets better and better. Good going, John.
Gotta some time today... Hope I can get lots more done. Boy, getting the highlights and shadows right on the chest is a pain! Just starting on the left side...
I think Diane is done, Now for the blouse. This is gonna be tough.
Nice work John
Thanks Ed. I appreciate the nice comments. I think I will post the final wireframe once this picture is done.
This is as far as I could get his weekend. Have to work in the morning...
The blouse looks really superb John.
Can I make one tiny suggestion dealing with the hair??
The rest of Diane looks really soft but the hair looks hard to me. Is there a way for you to go back and put a 1 pt. feathers over the entire thing?? I think that may leave it so it's not so blurry but soften the edges up a bit. Take the hair and drag it off to the side, ungroup all of it, select all of it and then type in "1" in the feather box and hit Enter. You may see it just slightly soften the edges to where it gives it that soft halo that hair has, especially hair that is freely flowing as her's is.
Just a suggestion! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Hi Richard,
That sounds like a good idea. I will try and soften her hair a bit. (In real life she likes to wear a helmet head. Enough hair spray to keep her hair from blowing in a SD wind, +70 mph) http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Hi John,
Looking good! I like the detail in the blouse.
hi Bill,
I think the blouse is the hardest part. Trying to get realistic white shadows and white highlights on a white blouse is not as easy as it seems... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
John, it must be like trying to draw the polar bear in the snow storm, and have the bear visible http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
"it must be like trying to draw the polar bear in the snow storm, and have the bear visible" - Bill
Yep... Although I barely made her bare. But, my step daughter got all upset that I posted a picture of her mother without any clothes on.
Personally, she looks pretty good that way to me. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
