Cheers Bill for taking this thread over ~ I always forgot it as well!
Time does fly and a new month is upon me before I realise ;)
As I grow older the faster time flies.
To keep this "on topic" here is my most recent drawing. Made today for the 'Charles Noir' challenge
A picture of my vaca spot in Maine with an image fixed in using Xara LX for transparency. I call this "Lady of the Lake" Although I am quite upset she was not there when I was.....
Sorry Soquili, but I had to post this second rendition (hope it's o.k.) But I just added some solar glare to the pic using the Gimp. Which gives the effect that her image is being revealed by the setting sun..... I am curious, is it possible to get this "lens flare" effect using Xara LX??
A work in progress that I have put aside until
I get back the desire to finish it.
Anyone have any idea who this is?
Saludos,
Bob.
OK, Jamtheblues, defenitely a jazzmusician, could it possibly be Colman Hawkins?
Sven-Ingvar
Hi Sven-Ingvar,
As they say in the USA, "Close, but no cigar".
I see the resemblance, but I think that The Hawk had a moustache.
It's sort-of-jazz, but not truly jazz, more of close relation, but definitely a different genre.
Saludos,
Bob.
Geminiguy the sun glare can be done using Xara Xtreme. I haven't used XaraLX for a long time and no longer have a Linux machine so I don't recall if it supports circular transparency and feathering.
The attachment shows a very quick rendition of sun glare using three circles with feathering and circular transparencies.
The original photo is in the lower left corner for comparison.
It's the hat, isn't it?
No, I'm afraid not Ankhor, no 2Tone involved,
you are not as close as Sven-Ingvar,
who was in the right era.
It's more of a 1940-1950 thing, so your age
may work against you, but your interest in music
might be a help.
The drawing is from a photo on a vinyl album,
later released on cd in 1970 and later
as the title of a dvd movie about the great man.
The original release was released during the 1960s
and it put him in the Hall Of Fame, so he's not an
obscure artist.
Another clue is that he is linked by his songwriting
to The Rolling Stones and other famous bands from
the 1960s. I think that's enough to be getting on with. :)
Saludos,
Bob.
Thanks Bill. Here is a museum piece, not sure how it's going to turn out.
Been testing some effects:rolleyes:
Bob the face looks familiar but I cannot recall a name. I hope you find the inspiration to complete the drawing.
Norman I'm sure your drawing will turn out as well as all your images. I look forward to seeing the completed car.
Aridzone I like that effect you have created. It could be a Christmas scene or an old style game arcade (pinball anyone?) the way the 'lights' are flashing.
Dizzy Galespi?? That's the only name I know in jazz just taking a stab at it (prob spelled it wrong too)
Hi Geminiguy, wrong, I'm afraid.
It's not really a jazz musician, try another colour of music.
Here's a picture of Dizzy and his fish!
Saludos,
Bob.
Ok Bob, I'll make another try: How about Muddy Waters?
Sven-Ingvar
Hi,
Just a crack at the face;
does he play with "Lucille"
Hans
Hi Sven-Ingvar and Hans,
You are both in the right genre and period.
It's a bluesman, but it's neither Muddy Waters
nor BB King & Lucille the guitar.
He was a bluesman who sang, played an upright
bass, wrote many famous songs including
"Little Red Rooster", "I Ain't Superstitious" and
"Spoonful". He was also known as a record producer.
No more clues, someone's certain to know now...
Saludos,
Bob.
Ankhor, you got it!
I thought googling would play its part.
Well, I suppose I'd better try and get
the thing finished now that you've all
been involved.
Saludos,
Bob.
Man O man..... has I gots the blues...........
I'm working on a custom stereogram that requires a Neurone, as seen through an electron microscope, to be part of the background. I decided I would have better control if I created my own neurone.
Something for the next tutorial?
Gary
Yes, please!!Quote:
Something for the next tutorial?
I am sure I have one of them inside me Gary.
I remember seeing a lot of those things back in the 60's...LOL

Will
I am going to get an extra neuron for my brain. Well slap my thigh Gary could you do more than one cos I need them at the moment.
Put me on the list - got any that don't need sleep? :D
Great image Gary
The background is a deep blue and black Fractal Clouds fill. A low setting on Fractal Scale (3 in this case) softens the colors and makes the pattern larger. Higher numbers make the pattern smaller. Profile 4 increases the contrast between the two colors. And then there is a lot of fumbling around with the not so intuitive fill path arrows, which used to work better for some curious reason ;)
Gary
needed some 'flower' and 'wheel' patterns
all these were made from a 64point star quickshape, with applied effects
great fun this - only a very small selection here :)
I really like those, HandDrawn.... lotsa possablities with all of them!!!! (one of these days... I'm gonna learn how to spell.... really, really good)
Steve
I love the possibilities (:)) of the second to the last one. It looks very 3D.
Gary
nice nueron Gary... aLthough I gave up all mine for lent...
Nice quickshapes...:)
Yes, yes, yess !! (please ?)
I mean the Neurone for the next tutorial..:o
Thanks guys :)
The 'spike' shapes above is a simple blend of two
Here is another mix [not a blend] - also the xar for anyone interested - includes both
Awesome
:D
I'm doing this piece about someone who never sleeps [sci-fi] - and its causing me a lot of sleepless nights
so there is cosmic justice after all.......;)
Can someone please tell me where or how do I find this info bar mentioned below?
Select the object.
On the Transparency tool InfoBar click Profile. This opens the Profile dialog.
You either select a predefined profile from the drop-down list or drag the sliders to create a custom profile. The top option in the drop-down list (the straight line) creates a linear transition between the start and end of the transparency.
Here Norman
it is only active when you have a non-flat transparency option active
:)
