Help, more advanced users needed!
Hi people, i run my own business called Viking Communications,
I want to get part of my logo to spin (the viking head) whilst leaving another part stationary, but having bought the program i realise that i am out of my depth.. i wonder if someone who is more ofay with the program could do it for me???
i have attached the logo, all i want is the writing to stay put and the head to spin arround anticlockwise?

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
Welcome to Talkgraphics VCL.
Have you had a try at doing it yourself at all? If so, perhaps you could post your results and we could help you from there.
If at any time you need to redo it - for an e-mail or for a different look, it would be a lot better if you knew how (especially since you said you have bought the programme). As programmes go, it's quite simple once you understand the initial concept.

We have Paypal to provide an instant secure payment if you want to do the job and your cost is fair..
I have tries to use the program but trying to follow the instruction i have found elsewhere on the site seems to confuse me only more.. I have Corel Paintshop Professional edition 11 and cannot fathom this whole vector thing at all!
Unfortunately im the sort of person who leans through being shown and then being supervised whilst i try... not the sort who can learn from a book...
I never intended to free load but 3 hours of trying and 3 hours of failing to do anything other than acomplish a red dot on a page that seems to disapear when i try anything else is just infuriating...

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
Just try the basics first - Then when you get that done we'll address Xara 3D6.
Instead of using PSP use the copy of Xara Webster that came with Xara 3D6. Open the VCL graphic. Now draw round the helmet graphic using the shape editor tool to draw straight lines from point to point. If you move the cursor next to an already drawn line segment, it will turn into an arrow. You can then click and drag the line segment into a curve. Once you close the shape it will go black. Left click on the crosshatched area on the colour bar to make it transparent. This will make it a lot easier to adjust the line segments to match the outline of the helmet. Once you have the shape complete, left click on a colour on the colour line to reapply a coloured fill. You now have your basic shape to cut and paste into 3D6.

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
Webster? i don't have that???
-
Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
It should have come with the Xara 3D6 CD as standard. Was it not with it?

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
So it has to look something like this? ;)
About 35 minutes work, and I made some mistakes on the way
because it has been a while again since I did this, and am a "dumb"
contructionworker, I am sure you can figure this out, if only to save face now ;)

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
Nice job ankhor. Is that using ss-kalm's method with Xara 3D v6? I didn't know you could put bitmaps into that program. (if that's what you did).

Welcome to TG VCL
Where did you get your copy of Xara3D from?
Webster is supplied for free with Xara3D when you buy it.

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
@Ankhor
Thanks, Nice Job. I should have read the original post better. I was going to spin the whole logo, where VCL only wanted the helmet spinning. Of course when you spin the helmet on it's own, the ovals in the background have to be rebuilt.
@Fred
You can use a bitmap as a background for 3D6 without a problem. You may have to resize the frame accordingly to stop it tiling though.

No i don't have the box for it yet (that could be up to 28 days away)
i bought it and downloaded it from the Xara3d website with the box and back up CD to follow..
Ankor, Thats Fantastic! i didn't realise that it could look as good as that....
all i got to do now is figure this whole thing out...

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
you can download a trial version of xtreme from the site that sledger has linked above - and use that instead of webster meantime [webster is actually a slimmed down version of xtreme]

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
Right, ive sort of got this...
However, no matter how good i seem to make the trace in Xtreme, as soon as i put the texture onto it, it doesn't fit???? there are big white patches, as you see (i have hopefully attached it..
Also now how do i put this onto my original logo background to create the look like ankhor has???

Well, I used the shape you used to import in x3d also to intersect the face with helmet and made the surrounding area the same blue with blue square in the background.

Well you can use texture also in background, so the helmet/face is text and I made the background the other part like you see in the mini-tut.
Resized the head in x3d and placed it in the right spot with the [ALT] key pressed, resized the background a couple of times to fit it just right in the background (in xtreme the resizing) also gave it a smal white border so the tiling wouldn`t be visible.

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
will it bother that im working with Jpeg images rather than bitmap?
and im still having major problems making the texture of the text(head image in this case) fit the head correctly, im getting big white areas or mis fit of picture??? how can i correct this???

I showed you, cut out the helmet and face and place a blue square behind it.
So don`t use the whole picture jpeg (which is a bitmap btw, so no problems.
there ;) )

yeah I didn`t it all at once.
You have to resize the bitmap in Xtreme(or another program of choice)
That is a bit trial and error. also you can make a bit wider by putting a bigger white square in the background.

You've made huge strides and I hope you've found the experience rewarding. What you're creating is now your work and you're understanding how it's created, not just something someones created for you.
Members on this Forum will willingly assist you all the way in helping you master the program and get satisfaction from doing so. It's far more rewarding than just creating a spinning logo for you.
Please keep your questions coming!

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
you may have the transparent option ticked in the export dialog box
separate issue: also it looks like you have shadow enabled in the program - if so, it might look better generally with that unticked?
Well done! :)

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
Very well done, you saved face here.
And now you never have to ask again, you can do it yourself.
Give a man a fish and he has one meal, give him a fishingrod and he
can eat every day. ;)
And here a small tut if you want to resize the gif in Xtreme

Very well done VCL - I'm very glad you persevered.

Re: Help, more advanced users needed!
Yes, very well done. Welcome to a very small elite group who have come to TalkGraphics asking for a spinning logo who have made what they wanted themselves. Makes us all feel it's worth the effort too!
Saludos,
Bob.
