HAPPY NEW YEAR
These are a couple of icons I'm working on for a program I'm writing. They are much larger than what will actually be in the program.
Finally I'm doing something with Xara when a "Stop and Post" came along. Just simple faces with a few duplicated lines.
Hi Guess what?
Yep I've been at the scrapbooking again. This is my baby grandson's first christmas.

Bill,
Nice icons ... I didn't know you did programming?
Tim,
More great faces ... you should try the same technique on their bodies.
Carol,
I guess we both have new grandbabies this year! Cute grandson!
Just relaxation from moving house. It's great to be back with Xara!

I have been reworking a previous graphic/patch from work because the company name has changed. I can't show the company logo because it's combination with the rest of the graphic hasn't been approved yet. I did some neat stuff with photos this last month for our newsletter but they are all too big to show here.

Happy 2005 Everyone. Have some cake.
Penny,
It's great to have you back with us ... the donkey/horse and rooster have a Spanish/Mexican feel ... like a pinata?
Dale,
You work too hard my man ... you need to take some time off just to play ... nice looking patch.
dduran,
Please post again when you get farther along ... looks promising http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

EDITED BY THE AUTHOR:
Bruce,
You snuck that one in on me while I was typing ... nice cake (and baker) ... Happy New Year to you as well.
Thanks Ed.
I always enjoyed these stop and post threads. Great to see everyones work.
You're welcome Bruce,
I'm doing my best to carry on the tradition ... although the participation isn't what it used to be. Perhaps everyone is still busy from the holidays.
BTW ... no one commented on my opening graphic http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I spent a lot of time on that thing (probably TOO much ... as usual http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) ... at least someone could tell me it sucks ... or something http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
That's a beautiful opening graphic OklaEd, I love the transparencies on that empty glass bottle...
I'm new to the forums, but I have been using Xara (since it's CorelXara days), it's good to see quite a few people using the best vector illustration program ever made.
Here are some of my latest work.

I have more of my work at my WEBSITE
Thanks!
Some droopy tulips I'm working on at present
Vectorsedge,
Your images are quite incredible. The image of the man is simply unbeliveable. Looking forward to seeing more of your posts. I'm off to check out your website.
Wow vectorsedge,
I love the effect on the ghostie on your first picture, stunning! In fact I love all your pieces you showed, and the mans face is just fantastic. Keep posting!!!!!
Tried to check your website but I'm getting the following error message http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gifhttp://www.x-calibredesigns.co.uk/pirc/error.jpg

P.S. Thanks everyone for the comments on my grandson. I'm afraid I couldn't tell you if he smells of new baby though as I don't have a sense of smellhttp://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
Hello Carol,
Thanks for the heads up on my website. I think my Javascript is buggy. Rather - my scripting skills are buggy. It must be the image preloading script that's not working. I will have to re-assess how I want to display the images from now on... I'll probably redo the whole site in flash.
Nothing can beat the ease of use and the beauty of transparency effects in XaraX! I thought I would put it to the test by doing the Halloween thing.
That's a beautiful scrapbook of your grandson! It almost looks as if it's a cover for a calendar.
Thanks again!
Jared
Hey Z,
Thanks for visiting my website!
It's still under construction, so any input you can give me about the site would be very helpful.
Thanks!
Hi, thought I would teleport in and post one of my latest pics. Credits for this pic also go to 1) Access for his great programs that work with Xara and 2) Rich of Boulder Creek for his untiring contributions to the forum. Without those two this pic would not be possible. The background for this one comes from one of Rich's posts (mussell.jpg) Thanks !
Happy New Year Everybody !!!
Excellent drawings guys (even your lead post Ed). Haven't had time to draw anything other than doodles here for the forum. Programming and holidays took most of my time. Okay here is the latest doodle... Playing a bit with my DVD stuff, and needed a nice clean grinch... So...
oh how weird. my 4-year-old just requested if we could watch the Grinch animated video from the library.
you are psychic, sir. and that is one fine grinch.
now, is this the grinch with his heart 2 sizes too small, or the post-christmas 1 size larger than normal?
Jared,
Welcome to Talkgraphics and welcome to your first (hopefully not last) Stop and Post! ... some amazing work ... especially on your website. You are quite talented!
Derek,
Your "droopy tulips" is one of the best things I have seen you do ... very cool http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
Sunland,
Nice to see some of Rich's hard work put to good use http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif ... I like http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
John,
I don't think I've ever seen a better self-portrait http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Ed, it was a very bad oversight that I didn't comment on your lead post. The green glass, shadow and lighting are great!
Most of my programing these days is writing network administration utility programs. Administrators appreciate anything that makes their job easier, so they can get that 20 hour day done in 10 or less. Writing for paying clients was too much of a pain. "Well, we really wanted this..." or "can you add blah, blah, blah, without charging us for your time."
Great work by everyone.
Jared, welcome to the forum. I enjoyed seeing the images on your site. The gray scale image of Hedy Lamarr is very impressive.
A quick simple vector messing around with different techniques...
making some new wallpaper for my desktop
"now, is this the grinch with his heart 2 sizes too small, or the post-christmas 1 size larger than normal?" - Jared
2 sizes too small of course, He is just a who afterwards... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
"I don't think I've ever seen a better self-portrait" - Mr Ed
I was toying with the idea of changing my avatar, but I do not think I could capture the same feel.... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
A couple of images I worked on in 2001 when I discovered the "feathering" tool in Xara. It takes one step to do real-time feathering in Xara as opposed to Illustrator's 3 steps!

Droopy tulip update.
They are for the back of a menu believe it or not but still require a little work as I'm not happy with the glass or relections that will be on the 'table top surface'.
I love the little alien in your first image vetorsedge, it's the friendliest thing I'd run away from that I've seen in ages.

In my opinion you could improve your wallpaper image by making the horizon bend behind (through) the sphere as in lens distortion, the clouds as well but that would be trickier.
just a thought.

hows this? i didnt even think about that till you brought it up thanks!

Better; I was assuming that you had meant it to be a glass sphere of course, you might have meant it to be a circle on a photograph.
What it needs now is a subtle shadow underneath on the ground and a highlight or two on the sphere itself to emphasise the spherical shape.
Here's an elderly example of my own.

was that all done in xara?? that is a wonderful image
Yes all Xara. The waves and spashes photograph is choped up and manipulated a little, but only in Xara.
it was done as a development of this image which was a vague copy of a demo image from one of the xara cd's., but I think we are getting away from the stop and post theme as this was done a couple of years ago.
However to justify it, you can see the distortion of the chess board through the sphere on this image, as well as a reflection of it on the surface, which is what I was talking about in the first place.

Lots of really nice work!! Mine’s a bit boring in comparison, an animated piece that I’ve been working on. A piston pump (8 frames). I may need to add some additional frame etc once I see how/if it works on a web page..
Steve
http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/confused.gif Funny – it look fine in Xara but the connecting rod is a bit jittery now. Short of adding additional frames does anyone have any ideas..?
Steve
Just started this today, got really sad, figured I would draw, doddled it with my wacom... then traced it... Still working on it... figured I would share it with you all, its for my g/f.
