I opened my mouth to soon...now I'm having the same problem in wx2000pro.
Surely someone in here can help us.
Thanks,

Re: c++ visual runtime error
My runtime in 2000pro says this:
Program: c:\Program Files\xara\Menu Maker\menumaker.exe
abnormal program termination.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
that's exactly my problem. I went so far as to save all my files and reinstall windows. Menu maker worked at first but as I installed more software it went back to the runtime error. Do you have Norton of any kind? I'm wondering if it's my problem
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
I've been getting the same thing for three days now............I don't use norton. I use vista ,office 2003xp, and avast32 virus scanner........I get the feeling a windows update screwed it up but i removed any new updates and its the same.......i started after a win update though

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Well, the tech support at Xara sent me a message and told me to make sure I was the administrator of all my systems. Just to be on the safe side I've put in a call to my computer guru to contact me and see what he tells me.
I'll post once we try that fix and let you know what happens.
I'm not on a network of any kind.
This morning when I came in here after breakfast it worked for about 5 minutes on 2000pro but not on XP.. so go figure..lol
Please let us know if someone can figure this deal out.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
My computer guru just left and he says I am the admin of all my systems. He played around some with the program and it actually worked again for about 5 minutes. He seems to think it could be a program problem so I'm going to contact Xara again and ask them to anity up again on a solution.
We uninstalled it on the computer with XP and reinstalled it...same runtime error on start up.
The computer with 98 just keeps on rocking and so far no problem on that system.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
on vista i had to turn off all user account controls to install the program and now a month later i get this...........all controls are off so it is running under the administrator.....i still think a windows update screwed it up. funny how this happened to us all at the same time, thats what makes me think of the update.....xara needs a patch for this i bet......
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
When I answered Xara's fix question today and told then that wasn't the problem I also told them maybe they needed to check this forum because other people were having the same problem with no fix from anyone.
I wonder how long they'll take to answer this time.I agree on the patch thingy and in the past I've read where other people had this problem but since I wasn't having a problem at the time I didn't read any further on it.
If and when I hear back from them I'll certainly pass it on to everyone else.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
I suddenly start to have this error also! Waiting for a solution.
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
When i first got my installation CD, i did install it, and had no problem whatsoever. Well, my computer crashed the other day, and i had to do a full factory default re-install. Now when i install and try to run, i get the "Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error". . what the heck is going on here?
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
I've not heard back from xara tech support again and probably won't until Monday or if and when they can find a fix for it. What's puzzling me is why it works in wx98 and not XP and 2000-pro. I've done no upgrades except last week java did an update on my machine with XP while I was working on another in 2000pro and I didn't notice it until it was done.
My sites are my business sites and if I can't get a fix for it soon then I'm going to dump MM never to return to it and throw the disk in the creek behind my home...well, I better not do that or the trout may get a runtime error and not bite anymore...I'll throw in in the fireplace and let it burn.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Does this make sense to anyone? I had a friend send it to me.
http://www.my-tutorialz.com/how-to-f...-explorer.htm/
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
It would make sense if it was loaded in my add-ons, but it's not. it's never been there. . I'm also still waiting on a response from Xara.
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
It's not in my add ons either...I'm not a guru at codes or scripts and don't have the time to learn. I do ok in all the Adobe, Corel FP & DW and Autocad programs and have to depend on programs like MM to get me through.
This is not the first time I've had problems with MM. When I get replies back from their tech support it usually amounts to only a few words of explanation which never has worked on the first try...the last time I had a problem it took a couple of weeks. I can't let it go that long this time.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Set up an account because I was having the same problem.
Downloaded and ran Regclean http://www.majorgeeks.com/download458.html now MM1 works.
Hopes this helps.
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
before anyone does that read this
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;299958
this is linked on the majorgeeks site but thought I'd draw attention to it
regclean is not supported in XP and win 2000 any more - it may cause problems - there are good reasons for it being withdrawn by MS
while I am here - the runtime error may be caused by office XP updates or encryption
also worth clearing out all temp files
not saying that will fix it mind
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
I downloaded regclean one time and let it do a scan on my 2000pro machine. It told me I had 1400 problems, so I called my tech and he came and checked it out. He had a good laugh when he saw it and did a through clean of about a dozen things not 1400.
Before I would let regclean fix everything I did read the reports on it and didn't let it do anymore. Since then I've removed it from my computer.
I've done no updates on any of my software including Office 2000 and Office 2003.
I had been working with MM1 for a year without any problems and the runtime error hit me first on my 2000pro (my business sites sits on this computer) so I checked it on the XP machine and had the same problem, I then went to my good ole 6 year old HP with 98 and MM1 just keeps on working in it.
It seems strange that all of a sudden a lot of people are having this problem and all having different and doing different things with their computers.
I read in other places on the net that more people are searching for the same answers we are.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
May I ask what all that means?
I've not heard back from MM. I do read in several places where their CS is pretty much on the shady side but they may be trying to figure out the problem also.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Tuller,
I don't know what it all means but it is information that may help Xara Ltd isolate the problem and determine a fix.
Currently all the Xara staff are very busy working on the new release of Xara Xtreme, so I would not hold my breath for a fix anytime soon.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Thanks for your reply. I've been using Jeremy's fix and it's working but it sure is wearing me out plugging and unplugging and then plugging in again.:D
CS is one the most important parts of a business. We've been in business 62 years and CS has been a major priority all those years.
If we were in the build on a $100,000.00 project and a customer called with a $.25 problem I would get someone to get her problem solved as soon as possible. I don't won't any unhappy customers.
I was talking to a friend today that's having the same problem we are. She told me she was getting ready to buy more xara products but forget it now she was going with the other company. I feel the same way and this is my last xara product because of their CS.
You're good...I wish I had 1% of your computer knowledge stored away in my weak ole brain.
I read the screen shots you put up and it looks like my adopted daughter from Russia sounds like when she's unhappy about something and is speaking in her native language. :D
I'm learning a lot of "stuffs" by just reading in this forum...glad I found it.
She's enjoying it also.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
don't use MM so I'm not sure if this will help - re Jeremy's fix - does it work if you block MM from internet access in firewall rather than disabling the internet connection?

