Another drawing another wireframe
This is a portrait of bill (short for bilious green) an eleven year old Iguana that was a nasty shade of green when we had him eleven years ago at about six inches long. He is now pretty old for an iguana and just short of six foot in length and roams pretty much where he wants around the house and garden in the warmer months, which due to global warming seem to be rarer and rarer recently.
He's drawn from life with reference to various photographs for details when he's not available for a sitting due to tree climbing duties ect.
Its one of those drawings that is never finished as you can go on drawing scales and various details for the rest of your life so I called an end to it to get on with other stuff that might actually earn me some money, but I might come back and add more at a later date.
The iguana is all vector except for a little Mehdi Natural Grain for skin texture, which had to be done that way or by using a gravel or similar bitmap as I couldn't produce an irregular fractle texture to fit the purpose, while what he's standing on has bitmap marble texture fills for the tiling.

You have a very distinctive style, Derek.
This one is up there with your very best
on the forum, including "Grass" that
you posted recently. It is difficult to know
when to stop, or to continue and risk
over-egging the pudding.
Lovely job!
Saludos,
Bob.
Re: Another drawing another wireframe
Excellent piece of work Derek. Lots of detail in that skin.
Re: Another drawing another wireframe
Its a very nice Iguana Derek
Re: Another drawing another wireframe
Overall it's a very nice image. The textures on it are great which you don't normally see in vector graphics, at least not to this extent.
Below and to the right of his eye the scales change shape to show the actual form changing which is good. The texture fill(s) however don't wrap around the actual form of the iguana which makes the skin look horizontal in some parts (the flab of skin under his head for example where you can really see the fractal/plasma fill)
And the perspective of the table/floor looks a bit Escher-ish.
Are those big rectangles in the wireframe clipviews to make it more manageable? Looks like allot of shapes to keep track off in this drawing.
Overall it's an impressive piece of vector work. And like iamtheblues said you do have a distinctive style  .

The rectangles bound irregular, freely drawn shapes that have a generally flat fill applied and then a little Mehdi Natural grain applied to them to give the skin texture which is then made largely transparent with an elliptical transparency and feathered before being used to overlay existing areas. I tend not to use clip view for the simple reason I never remember its there to use. The Iguana has a little under a 1000 objects in it on only two layers, three if you count the checker background. Because I work quite freely and quickly layers are something else I tend to overlook when working on something like this. Working quickly accounts for fills that often protrude beyond the edges of the drawing like paint bleeding across pencil marks sometimes.
As you say some of the scales need adjusting to help define the form but that’s a tidying up process which will have to wait as will the addition of some further detail if I can get round to it.

Okidokie, thanks for explaining.

This doesn't look like an easy drawing to decide what should go on what layer if you are going to put layers to good use.
It's all somehow connected to each other. Except the background off course.

It looks even more frightening with all the fill arrows showing. Excellent as always Derek.
Re: Another drawing another wireframe
Thanks for Bill's portrait and the insight Derek :)

Always nice seeing your work. Always good. I like your muted tones which is becoming your style.
Quality all the way.
