Hi All,
I was participating in the latest challenges and they were great to test myself.
Thought to create a new one for the Daily Dose theme
So here it is:(and please only post the picture, like in the previous 2 challenges)

Hey,
No one??
Hans are we to use only a circle and square or are we to use specifically the size and colour of the two shapes you have in your post?
A little more detail about what can and cannot be used would help.
Hi Bill,
Sorry for the lack off more specs,
-the two shapes can be scaled/resized
-they must remain the same color
Hans
Hans, thanks for the additional details :)
Nice one Bill
Hans
Hi Bill,
Did you find it to difficult?
Or is this not too challenging enough?
Hans
Thanks Hans.
I did have to think a bit before getting the image the way I wanted.
I thought more people would have submitted their images.
Sorry it took so long for me to reply, very busy watching the rugby world cup, three matches yesterday, four more today, plus I've got a couple of hard drives to back up and swap around between computers, which will mean formatting and installing a couple of operating systems. Should keep me out of mischief for a while.
Took me a while to figure your challenge out, too!
Saludos,
Bob.
Hi,
Nice one too,Bob
Hans
Thanks, Hans,
I'm rather mystified by the lack of response to your thread, and Egg's challenge as well.
These are good challenges that should be provoking more attempts, especially from the Xara newbies out there.
Perhaps there shoud be a forum for Xara Newbies with challenges such as this, I think it would reduce the number of threads asking for help on the very basic questions, which can easily be solved within Xara's help files and Gary's Webxealot.
There is a good deal of apparent laziness in some of the postings here, from people who:
a) cannot be bothered to find out certain fundamental solutions for themselves, and
b) fail to respond to the generous responses with even a "thankyou" in return.
Solo mi cinco centimos.
Saludos,
Bob.
Hi Bob,
That's indeed the main point,to teach anyone some tricks how to do things
and forcing yourself to learn a thing or two.
Rather this then answering same questions over and over again.
On other fora i attend,i rarely ask a question but post if i feel i was mastering some stuff
This i do by using the search box and when i find a person who answers
a lot of questions i search by his (nick)name to find those little gems they already came up with.
Though here on TG,there's no lack of guru's,as they are called on some fora,
and a lot of tutorials, thanks to Gary,Egg,Xhris and the all the others.
Hans
sorry guys - bit busy - here's mine
cheated a bit at the the end, by tweaking shape slightly - 'cos I likes to be different ;)
'iamtheblues' seems to be wrong since his image doesn't include the water reflection.
Since 'handrawn' has decided to break the rules by 'tweaking shape slightly' it is impossible to know whether he succeeded or not.
I myself failed. I managed the reflection but failed to reproduce the crisp waters edge. I imagine that it has something to do with the 'bevel'.
Nice one 'haakoo'.
...:p :D
perhaps closer to the original - is it just me, or is it normal to get the line artifact?
Ankhor it may not meet the challenge rules, but I think it is excellent. Looks metallic.
Hi,
Seems it was a bit to think about.
Hope you all found the easy way to achieve this(it's only a few clicks)
Ankhor, you did stray of the challenge but what a great contribution
You might elaborate on how you got to this?
Hans
sure,
I just add the xar file ;)
I'm getting bored with this challenge now Hakoo (because I can't do it).:D
I can only manage it by using a black box rather than your turquoise one.
I think you should tell us know.
Please!
Hi Salaam,
You're right should have done this earlier,so here it goes:
take the circle>make it way bigger
apply bevel with following settings;
flat, inwards till a small circle inside
contrast = 100%
light angle = 270
light elevation = 0
apply some feathering
put the rectangle behind the beveled circle
ctrl+a
apply clip view
done
(thanks Ankhor for the metallic look xar file)
Hans
Hey!! I want my money back!! :D
I did all that before and got the 3rd effect when I added the 'feather'.
After playing with your file, I got all 3 effects just by altering the size of the image.
I think there must be a bug somewhere?
