Is there a patch to stop this? I'm running Vista, and every time i save the menu i create, the APP Crashes and it don't save. The program is a legitimate copy. It's not pirated. I ordered it almost a year ago from Xara.com. I'm gettin very ticked.

Hi Jeremy,
When you installed Menu Maker on your Vista system did you run the installer as Administrator?
Vista's security is very different than any previous version of Windows. Even though you are an Administrator on your computer you must specify run as administrator when installing some applications. If you do not the User Account Control (UAC) will prevent some or all required updates to the registry that a program needs to function correctly.
Personally I disable the UAC on all my Vista computers. It is the source of most if not all complaints about Vista.
Yes i did install it as administrator. .and i did have UAC disabled when i installed it. But it's still doing it.
Could you zip the project folder for the menu that is causing the crash and attach it to a post on the forum?
I do not recall anyone reporting this problem before. It would help to determine the cause of the crash if I could examine your project.
If you are using Windows XP or Vista you can use Windows Explorer to zip the folder. Find the folder in the left pane (tree view) of Windows Explorer. Right click the folder and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder.
This will create a zipped copy of the project folder.
ok that was easy. . . now, what folder do you want? the one with all my saved graphics?
When you create a menu one of the steps asks you for a project name. Menu Maker creates a folder using that name. That is the folder that will help me investigate the cause of the crash.
Hope i did that right.
Yes the zip file is good.
I have opened the project and saved the menu on one of my Vista machines. No crash occurred. I repeated the open and save several times and cannot get it to crash.
The system I used is Vista Home Premium running on a 900MHz AMD processor with 768MB of RAM. An 8 year old machine but if programs work on that system they should work on any newer system. :)
I would suggest making a backup copy of your Menu Maker project folders then doing a complete uninstall of the program then re-install.
That will ensure that any possibly corrupt program file is removed and the re-install should correct the cause of the crash.
I did that. it still dont work. i even deleted all the registries. . . I have Windows Vista Basic (brand new Compaq Presario Laptop). It's got 2 GB of RAM, and 120GB hard-drive.
Intel Celeron CPU 530 @ 1.73GHz
i still dunno what the problem is.
Do you get any error message when the crash happens?
Here's a screenshot of the crash i get

Have you tried turning off Data Execution Protection (DEP) for Menu Maker?
The exception code 'c0000005' indicates there is either a driver conflict (not likely in this case) or access is being restricted. This can be caused by DEP preventing Menu Maker from accessing the folder.
how do i turn off DEP for Menu Maker?
It will probably be easier for me to direct you to the Vista help for the steps to do that.
Click the Vista icon (where start button was on older versions of windows). Click on Help and Support. Type in DEP and hit enter key. Click the second result: "2 Change Data Execution Prevention settings"
JM, have a look here for help with Vista DEP.Quote:

Change Data Execution Prevention settings
Nope. didn't work! This sucks too, cuz i really need this program! I'm gettin irritated! I run a gaming league on yahoo/myleague.com and i'm needing to create a menu for a list of games we play and noone in my league knowns html. . LOL
Did you reboot your computer after making the change?
It should not be necessary but when it comes to Microsoft should not does not always mean not.
JM your irritation is totally ignored by software and computer hardware ;)
I've looked through your previous posts and see that you've had no end of trouble with MM and your PCs. From what I read you have done factory re installs and even bought a new computer due to a crash (??) yet still have many issues.
One thing I note is that you appear to play around with the registry a bit when you start having problems.
While you sound like a very keen enthusiastic user, you don't come across as an experienced user.
Unless you are fully aware of what you are doing in the registry, I'd leave it alone entirely as the problems you are having may well be self-inflicted.
One other thing to try is to run MM in WindowsXP compatibility mode.
(..and yes, reboot your PC after making any changes to OS configs)
Hey Sledger. . I am an experienced user. Just a few things i don't know about. And i do know about the registry. I only delete registry entries after i uninstall the corresponding program. I don't mess with it unless i have to. LOL. . Registry is a computers brain! Without it, it don't function. LMAO. . . . But yeah, i've heard if you uninstall the program, delete the program folder, then go delete the registry entry, it should work. . .i'll try the XP Mode thing.
Running it in Windows XP Compatibility Mode don't help either. App still crashes! So, i'm gonna forget it and uninstall it, and pack up the CD to get it outta my way. . Pay for a program that don't work
JM the software works on thousands of PC's. Your PC has something going on which is causing this problem for you.
