Creating an eBay ready web page
I'm on day 2 of my free trial. I'm so blown away it's incredible.
I've even recruited some non-web/computer/technical folk at work here to feign excitement because it's that good.
Before yesterday revolutionized my thinking, I was using deamweaver and Trellian Web Page to let my managers upload cars to eBay using another website as a storage area for the pictures with all the links spelled out.
Example: http://images.autouplinkusa.com/v/76...6KJ1239201.jpg
Is there a way to have the full links the same way without editing the HTML in Xara?
Thanks,
Bobby Harris

Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
You should be able to add any link to any object in xtreme. If you select the object and then Ctrl,Shift, W you can add a link .
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Hi Bruce,
Links alone are not the issue.
If you have the line <img src="wernertest2.htm_files/0.png" border="0" alt="" style="left: 0px; top: 0px; width: 801px; height: 595px; position: absolute;"/>
It's a lot different from <img src="http://www.carcreditnh.com/wernertest2.htm_files/0.png" border="0" alt="" style="left: 0px; top: 0px; width: 801px; height: 595px; position: absolute;"/>
I need to reference another site for the images on the HTML description
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
I see what you mean. I have not tried that in the html export. I will have to try it and see if I can figure anything out.
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
If you are just linking to another image that is on another site then just give the link to the image and use the New Window command.
For example http://www.graphics.com/modules/Gall...lbum09/aag.jpg this link goes to a specific image on another website.
Using the New Window command opens a window with that image but does not take the visitor away from your page.
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Ummm Gary... That is just a popup which is blocked by most modern browsers by default. (Not a good idea to suggest those). :)
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Tomorrow I'm going to try inserting an iframe into the HTML description on eBay.
This way I can have the entire page show without special links.
I'll let you know how it works with eBay tomorrow.

Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Well the iFrame doesn't work.
eBay doesn't allow the javascript term IFRAME into their descriptions.
Now I need to figure a way to alter the code generated by xara to point to the right domain from within the description
-Oh well
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
dogbertbh - did you have any luck with this?
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
I had no luck with this, actually.
There's something about how Xara sets up the web page to start at the absolute top of the page.
I recently tried doing something an HTML based email for a non-ebay application and when I sent it to someone using browser-based email (gmail, comcast, etc.) it didn't work. People using Outlook Express saw exactly what I expected.

I don't think TARGET=_blank is regarded as a pop-up John.

Create a placeholder image the same dimensions as your remote hotlinked image and using the name button give it a unique name.
Save your HTML.
Open the .htm file in notepad and find the unique name (ctrl+F), change the <img src="*"
EG:
<a name="EXTERNAL IMAGE" ><img src="index.htm_files/0.png" border="0" alt="" style="left: 29px; top: 53px; width: 551px; height: 91px; position: absolute;"/></a>
change to
<a name="EXTERNAL IMAGE" ><img src="http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/misc/vbulletin3_logo_white.gif" border="0" alt="" style="left: 29px; top: 53px; width: 551px; height: 91px; position: absolute;"/></a>
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
To insert external image you have to create a placeholder object (with correct size and positioning). Then add a name to it:
img="http://www.myimages.com/image.jpg"
That's it. Entered link will be used in the exported html.
You may need to update your html filter in order to make it work. If so, download it form this message: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showpost...30&postcount=9
Hope it helps.
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
I have had some success with:-
* stripping out all the header info and leaving just the content within the <body> section
* uploading all my images to my own server and changing all image paths to my server address instead
* changing the first instance of position:absolute; (in the first <div> straight after where the <body> declaration) to position:relative
* inserting the above html into an ebay listing
See my ebay listing:-
[sorry, no links to eBay auctions/shops, please] that I created with this method.
I have built this facility into my XXFX application, I will release a new version very soon.
The main thing is that any javascript will not work as it is referenced in the <head> (header) section from the html. Obvioustly with an ebay listing you are already in the body section. I am not sure what javascript can be declared in the html body area and also what ebay will allow in any case. Perhaps some expert here will enlighten me on this?
also anything such as a background declared within the <body> tag will also be lost.
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Sculptex: It looks great. I'll print your email, follow your steps (I believe the IMPORTANT info was position:relative) and post my result.
I'm actually planning to do some eBay listing today, so this works out.
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Covoxer,
I'm having an issue FINDING the htmlfiler.dll file. Where should i look for it? I did a search and came up with nothing.
I even did a DOS search using /s but didn't see anything at all.
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
D:\Program Files\Xara\Xara Xtreme Pro 4\Filters
I found this file , HTMLfilter.dll in the above folder.

I copied the filename from this explanation and "htmlfilter.dll" was misspelled.
Thanks again - trying it now.
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Just a quick note about the htmlfilter.dll change.
I used it and it worked fine. Then I created a new document and it didn't work at all.
I spent the last 2-3 hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong until I realized that I had rebooted in the meantime.
I re-extracted the files and it worked again!
YAY!
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Starting to feel like I'm talking to myself... consecutive posts.
It seems as if the filter works once per open document.
I've had to reload it each time I need to export my HTML otherwise it shows images as PNG's with names of img="http...../etc."
Re: Creating an eBay ready web page
Go to your Xtreme program filters folder and kill the old HTMLfilter.dll by naming it htmlfilter-dll.OLD
Copy Covoxers latest update of the HTMLfilter.dll
Restart the computer - restart Xtreme.
Nothing should prevent the new HTMLfilter.dll being used now.

I don't fully understand what you are saying there?
Using Johns method works fine for me:

img="http://www.myimages.com/image.jpg"
That's it. Entered link will be used in the exported html.
