Attach blogger blog to website?
I have a website that I want to add a blog page to.
Has anyone done this yet?
The issue seems to be that I need to put my menu at the top of the blogger code, but either because of the code that's generated by XWD or the code generated by blogger, it won't work.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
Could you use an <iframe> in a placeholder for the blogger feed?
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
Coffe cup have a Blog app called Flash Blogger that might work. I haven't tried it myself but I think others have used Coffee cup products with XWD.
I am intending to start my own blog at some point but I had thought to just link to it from a button.

Here's the link in case you're interested in checking it out:
http://www.coffeecup.com/flash-blogger/
In these cases it looks like the CC software creates the files needed, then gives you an HTML snippet you insert into your Web Designer page that displays the results.

Since when do you need CoffeCup software, in order to get a Weblog?
Free (and very good) Blog systems are discussed here.

Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
Currently you can only use websites exported from Xara Web Designer with a static layout. It's not possible to adjust the length of your site, as you would need with a blog. There is the workaround with a <iframe>, as Steve (sledger) mentioned, but if you don't like it or don't trust iframes, then you can't use Xara Web Designer for this task.

Don't know how other blogging software handles page size, but the CC one gives you a scroll bar when the text gets too large for the current page size. All a matter of taste. :)

Why iframe? The <div> may be just enough.

You mean by scrolling within this div - the same like Spinny is recommending?

Erm, you can scroll anything that you can put into html within a <div>. Inline frames should be used only in case when the content must stay as a separate html file. Most often this is due to the content located and managed on the other site e.t.c.
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
Erm, I know that.
My question was, whether I have understood you correctly, that you're recommending the same way as Spinny.
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
You don't actually need something like CoffeeCup Blogger to use in this program, but it does work well with it and I tend to use it, because it is so easy to design it to fit exactly how you want it on the page.
The blog content is also very easily updated and can be done by just updating three or four files, instead of the whole site.
As already mentioned, it is a matter of taste, but I for one, am extremely pleased that the CC gadgets work so well in XWD.
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
If you look at www.bobbyharris.com you can see the BLOG link and what's happening.
I tried putting <DIV> tags on either side of the code in the placeholder but it didn't create scroll bars.
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
spoondolix, could you also post a link to such a website (XWD, integrated with CoffeCup Blogger) for us, please?
Thanks

Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
Something that just occurred to me, so I figured I'd 'fess up: if you use the CC blogging software the content of your blog won't be visible to search engines. It's stored in an external file and loaded by the flash display code so the spiders won't see it.
Figured that would be important if you wanted your words of wisdom to show up in Google.
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
It would seem to me that if the blog were your own, and you become (or expect to become) reasonably fluent in managing your site, blog entries should simply be entered as formatted text on a web page. If you want to run your entries chronologically/sequentially, then lengthen the page and simply add the text.
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
That is a very good point. What is blogging except making content for one kind of web page? The distinction probably doesn't need to be all that distinct, does it?
Re: Attach blogger blog to website?
With Blogger I can send an email with my entry and it automatically gets added to the blog.
The way I did it before with my DW site was to add the top menu to my blogger.com account settings and it automatically updated whenever a new post was made.
I just don't see a way to get my menu to add to the HTML in the template because XWD is adding so much stuff at the top and it doesn't allow me to expand the page on demand.

I have tested this with XWD and it works, but I do not have a website up yet using it.
I used the blog structure as in my current home web site. It looked just the same in my test with XWD.

Ok, no problem.
