Remember this one? :)
Any ideas for the interior of the cab? Reference pics, quick sketches, links...
Was the canopy glass-covered or open?
Reference pics from Google weren't very detailed and it was a long long time ago when I last saw the series.

Is that a car, a submarine or a spaceship? :)
He's obviously too young G'man :)
And I'm too old to remember the colours :(.
I'll ask my kids maybe it's on re-run!
Turan
GMan that is some good modeling. I can't remember the details or the series the car was in. I remember it was a Saturday morning cartoon where the characters were always racing.
Its Dick Dastardly and Mutley in the mean machine .the wacky racers
check out http://www.hotink.com/wacky/ for colour etc.
accompanying attachment may be subject to copyright if so I will remove it
haha, that's a snazzy vehicle... nice modeling, terrific likeness gman... (thumbs up)
thanx for posting the further info parahandy :)
Thanks Norman. I was going crazier trying to remember the name of the show and the characters. :)
Looking great, Gman! At first I thought it was the vehicle used in Journey to the Center of the Earth, to drill out tunnels. Then I thought it was something from Buck Rogers.
Yup, it's car 00, The Mean Machine. :D
There's also some paper cutout models at the Pepakura site:

And Norman's picture was the one I was using as reference, too. But as I said, the details for the car interior were not visible. I can't figure out if the seats were arranged side by side or one in front of the other. If side by side, is the steering wheel on the left or right? Also, is the canopy glass covered or open? Little details like these. Not really very important, but it would be nice to get things as authentic as possible.
My thought was the artist designing it was a Batman freak...:D
Decal and materials applied. Preliminary render with Blender's internal renderer. Had to incline the chasis a bit forward because the large tail end was touching the ground. Discovered this when I was adding a ground plane.
Hey Gman can you model Mutley? :)
Very cool, looks better than the cartoon version.
Looks dangerous to me.
The driver's vision is blocked.
Can you cut a hole in that thing so's the driver can see where s/he is going?
Gotta admit 'tis a good job you did.
My first thought upon seeing it was you were playing around with one of those cake-icing squirting things.
Muttley! You must be a mind reader, Availor. I was just pondering on how to go about modeling the characters....:D Will try that as soon as I find some free time.
Raymond, if you ever watched the series, you'll discover that the characters are virtually indestructible :D . Specially Dick and Muttley. :D
But you're right, I'm going to move the driver seat and steering wheel to one side. Left or right?
Thanks for the thumbs up. The entire group of racers feels like a good challenge. Anybody up to modeling and rendering the other cars?
Availor got me sidetracked into this one. :D . I was planning to take on the cars first, then the characters. Characters are definitely harder. This is going to be a looong project. Hope it doesn't get lost in the WIP folder. :D
Update.
COOL! Thanks dude you are awsome :D How long did it take you to create this model?
Very good Gman, you will certainly stop the Pidgeon now! Your car and Mutley are very good. And not a Christmas elf in sight!
go Gman go... :D
This is fantastic stuff... your modeling and texturing skills are coming alive here :)
keep it going man :D
It's amazing to see your progress with 3D, GMan.
Good work!
Remi
Great Stuff GMan. Real smooth.
Haha, thanks folks :D .
But this is far from over yet. 11 cars and a lot of characters. I think I'll be able to finish the group by the next century...
Sally, I think Pidgeon was on the other show, when Dick and Muttley were pilots. Two spinoffs were created from the series.
Norman's link for reference site:

Seems like somebody already did this:
http://3dtotal.com/home2/gallery/get...em.asp?id=1613
And better, too.
Ah well, there are the other cars....:D
GMan his is different but not better IMHO.
Gman, how about modeling the TalkGraphics forum?
Think of it as a character. That's a challange :)
Something like a mascot?!
That would be a good challenge, but something like this should involve the entire forum. 2D and 3D free for all. :D
Availor, I'm never going to finish this project if you keep coming up with bright ideas like these .... :D
:D
Availor, nothing to worry about. I'm always easily distracted. That's why I'm all over the forum...:D
Like Bob's comment to the Journey to the Center of the Earth. That prompted me to look up an old copy of the book I had stashed away somewhere :D . Nice reading it again. And yes, no reference to vehicles there. Must be something Hollywood film versions added later on. Well, going down there on foot is believable only on novels. Using pointed nose vehicles seems more plausible on film. But in real life, I don't think anyone can do it. :D
Oh boy, am I distracted now.... :D
The original movie (the best one) had no vehicle but one of the remakes did - a giant core drilling machine.
They're still running? :D
No, I'm not really a fanatic on the series, but I really think it's a nice group to practice modeling and rendering. Not too hard but not that simple, too. Just right for my level.
Another car, before the mods decide we're drifting too far off topic...:D
Not sure about the pink color. It doesn't look pink to me, but it's pretty tricky to get pink in 3D, since a lot of variables plays on the final color. Also some slight anomalies on the model. Gotta tweak those later on, maybe...
Gee, seem to be having a Wacky Racers 3-D Thread. Good going, Gman, you deserve a medal, don't let Mutley fight you for it.
:D
He won't. Not as long as he's in my 3D world.
Update on the Compact Pussycat. Prettier pink, plus bump maps for the hood and trunk. Only 512x512 textures so the bump maps are a bit jagged.
I think I'll tackle something easier next.
I cannot do 3d as in your beautiful rendering GMan I hope you don't mind if I
tried to emulate it with xpro difficult wee car to draw. I had to pinch your windscreen surround, as the others say why not put it into wacky racers.Or start another wacky racer thread?
Raymond, maybe you're right. I guess the slacker in me is acting up again :o . Yessir! no pain no gain.
Norman! THAT is a beautiful rendition (OK, some parts are have confused perspective, but for a quickie, it is very good indeed). Come to think of it, I have done vector renditions of cars from photos but never from 3D renders. Might be a good idea for future projects. Vectors are scalable, and you have much more creative control on the picture. Gotta post that note in my "ideas folder". :D
OK, maybe I'll post more finished versions in the Wacky Racers thread. Might also start a new thread for the other cars here in the 3D forum. Topics running too many pages makes hard reading. ;)
Just noticed that the Wacky Racers logo was missing on the door of car No. 5...
Nice design Gman, although I don't know what cartoon this comes from :)
