Making a clock face in Photoshop
Hi could anyone give me a fools guide to creating a clock face in Photoshop elements please?
I'm wanting to make something like these, but to be honest I have no idea how to do it.

The best way to find out this sort of thing is to use google and you don't have to wait on replies. Have a look here; http://www.drquincy.com/resources/tu...p/analogclock/
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
Thank you, I had a look at google but didn't see much. But on the bright side I did find you! :)
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
Personally, I would recommend a vector app for this sort of thing. Not only much quicker, but the fine lines will not need antialiasing and will therefore print crisply. It really would be a breeze in CorelDRAW, or Xara. The Xara trial is a small download and there are many here who are knowledgable with it, so it may be worth considering if print output is your final destination.

Thank you, yes the printout is important. I'm just downloading the Xara trial now. If I can't workout how to use it I will ask.
Edit: Xara doesn't seem to work on vista.
Edit: I have paintshop too might it be easier in that?

John the attachment is the result of about 20 minutes using Xara Xtreme, a vector drawing program. In Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro it would have taken me 3 to 4 times longer to make the image. It is a rough draft rather than a finished drawing, but should give you an idea of the capabilities of a vector application.
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
Thats fantastic! I'm going to download the trial to my old XP computer and see what I can do.
What I'm wanting it for is I have a old car and it has the wrong clocks in, so I thought I'd have a go and printing some faces more like the original ones and laminating them.
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
I've got Xara working and looked at this thread http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...ght=clock+face but if that's easy I must be thick. I've only got as far as making the layers, and got stuck.
All I need are the sections marking the numbers and the colour shouldn't be a problem, its just the 5" face.
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
John there are always many ways to create a subject using Xara Xtreme. Perhaps another tutorial may help http://www.xaraxone.com/tutorials/apr05/1.html
For your instrument panel you will not need the 3D instructions near the end of that tutorial.
Gary Priester has over 10 years of tutorials and workbooks at his XaraXone website.
Workbooks 30 and 31 are a new users guide for Xara Xtreme http://www.xaraxone.com/html/workbook.html

Try looking at this http://www.xaraxone.com/tutorials/nov04/1.html XaraXone tutorial for inspiration. It sounds like it (parts of it anyway) may be just what you need.
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
Thanks again, I'll take a look when my internet stops playing up, I'm getting timed-out all the time at the moment.

I'm working on it, but I'm very slow.
If I copy your attachment would it give me a head start or wouldn't it work?

John here is the .xar file. I changed the text to shapes in case you do not have the fonts that I used.
You should be able to get an idea of how it was made. You will also need to make your own marks around the dial as those I made are not to scale or positioned correctly.
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
I've just about got a acceptable speedo(I might make the numbers a bit bigger) god knows how I did it.
Now for the rev-counter
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
Thank you for your help everyone, this is what I ended up with.
Not perfect, I couldn't get the font right, but it will do for the time being.

Is that a real analog clock on the rev counter?

It is yes.
I cheated with that too the original one didn't work so I took a watch apart and fitted it behind the face. :)
Re: Making a clock face in Photoshop
nothing wrong with a bit of 'cheating' as long as its creative :)