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Hello
I am also the same problem, and i dont know what to do. I ha ve writed to xara, but have no answer for now. I do not know for you, but me i cannot use the program at all. Because it close when I click ok.
If you have an answer i would like to know

Re: c++ visual runtime error
What you do is close out Xara Menu Maker. Then disconnect the internet. Wait til it disconnects completely. Then start the program again. It should work. Right now, thats the only way it's gonna work.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Thank you Jeremy. That band-aid did the trick for me as well!
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
Does anyone have more than a bandaid for this or has ANYONE heard back on a support ticket submitted to XARA? What happened is Widows did an automatic update, for those of us the trust Bill Gates enough to allow the auto updates, (sometimes I wonder and just bought my first MAC to get rid of Bill in my life).
Once the update went into effect, we all started having problems with the runtime error. XARA NEEDS TO SUPPORT THEIR CUSTOMERS! This is crap to leave us hanging and not even a response. I own several of their products but with this kind of customer service, I am reconsider every buying another one.
HELP!!!

Re: c++ visual runtime error
I just got a response from CS,
"We are investigating this issue and will contact you when we are able to provide more information."
We shall see.
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
since the problem appears to be 'caused' by a microsoft update, and not by xara, it may take a while to fix, as Bill said earlier on in the thread......
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
I haven't done an update for since November.
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
fair enough - so no one knows what it is - if indeed it is just one problem....:(
-
Re: c++ visual runtime error
Reviewing the information I posted previously the problem appears to be related to menumaker.exe is not getting the response it expects when connecting to the internet at startup.
Because the response it not correct the program terminates (shuts down). Vista reports this as shown in the attachment of my first post to this thread.
This may or may not be related to recent changes of servers and website at Xara.com
I do not use MenuMaker except to help troubleshoot problems reported here at TG. On March 12th MenuMaker was working correctly on my system. On April 6th the error happened on my system when I checked to see if there was any change from the last time I opened the program.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
thanks for the clarification Bill :)

Re: c++ visual runtime error
For those of you who don't think that they do updates, this may be an informative article. Admittedly it goes back six months now, but that doesn't mean that Micro$oft in it's INFINITE wisdom isn't pushing some other upgrades now.

Re: c++ visual runtime error
Another fix i've discovered
Disconnect internet, then start program, then reconnect internet while program still runnning. It'll work!
