Are they going to send them via US mail in the United States or by a private carrier?
We're sending them as we always do to the US, which is small packets airmail direct from the UK. We can probably safely assume that masque is in the UK though. :)
It was quite an interesting event getting all the manuals and boxes in.
2.2 tons of manuals were delivered, along with the boxes. The truck wouldn't come up our drive for some reason, and the drivers only spoke Bulgarian so we didn't know why. So Kate phoned the shipping company and there was an ongoing translatation via the shipping company person. It turns out they thought the trees were too low for the truck to go under. They eventually gave it a go, and managed to get up. Turning around in front of the house was a worrying site; I expected Gaddesden Place to need a new wing again! Thankfully all was fine, and we just had to carry boxes of manuals from the truck to the offices. Everyone who was in that day got involved, it was a real company effort. :D Even a couple of cars were drafted in to get all the manuals in.
Then everyone got involved in making the boxes and putting in the CDs etc, and it's strange walking around from office to office and everyone is doing the same thing. Xtreme Pro boxes everywhere. (Kind of reminding me of the Star Trek: TNG episode where everyone has gotten into a game, and Wesley is walking around wondering what's going on... too geeky of me?)
Then Miro was messaging me like an expectant father wanting to know if his child had been born yet. :D
So when it drops on your doorstep just think of all it's been through. The parts have come from Austria and Bulgaria, built up by all the members of staff, posted, then it travels the world some more before dropping on your doorstep.
Mine arrived first post this am, the postman looked relieved to get rid of it. a weighty parcel (no pun intended)
Postman had the cheek to knock my door before 7.30 on the 2nd Feb so I am away to play.
My parcel arrived at 11:00 (Northumberland, UK).
Many thanks to the Xara crew, not only for the great software but also for the shipping teamwork.
Can someone who already got the CD to make one shot and show us
PLS
:)
Slightly bent box, CD's Manual and Manual Supplement (pro stuff).
Actually I got two supplement manuals in my box I don't know if that was a mistake, or if it was in there for padding or if I didn't get something else in error.
Derek
I think that this is by mistake.....
maybe steel box have a bit more chance to survive travel by posts.... damn it
Not the British Postal System. Its a matter of pride that they can bend and break anything, particularly if its marked delicate or do not bend; its like a red rag to a bull.
Miro/Charles:
Perhaps a "pre-folded" version of the box (as it comes from the printing presses) which is hand-signed by yourself AND Charles could be produced and then mailed in a flat, protected envelope.
it would be a nice souvenir/collectors item signifying the last box made from Xara UK (pre-Magix edition). I liked to have one to frame and hang on my wall here in my "computer room".
Proceeds could go to a worthy charity. With 1.2 million subscribers it could a source of a considerable contribution.
Don't throw away the box! Your serial number is on the box, not on the CD case as the installation program says. And you don't have a CD case anyway!
Otherwise all works well.
Haven't gotten mine yet, but just wondering if you guys are installing it over the downloaded one or uninstalling that one first.
Two CDs and two manuals all carefully packed in a crushed box.
I think it got crushed 'cos postie couldn't wait for me to open the door and insisted upon forcing it through the letter-box.
I opened the door as, with a final burst of energised exertion he succeeeded.
"I made it!" he said - with such a look of triumph on his face I hadn't the heart to remonstrate with him.
Gotta admire his determination ...
The crushing of the boxes is something we worried about. Switching to DVD packaging solved it, but with Pro we wanted to include the manual of course.
I normally do the product packaging and my choice was a box by Sony that was exactly to size, with no spare room inside, so there wouldn't have been much crush potential. But by going with boxes which have open ends and space inside it's likely to happen as soon as pressure is exerted on the sides.
That's no discredit to Miro's work, it's just I know the postal service can't be trusted.
From other side, absolutly exact size of space in box for 2manuals and 2 CDs can delay pack up
Its not problem when you have to packup one or five packages, but if you have to pack thousands?
By my calculations free space inside have to be somewhere about 5mm....
But now I think that no way to prevent some damage of cardboard box using postal system. They are dabsters :(
Cardboard package is designed to stay on shelf, she's strong and hard, but not inaf to resist on Posts careless :(
For me is a big disappointment to find out that this my try didnt have big success in contest with posts...
Now I can just be hopeful, that no all postal systems are dabsters
Nicely put :)
I didn't think that I had bought a manual because I thought Anthony posted at the launch that it would be the same as the main Xtreme one, but got one anyway so thanks for that. Looks good, but isn't the spine (like the shortcut card) printed upside down?
Thanks for that, I didn't notice that and almost lost it! Crazy! I'll race you to lose the CDs! :D
I installed mine over the last download and when I'd registered it a started for the first time I simply chose to use current rather than default settings. All I had to do was re-instate my default page size and preferred units of measurment etc. Simple and pain free as I like it.
Derek
Got mine today and installed it without problem.
What I really wanted to say was how brilliant the manuals are - written in good plain English, nicely laid out and informative without being wordy.
Good one AntonyF
Have been messing around with PDF import as it is so important to my work and I am finding it both predictable & reliable. In my current work for a book company i have been producing "custom shapes" in PS and symbols in AI to give flowing garlands which mutate into the background of book covers. Up until now my work does not want me to show these drawings on this site but since now it will ALL be produced with on XPro this may change, at least I hope so.
I would like to thank the team for producing this Import module which has given me an edge and the ability to work faster than I ever have done before which should mean more work for me.
Computer Arts also have the 30 day trial of XPro on its monthly disc stating "ramp up your work rate with this speedy drawing and illustration package"
Those of us in the colonies are SOOOO jealous!
Can't wait to get my own CD and manual...sigh...

Mine arrived Friday morning in the wilds of Lincolnshire... complete with a crushed box but the CD's safe and sound inside the manual.
Box aside, is there a .xar file of an Xtreme Pro standard DVD case insert out there with all of the nice, glitzy images on it, like the Xtreme box but with the Pro graphics. We could then just load it, insert our serial number and print it off. I'm liable to lose the CD in it's non-descript black DVD case.
I love my boxed CD's!
STOP IT at once, no more talk of the delivery of the XXP package till mine arrives. w00dy I know what you mean about boxed CD's though I prefer to keep mine in a dvd case and make a cover for that as you can then print out a card with imprtant info/quick reference on and keep it in the dvd case.
Wassup Doc! The post didn't get through? Sorry, couldn't resist that one... I ordered quite early on but I'm sure it won't be long.
You'd expect that the box was designed in house using Pro, it'd be heresy if it wasn't so all that needs to be done is to jiggle around with that design and hey presto... Xtreme Pro DVD insert in twenty minutes tops. C'mon guys, make it so!
The design is from minimiro - see also this thread and learn about another great package design from minimiro.
But I don't think, that someone is willing to deliver the original design as a .XAR file to you for free (excellent design costs a lot of time and money and not everything is free in our new golden online era...).
Regards,
Remi
believe it or no...
Beautiful job, minimiro. Well done. Thank you.
Ah yes, mine arrived in crushed box too. I think its actually a feature. Its really good to have manuals. I love having books. Its all good having PDFs as well but you really cant beat a proper manual that you can read away from your computers. I find it incredible that you can pay hundreds of pound for software by Macromedia or whoever and they cannot give you a book. So well done Xara for that.
Certainly some top drawer designs there, minimiro! Quality!
I got mine 20 minutes ago. The box is also crushed, but what can we do? Only if Xara's box was inside a sturdier postal box would it have survived.
No problem. It's already on my shelf :)
